Former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley has conceded defeat to his Democratic rival Dan Malloy in the Connecticut governor’s race.

Foley made the announcement during a press conference today.

He lost in the end by less than 6,000 votes out of 1 million cast and had disputed the results up until the last minute.

However, recounts are only triggered in the state when the margin is less than 2,000 votes.

Foley faced a prohibitively expensive legal challenge to contest the result in court.

He may well decide to run again in the future, either for Joe Lieberman’s seat in 2012 or for governor again in 2014

The eastern podunk states of rhode island, vermont, connecticut and delaware have way too much power over the rest of the states united. Almost exclusively liberal democrats, they keep a decided center right citizenry captured in a left of center direction. When you add up their total populations they probably don't add up to the population of Los Angeles, one California city. Yet they get 8 US senators. Almost 20% of the political power wielded by a population of less that 1%. sum ting wong.
ditb: I am a staunch defender of Israel, and a patriot of the US. Liebermans 2 good points: Israel defender and pro military, do not outweigh his liberal agenda that have given us a 5 trillion dollar deficit. A bankrupt America does no one in the free world any good. He's been in the senate long enough, get some fresh blood in there,
monsoonman...are you not a staunch ally of Israel? What makes you anti-Israel?
Lieberman's a liberal only to those who are so far right, even W looks like a socialist. He's a two-faced little worm, no question, but as a real liberal -- one of the "professional left" so disdained by the Obama administration, ultimately to their own stupidly detriment -- Lieberman is one of those wolves in sheep's clothing whose actions consistently reveal just how self-centered, condescending and right wing he truly is. I don't mind him being kicked out...just by someone who is a TRUE liberal.
Lieberman is an utter liberal, except when it comes to national defense and being a staunch ally of Israel. I would like to see him gone, along with many others who have been in power way way way too long. Put some choices up there who are one or the other for a change, we are tired of "mavericks" who fake right but go left.
Lieberman is a creep--Good Luck, Foley.
