Tara Driscoll the Irish American teacher in New York who is accused of raping her 16-year old student is guilty of stupidity not rape.
The boy was within months of being the legal age in New York of 17 and would have been legal age in dozens of states.
I also firmly believe there is a difference between a 33-year-old female and a 33-year-old male carrying out that same act.
There are deep biological differences between the sexes girls and boys.
Boys are hardwired from their early teens to seek to procreate.
Sex becomes an all-abiding search for knowledge and the curiosity is intense
An older woman is seen as a divine way to begin the understanding of that process.
There's even a great movie about it, 'The Graduate.'

Young men were all looking for a Mrs Robinson around that time I remember.
Not for nothing did lords and nobles in London in times past send their sons to hookers to become properly initiated in the art of intercourse.
This young man just experienced what every 16-year-old boy would fantasize about at one time or another.
I just don't go for the political correctness that he was raped because he was a few months underage,
i think Driscoll seems like a sad case, a woman who had alcohol problems and had been transferred from her teaching job months earlier.
But do I think she was a rapist? Not at all. Troubled, stupid and guilty of bad judgement yes.
But no, not a rapist.
The young man will probably end up bragging about his experience in years to come-- that is the way of the world folks..

I've been involved in work with victims of child sexual abuse for over a decade. Mr Roberts is patently unqualified to making any judgements about any child sexual abuse else he would understand that the greatest long term harm generally occurs in instances inolving women abusing adolescent boys.
What he and Irish Central have done here is a grave disservice to victims and those who work with them. Your ignorance has made it harder for all of us.

Typical Hypocritical/Leftist-Progressive crap. "It's bad if Males do it but okay if Females do the exact same thing", right Patrick? Leftists always engage in this style of "reasoning", Hypocrisy is their stock in trade. Whatever they want NOW is what should be considered okay - and no hard and fast rules should get in the way. So there was an Antiwar movement only until Obama became President-THEN it was time to celebrate his great "victory" over Gaffadi, and not a word of protest over sending troops to Uganda, Southern Sudan, Central African Republic, Uganda. Waterboarding terrorists is an outrage, until it's time to celebrate Obama's "Presidentially-Authorized" targeted assassinations of US citizens in the Mideast-see, that's okay, 'cause it's only extrajudicial murder by Democrats. Crony Capitalism is wrong - until it's Nancy Pelosi or The Pres' Pal at GE or the Unions at GM pocketing the money, then it's "helping the economy," and we should give more. Herman Cain is some sort of 'monster'to the Media for various, unspecified, anonymous, allegations, but Bill Clinton gets a pass from the Media for a 14 year affair and coming on to interns and others, even while misusing his State Police bodyguards and his then-position as Governor to pursue his goals. It's just plain old hypocrisy, Patrick.

I think we still have to look at the case from a humane standpoint. We need to keep in mind what the impact was on the victim and keep the punishment in proportion somehow. There no doubt that what she did was wrong. If we assume that the victim is minimally affected, they should be compassionate. She lost her job and is facing all kinds of problems... putting her in jail for 30 years would not really make our society a better world. She deserves in my eyes a second chance... I think i would be wrong from us to equal this case to a rape, where the victim suffers the rest of their life...I do not see it is a double standard, from humane perspective we need to stay in proportion...

i agree with ptb0974. whoever wrote this article is a idiot and has nothin to do with the case. the whole story is based on pure sterotype and nothin else. statutory rape is statutory rape. thats no different than sayin a white person should be let free because they dont commit crime. whoever wrote this is a pure idiot has no respect from me and shouldnt even be a writer as well as whatever jury found her innocent. if the sexes had been reversed the older man would be in jail even if nothin happened because of stereotypes like this idiot author. but its ok. everything is equall rights when it comes to benefits but when it comes to takin responsibility and ownin up then it certainly cant be equall. but thats ok because this country and its double standard ways are takin a huge plunge.

I remember when I was about 14, I had this teacher who was an absolute bombshell and all the boys in the class were madly in love with her. If I'd been offered the CHANCE of getting into her bed, boy I wouldn't have missed the opportunity for anything in the world!
This american law of statutory "rape" is so freakin' stupid! Give the woman a break. The boy was almost 17 and sexually mature for several years, and just like any other teen, probably horny as hell.
Those goody-two-shoes who seem to be unable to do anything but throwing stones, like this ptb0974 moron, should really try to get a life, for a change. You haters are a bucket full of horsecrap. Where the hell did you get the notion that she was "preying" on him? And please explain how banging a student could possibly be about power. Unless said student was the son of a billionaire or politician, of course...

First of all you the writer of this article is an idiot. A wuss bag. Not sure if you are a female or amle but either way you are a piece of trash. You are missing the point. You have heard of equality? These feminists want it so badly but yet do not want to do the time when the crime is committed. I cannot stand idiots like yourself. you are the reason why attractive women get away with everything. Stop it!!!! Whether this is a school boys dream is not the issue. A 33 y/o man or a 33 yo preying on a 16 yo is about power. If you had a brain you would understand this. It's not about getting laid. And yes it is the same thing vice versa. This whore thinks its cute. Give her 5 years and she would not think so. It's time that this circus stops and that these stupid feamale teachers pay just like male teachers. I'm tired of these sub human females using the excuse...boo hoo.... I had bipolar...I had alcohol problems. Get over it!!!!! What does banging a 16 yo have to do with bipolar??? Nothing. So I guess when a 33 yo man has bipolar he should sleep with a 14 yo girl. Cut it out and stop justifying!!!!!! Stop kissing ass because she is maybe an attractive female.

I don't often agree with you Niall but you've hit the nail right on the head this time! She was totally inappropiate in her actions, and he just a horny bugger, but she did not rape the boy in any sense of the word.

Rape is a crime of abuse and control over another. She was in a position of power and control over her students and chose to abuse that power. She is no better than a pedophile priest. Rogers is just a sick twat.

Most here who made a comment on this article / situation must be IRISH! So ready to throw another bucket of irish guilt on it all! The writer is spot on. There are rapists....and then there is a woman here who is not the brightest light on the tree. She is wrong and should be punished. But a "rapist"??!! Spare me!!
The the author of this article is right. This boy here is months from legal age and isn't losing sleep over what happened. Trust me...Unless of course he is dreaming about it over and over again.
Ok all you too straight for own good Irish who need a life with some excitement in it!!!!...grab your air masks because I know your gasping for air! LOL!!! We irish...so sad we cannot help ourselves!!!!!

I am sure that she has regrets. The problem with the priests is they seem to have no regrets for what they did. I wonder what the boy will think years from now. There was another famous case in this country where the teacher and the boy married later and stayed married. I wonder what biology has to say about this. I was accosted by two teachers when I was in college. In the 60's. I was afraid to tell anyone, but it was humiliating.
