Andrew Cuomo is the best politician in America right now by a country mile

Andrew Cuomo is the best politician in America right now and he is looking more and more like a player for the White House in 2016.

His ability to get things done is truly shocking. New York state has been essentially gridlocked for over a decade with Republicans and Democrats disagreeing on just about everything.

Enter Cuomo and suddenly the Red Sea has parted.

He came into power after two of the worst governors in New York history, Eliot Spitzer who was forced to resign over a sex scandal and David Patterson who was useless and ineffectual.

Cuomo has blazed a trail however.

First he forced lawmakers to admit and publicize their private business interests, halting an never ending scandal where they could take in millions anonymously.

Then he slashed the budget, delivered it on time, faced down the public unions and passed gay marriage.

All in the space of less than six months.

His management of the gay marriage bill was incredible. He lined up libertarian conservatives to support it, pledged to help any lawmaker with his re-election who supported it and that was only the beginning.

He also warned the gay lobby to get their act together after previous failures and even maintained a relationship with the Catholic Church on the issue, explaining to them what he was doing.

His experience working as Chief of Staff for his father has obviously given him a huge insight into how state politics works.

Now that he is in charge he is electrifying state government. Surely 2016 must loom like a lighthouse to him just now.

His father became known as Hamlet on the Hudson for his indecisiveness about running.

His son will have no such qualms. He has already built up a favor bank that could propel him to the White House as the first Italian American president.

If he keeps this up it looks a real prospect

Niall..the country road you speak of is full of potholes and covered in dung.
So what were they all meant to "go forth and multiply " ON!?
I think that certain politicians who make a play on their 'Catholic' credentials and then do the very opposite by their actions in the legislature deserve some sort of reprimand. Inaction leads to confusion and the whole vicious circle will start again. Barneyjo, you make an good observation regarding the comments of Portuguese Cardinal Polycarpo but both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches have carried on this tradition of ordaining only men as priests for the better part of 2 milennia. You may disparage tradition but it is based upon the freely given choice of Jesus Christ who called forth only men to be the first generation of His apostles and to accompany him around the table at the Last Supper.
He is like his father, a piece of Sh*t politician. Do anything for a vote ! Lord O'Dowd if you don't drink, you should start now ! Wake up you're dreaming again !
I note that a senior catholic professor in Detroit is calling for excommunication for Andrew Cuomo. Y'know, for the sake of clarity, I sincerely hope that some of the US Cardinals would be stupid enough to lend support to this. When you add the duplicity of this nonsense to the comments from Cardinal Polycarpo of Lisbon Portugal who has said that there is no Theological barrier to women becoming priests, rather a barrier of "TRADITION" it is clearly an indication that the Church is at sea on so many issues. And, just as Scriputure tells us "A house divided against itself, cannot stand"!!
"best politician"? Is that better than worst g'ment employee? Is it better than worst citizen? Is it better than worst taxpayer?
Just another Democratic elitist politician who conveniently leaves the beliefs of the Faith he professes at the senate door. A sharp-suited front-man for lobbies who carry financial muscle to push through the legislation that they crave.
Niall, your liberal progressive bent is showing again - as it always does. Get real - is this the most important issue we face today? Is it even the most important social issue we face? Perhaps you should go back to Ireland to live, and you could take Cuomo with you. He's the perfect socialist to lead socialist Ireland.
All this talk is fine, but let's cut to the chase! "Can annyboddy be kind ennuf ta tel me whah part of da auld Shamrocky mossbank da darlint little fella hails frum? ~ I hear tell dere's a fella down the glen a bit, who says he knowed his great great great great great great, eh, - something! - ever before he even emigrated to Italy, in a time whin Irish legs were smiling - and the world was bright and GAAy!"
Niall,,,yes, you would make a great president of Ireland. Cuomo the best politician in America. What a joke. President of Ireland would be a perfect fit.
Cillowen: Is that stream of consciousness or just too many Powers?
Do you not find it ironic that you tout an "Italian American" who achieved landmark legislation in a Democrat dominated state on IRISH Central Blog and ignore an "Irish American" in the person of Governor Chris Christie who achieved landmark legislation in a Democrat-dominated state? Huh?
DannyBoyG...The Bill of Rights also extends the right to bear arms...This does not mean they can be applied, as in used, equally...see that Gov. Cuomo and others are Institutionalizing a positive government sanction REWARD SYSTEM for being gay. For people who want to be gay, be gay. Do not be gay, and say I/we are the same as hetero. Your hetero relationship may yield (I trust) happy children someday...straight or gay is not likely the indifferent role model choice you would want to advocate for them...Niall, Cuomo put no nomination in the bag with this maneuver.
Passing gay marriage was not his finest hour.
It is so funny to read you people who in anger blog here. You are so FAR behind what is going on you cannot see your own rear ends!! Who cares if you it is your last vote for Cuomo or you don't like what he did?? He performed the WILL OF the PEOPLE and the majority are happy!! And BTW i am heterosexual and married to a woman. So I have no agenda here. But I do believe in equal rights for ALL! But most of you I guess don't believe in equal rights for all??!! What happened to the Bill of Rights and Equal Rights in America? Oh...that's right the brilliant people conservatives of the 21st Century call that....Socialism. Well you can gladly all go stuff that!!!
