Now Rand Paul wants to fry Mexicans with electric fences
By: Patrick Roberts | Published Thursday, June 17, 2010, 6:57 PM | Updated Friday, September 9, 2011, 9:41 PM

Rand Paul has stated that he is in favor of building an underground electrified fence to stop immigrants coming in to
America from
Mexico.
Speaking to Russian television he said "Millions crossing our border without our knowledge constitutes a clear threat to our nation's security. I will work to secure our borders immediately. My plans include an underground electric fence, with helicopter stations to respond quickly to breaches of the border.
With leaders like these no wonder the Republican Party is in the toilet with Hispanic voters.
Electrified fences would ensure lots of dead bodies of women and children if they tried to cross, just the type of image that America needs in the world.
He also wants children of undocumented to no longer be considered Americans --in direct violation of the 14th Amendment.
The anchor baby argument put forward by Paul and others is ridiculous. A child has to attain the age of 21 before they can claim in a parent.
Paul already is on record opposing the 1964 Civil Righs Act that gave Blacks equality, now he wants fried Mexicans as a tasty desert to his main course of keeping Blacks out.
This guy is the future of the Republican Party?
God Help us all.

I'm not in favor of killing illegal Mexicans! I am in favor of preventing their illegal entry into the US. There is a system to keep dogs from leaving their home yards by means of some kind of jolt that keeps them from crossing their own yard. If that's not possible I would favor an electrified fence with enough voltage to make it extremely uncomfortable to touch, but not to kill.

Rand Paul or Governor Christie for President!

They want you there.

Guinnes girl: The way "amnesty was justified and explained at the time it was done during the Reagan years was that it was a one time occurrence for 3 million, never to be repeated. No illegal entries would be tolerated again and there were no social services like there are today. Now it is estimated there are 20 million and thousands more pouring across every day, many of them draining our social welfare system. Enough is enough. Come in legally or get the hexx out.

An "Electronic Fence" doesn't constitute a "Electrifed Fence". It is a electronic "detection" fence of ground sensors, that can "feel" weight,or sound, and determine weither it's a goat, or Coyote leading a group of people across our boarders illegally. This piece is a delibrate distortion of Mr Rand Paul, and presents a socialist spin worthy of the former Soviet Union.
GuinnessGrrl | Jun 01, 2010, 04:34 PM EDT
I wonder if all those screaming "no amnesty" did as much prostesting against it when Ronald Reagan gave amnesty?
Monsoonman | Jun 01, 2010, 09:57 AM EDT
Bring back the Bracero program for itinerant farmworkers. It worked superbly until the labor unions/democrats shut it down for political purposes.

Now that LOST is over the "Others" have a fence to sell. Could use it along the boarder.

Whether people want to admit it or not, Mexicans are the backbone of America. They milk the cows, harvest the crops and do all the jobs Americans wouldn't be caught dead doing. Our crops would rot on the vines without them.

People who come here to sell their services are prohibited by law from organizing labor unions to demand a fair wage. The Catholic Church calls this "oppression of the poor" and "defrauding working people of their earnings." Both of these practices are grossly immoral - to the point that the Church says they "cry out to Heaven for vengeance." Viva Cardenal Mahony!

Good point, feeneycj, many Mexicans and others have perished while trying to cross the desert and get into our country illegally. Illegal immigration suits the coyotes and other parasites that prey on poor people from Mexico, Guatemala etc. If those folks knew there was no chance they could stay in the US they wouldn't attempt the crossing. I have every sympathy for illegal aliens, but that doesn't mean I want to see an amnesty, here in the US or in Ireland.
feeneycj | May 31, 2010, 05:54 PM EDT
frying Mexicans? a really hyped title. Sadly, many have fried in the dry hot desert areas on foot, thousands have died from exposure. When will you misguided do-gooders realize that there is such a thing as SAFE and LEGAL immigration? look, keep the illegals out. fences, electric or not, technology, more troops; just keep us safe and keep all the unidentifiable illegals out.

FYI: There is an electric fence around the Statue of Liberty ... to keep drunk Irishmen from climbing up (no kidding) ... but not to kill, merely to stun and make the point: If you don't know the what, why and how of an electric fence, you very soon will, drunk, sober or DWM.
FastEddy | May 31, 2010, 01:42 PM EDT
Why is my first comment always blocked here? Was it something I didn't say?

Monsoonman: " The canadians don't swim across their river to pay for and get first rate American health care. They drive across. " But in-the-know chinooks, brits, aussies and gringos now fly ... to Mazatlan, where vacationing Kaiser docs and nurses flock to very fine facilities ... they even take your Kaiser cards there.
FastEddy | May 31, 2010, 01:30 PM EDT
Yeah, right. From Kentucky, right. BTW: most electric fences just keep the cows in their places, but does not kill them. For those who need to know, there is an electric fence around the Statue of Liberty ... to keep drunk Irishmen from climbing it so they don't kill themselves ... No kidding.
Monsoonman | May 31, 2010, 12:53 PM EDT

