Rick Perry was all hat and no cattle -- His exit helps Newt Gingrich beat Mitt Romney

Newt Gringrich and Mitt Romney

Just a week ago the media assured us that Mitt Romney was the inevitable Republican nominee.

Now we're not so sure.

His victory in Iowa turns into a dead heat with no winner declared.

New Hampshire's win was in a state where he had a summer residence and was governor of the state next door.

The latest poll from South Carolina shows Gingrich closing to within two points.

And now Rick Perry has endorsed the former speaker.

Perry turned out to be all hat and no cattle as they say in Texas, utterly destroyed by his sorry debate performances.

With his exit, the votes will surely go to Newt, his fellow southerner and conservative bosom buddy.

That should help Gingrich defeat Romney who is swimming in a swamp of questions about his wealth, his tax payments and his religion.

So if Newt wins South Carolina that brings up Florida as the big kahuna.

Romney is ahead there too, but as a southern state Gingrich will definitely close the gap quickly, especially if he wins South Carolina.

So it is still all to play for.

If Santorum drops out after South Carolina, look out!

His voters will flock to Newt.

And once more the pundits are eating crow after declaring Romney the premature winner.

For my money Gingrich can still and probably will win it all.

Especially if Santorum folds.

Someone who is willing to change his mind or someone who is so rigid and stubborn that he won't take into account a more experienced outlook or any new information/evidence that comes to light? I've changed my mind about several issues in the last several years as I've listened to and evaluated more information from new sources. Show me a political person who hasn't "flip-flopped" on any issue, including our past presidents and congressmen. michaelidaho and donal1951 make good points.

Please ... stop with the drama already. Newt's candidacy will be strengthened by Perry's exit ... but not by much. Perry had little support even in S.C. Gingrich has way too much baggage and continues to come across as belligerent, arrogant, hypocritical, inflammatory, etc. Mitt will be the President barring a dramatic turn around in the economy or a major Romney scandal. Either is highly unlikely.

Romney's wealth, his position on issues and his purported flip-flopping are fair game. But his religion _ he's a Mormon _ should be off the table. I am old enough to remember John Kennedy's 1960 race where some Protestants refused to support him, claiming the Pope would call the shots in a JFK administration. That was untrue. I doubt Romney will allow the Morman hierarchy to tell him what to do, beyond the religious training he's already had.
