Rising Republican star Sean Duffy, the Wisconsin Irish American congressman, has been brought back down to earth by a video showing him complaining about his $174,000 a year salary, three times the median income in his state.

TPM reports that the Republican Party in the state has made strenuous efforts to take down the video and remove it from the internet after they realized the damage it would cause.

The video above is from the same event but does not include the controversial comments. You can go to TPM.com to find it

Duffy was talking about his salary at a Republican town meeting. In the clip, Duffy is asked whether he'd support cutting his own salary.

Duffy says he would, but only as part of a plan where all public employees' salaries would be cut. He then stated that the $174,000 in salary he makes is tough for his family to live on. In the TPM clip he is complaining about making ends meet on his salary, plus lucrative expenses.

The former reality show star should have known better. The reality is that Wisconsin union members making just $45,000 a year just had their salaries cut by the governor. And Duffy feels hard done by?

Another example of Republican hypocrisy.

Oh poor Mr. Duffy. How would he like living on a small pension and social secrutiy and with everything going up we have not received a cola increase in over two years.
Kind of like Obama on the debt ceiling, and taxes, and Guantanomo, and....
A republican being a hypocrite? Well I never........
No reason to feel bad, odonnell521! The workers of Wisconsin have unleashed a powerful and dynamic movement on the country. There will be recalls of politicians and plenty of new activity in several state legislatures, all of it inspired by the grass-roots energy we've seen taking hold in Wisconsin.
Maybe IC can do a story on the Wisc. supreme court race where the liberal declared herself the winner. Now the truth comes out and the Republican won by several thousand votes. What happened to support for the unions? What happened to teaching the new Governor a lesson? The people have spoken and the conservatives win!!
Obciously, I don't think much of it. How about the perks, Free mailing and Air Flights.
You've got the wrong video here. Clicking on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAAtSVQyXZU will give you part of the intended view of this congressional whiner. It doesn't include his crying wee, wee, wee all the way home though.
And this moron wants to cut benefits to those earning a quarter of his salary. He's just another "hog in the trough"teahadist.
How about merit pay? NO CONGRESSMAN LEFT BEHIND -- How are the taxes, jobs, and home values in their state? How does their state rate against other states? What did they do to bring in new business to the state? Why do they deserve to keep their job? List goes on...
moygannon stated "One must be paid a decent salary in accordance with responsibility otherwise corruption will prevail." moygannon, there is no logical argument in this statement.
OMG - another whiney Republican. This is so symbolic of the American Republican politician and why America is in he mess it is today.
As a citizen of Wisconsin, I'm embarassed and ashamed of our latest crop of politicans. They make a potato blight look good.
He'll soon find the trough and put his nose in it the arrogant fool.
These new members of Congress are stunned by the real world of governing. It's a bit like some of us being asked to take over as a point guard position this weekend for a Final Four team. Majority Whip Cantor even thinks just passing a bill in the House makes it a law and he's been around a while.
Search the internet and see how many days they are actually in session. I found it to be less then 110 days a year. When Congress was first established, they went home to plant their crops and later went home to harvest. Washington DC was too hot in the summer and disease ridden so they weren't there. Well times have changed but they are still working less despite air conditioning etc. The average person gets a day or 2 for a holiday, they get weeks. So to complain about this good salary is ridiculous. Most of them are millionaires anyway.