mrkennedy | May 31, 2010, 10:44 AM EDT
My father could not come into the U.S. because there were quotas years ago so he spent two years in Argentina until he was eligible. The electric fence is a good idea and the degree of watts can be adjusted so nobody will die but when touching that location will simply recoil from it's effects and stay in Mexico!!
bonitapowers | May 31, 2010, 09:33 AM EDT
As an American I think we should work on helping Mexico make their country strong so that there is no reason to leave such a beautiful place. I live near the Canadian border. We have no fences on our borders and I don't see the Canadians swimming the Niagara River to get to the other side. Let help Mexico strenghten their economy so their people do not find the need to leave to survive.
DennisQ | May 31, 2010, 09:25 AM EDT
George, I don't believe you. I don't think you can document your assertion about emigration from Ireland while there was full employment. Would you provide the source for this? Frankly it sounds like the sort of suspicious statistics right wingers claim are true . . . but aren't. Is this the future of the Republican party - inventing so-called "facts" on cue? God help us all.
GeorgeDillon | May 31, 2010, 06:26 AM EDT
DennisQ: What you say is nonsense. Huge numbers of Irish came to the US illegally when there was FULL employment in Ireland. We shouldn't have any sympathy with those people. The Irish government encourages their own people to emigrate, while at the same time encouraging foreigners to immigrate into Ireland. I't's a crazy policy!
DennisQ | May 31, 2010, 03:12 AM EDT
Right wing thinking is one-sided. Multinational corporations devastate entire communities, even whole countries, just by picking up and leaving. Rand Paul applauds the multinationals in the name of freedom. However, if the Irish left in the lurch come here to find a market for their services, why then they are criminals.
GeorgeDillon | May 30, 2010, 03:31 PM EDT
Every Irish person I know, both in Ireland the US, feels that Irish illegal aliens do not deserve any support from the Irish government or any other group. In fact they squirm when the Dublin government tries to back illegal emigration to the US, because they know the damage that massive legal & illegal immigration has done to Ireland itself.

LMAO @ Monsoonman!!
Monsoonman | May 30, 2010, 12:58 PM EDT
I think that ic should invite famed Irish physicist, Dr. Rosie O'Donnel to write a weakly science column for the edification of its readers. Dr. O'Donnel can explain in scientific terms how it is impossible for fire to melt steel, as the bush administration has claimed, among many other profound statements she has made over the years.
irishwxman | May 30, 2010, 11:05 AM EDT
Mr. Roberts, you are an UNBELIEVABLE tool. You loons on the left just love to spin the truth don't you? All of you wing nuts are trying to paint Rand Paul as a racist, and it is clearly not sticking. Maybe you guys should find a new hobby....like urinating on those electric fences to see if they work.
DennisQ | May 30, 2010, 01:31 AM EDT
Doctors are constantly under pressure. If they take a day off, their appointments pile up. They have to hire a staff person just to keep up with the paperwork. And if they make a mistake, they get sued. It's no surprise that doctors' political opinions are often bizarre. The way they tell it, they're the biggest victims of all. Rand Paul MD fits right in. He's not a nut job; he's just a doctor.
McNabb1966 | May 30, 2010, 12:54 AM EDT
Every day is April Fool's Day for Patrick Roberts, apparently. This joke of an article is merely the latest in a string of intellectually dishonest ramblings in which the writer can't get past his own bias.
ritmomente | May 29, 2010, 10:37 PM EDT
Thank you McNamara! I'm not the only one on here looking a guest worker visa to be provided to these folks. Where is the Pro-Life stance in Rand Paul? We've already proved that there is no such thing as a Pro-Life Democrat.
GeorgeDillon | May 29, 2010, 05:01 PM EDT
DennisQ: "Rand Paul is missing an empathy gland" Nonsense. A guy like Paul who doesn't want us to get involved in useless foreign wars has a lot more empathy than all the politicians who do!
Monsoonman | May 29, 2010, 02:02 PM EDT
...Missing an empathy gland? The truth is that those that cry for more "empathy" are those that don't pay for that empathy, but are actually the recipients of that government enforced at the point of a bayonnet empathy. I think we see how much empathy comes from clinton and biden when Joe gives 500 to charity and clinton writes off his used underwear as a tax write off. But of course they will always spend others money, for their empathetic voter base.
DennisQ | May 29, 2010, 08:24 AM EDT
Rand Paul is missing an empathy gland. He has no way to relate to other people's fears. When he suggested that civil rights should not apply to public accommodations, party leaders kept him off national television. They can't shut him up forever. He is, after all, running for office. It's a win-win for the Democrats whether Rand Paul gets elected or not.
GeorgeDillon | May 29, 2010, 07:34 AM EDT
What a load of nonsense. The Irish changed their constitution about 5 years back, when they found that thousands of foreign women were coming to Ireland just to give birth to an Irish citizen. We need to do the same. Wake up, Paul Roberts.
Monsoonman | May 29, 2010, 01:23 AM EDT
You sir are clintonesque, plain and simple. I heard the interview Rand Paul gave regarding the 1964 Civil Rights act and it is not at all what you portray it to be. You should correct your editorial to reflect the truth of his statement to avoid further damage to your credibility.
McNamara31 | May 28, 2010, 08:48 PM EDT
This "us" and "them" mentality is not what made America great and will only further divide us. Immigrants have always come from south of the border for jobs. Allow guest worker programs that allow immigrants to work here, pay taxes here, and return across the border to their families.
