I'm all for Irish music, the more sentimental the better and it doesn't come much more schmaltzy than with Celtic Woman the gorgeous gals who have swept America since their successful PBS launch.
The formula is simple and higlhy successful. great looking girls, good musicians, classic Irish songs -- bingo.
Good for them, but now it appears there may be a messianic complex taking root. Consider what singer Alex Sharpe recently told a Boise, Idaho newspaper about the importance of the group and their act.
"Now with a new president in office in America, I think a lot of people there are very inspired and full of hope," she said in a recent phone interview. "I think the theme of the tour as well almost goes in harmony with the hope that America has with a new president, and it just touches on that with the show, with the hope that the Irish had coming to America, the hope for a better life. I think it kind of is very appropriate."
Lord save us -- what next? Celtic Woman as the antidote to all that has gone wrong in the world? Celtic Woman as the answer to all our woes?
No I don't' think people go to Celtic Woman shows thinking, 'hmm this reminds me of what this country needs and what Barack Obama has talked about.' I think people go to have a good time and forget about all that stuff
You are entertainers girls, and damn good ones. Leave the hope and inspiration business to the fellah in the White House.
