| Newt Gingrich |
Newt Gingrich is now leading the national poll of Republican presidential contenders according to Quinnipiac.
And the Republican right seems intent on political suicide.
That's the only way to read that poll, given that all the resistance to Romney is coming from the right who don't like him.
Yet the same poll showed that Gingrich trails Romney by 38 per cent to 22 per cent among Republicans when asked who has the better chance of defeating President Obama.
It is clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that Gingrich is a deeply flawed candidate.
The three wives, deserting one as she was in hospital with cancer, his ties to Freddie Mac and his downright obnoxious personality will all count heavily against him.

Then there is his latest wife Callista, a control freak, who will soon wear thin on the voters.
These are all red warning tags for Republicans.
Somehow many of them don't seem to care.
They ran candidates like this in the last election and threw away senate seats in Delaware and Nevada.
Could they now be ready to do it again?
The Obama folk must be praying its Gingrich and chanting 'Newt Newt Newt' in their sleep.
They know he is simply unelectable.
And so do most Republicans.
Or do they?

Let me guess, YOU ARE NOT A REPUBLICAN. Why don't you EVER write stuff about the others in this race. What makes you people think BO (Obama) is so great? If you can't be fair to all sides then just SHUT UP!

@JudyStinger - In our system, you can not change things until you get elected. To get elected, you have to sell your soul the the rich people and corporations (remember they are people too) that pay for your campaign. If you want to get re-elected so that you can make a change, you have to only agree to the things your masters want you to agree to. And THEY do not want you to compromise their wishes. Even when you are ready to give up seeking re-election, you do your master's bidding because they promise you a cushy job in their industries. So far, OWS is just shouting about how mad the 99% are with this corrupt system that we live under. Two good changes would remove all private money from campaigns and would outlaw lobbyists. The catch 22 is that to get those changes, our elected officials have to be willing to sacrifice themselves and their careers for the nation's welfare. Not too many HEROS have applied so far. Becareful who you pick instead of Obama. In Ohio, as in Wisconsin, many democrates voted for republicans in 2010 and are now really kicking themselves. Remember, no matter how bad it is, it can always get worse!

I am a Democrat and would vote for anyone at this point that would stop a second term of President Obama. Obama has been campaigning for the past several months while this country is going through an economic collapse. I'm tired of all the rhetoric about class warfare and partisian politics. It's apparent that re-election is the priority of those in Washington at the epxense of this country and it's citizens. The day of the career politician must end. We need to be represented by people who are willing to negotiate with each other and solve issues. The constant attacking isn't resolving any of the problems--wonder why they don't get that.

Part II - @jnewnam - For example, Solyndra was a Bush Administration hand-me-down and Obama just took a photo-op at their plant. The guy who ran Fast and Furious is the "Temp" head of the ATF because the idiot republicans in the senate will not approve Obama's choice for its director. (Many agencies are being run with out directors because of GOP politics) As for Obama's being an "economic idiot," the CBO just published its paper on how the his stimulus saved the America economy from ruin and all the other debt increase "under him" can be laid at GW's two wars which GW did not have the guts to include in his budgets. When Obama rightly included the cost of those wars in his accounting, the debt bloomed. Every economist says that "trickle down" is a lie. Demand drives supply never the other way around. It is always a good idea to get your information from as many sources as possible. When most say one thing and Fox tells it differently, Fox is probably wrong or lying. I can not speak to your description of Newt's interaction with his family. I hope you are right on that point at least. If the man has found God, I hope he seeks His guidance in all of his future actions. Sadly his new found "Humanity" in tonight's debate may end for him the way Perry's did.

Part I - @jnewnam - you must watch Fox "news" regularly as you have all of their anti-Obama propaganda litany down pretty well. I just saw a survey by a Private University in New Jersey that compared peoples' understanding of current events with their choice of news media. Surprisingly people who did not pay attention to the news on any media understood current events better than those who followed Fox regularly. This is because of the massive amount of misinformation being generated by Murdock and Ailes. Examples Will Follow:

Oh Lefties, you have gotten it so wrong once again. The FACTS ARE THAT his first wife asked him for a divorce before her discovery of cancer and in FACT Newt was towing their two children to and from the hospital to visit their mother. But the facts never, never get in the way of a leftie telling a lie. Why so afraid of Newt? Could it be that his intelligence and his knowledge of how the US government works and his knowledge of the facts and his ability to back up a question and set the FACTS straight so frightens the left and communist Obama? Could it be that Newt would so beat Obama in any debate? And while I'm at it lets just add that Newt is a recent convert to Catholicism, at the influence of his VERY PRACTICING CATHOLIC WIFE . YOU KNOW, CONFESSION, FORGIVENESS AND COMMUNION! Do you remember..FORGIVENESS FOR SINS BY confessing my sins, doing penance AND AMENDING MY LIFE, AMEN. NEWT WORKED WITH CLINTON AND BECAUSE OF HIM WE HAD A BUDGET SURPLUS. NEWT ALSO HAS A GREAT HISTORY WITH THE MILITARY, HIS FATHER WAS A ARMY LIFER. UNLIKE OBAMA HE HAS A GREAT RESPECT FOR THE MILITARY. Obama is a disgrace, is now planning to steal our 401k's and IRA's. Obama is an economic idiot. He has killed more jobs on a whim from the new healthcare tax on medical devices (Medtronic Mini Med, Stryker, Boston Scientific) to the AT&T T-Mobile deal to the Keystone Pipeline the man DOES NOT HAVE THE AMERICAN WORKER AND THE MIDDLE CLASS at heart. Then there is the 8000 fire employees from NASA, the interference with free states re: Boeing and the theft of money and breaking of contract law re: senior secured bond holders at GM. Now add Solyndra (and others) and Fast and Furious (you know the gun running and supplying of guns to the Mexican mass murdering drug cartels. Gee, I think that Iran/Contra pales in comparison to Fast and Furious. Political paybacks are rampant in the O administration.Obama has never met a LAW he was unwilling to break.

He seems to have some of John Edwards attributes, that upstanding Democrat, right Patrick. I don't care who wins in 2012 as long as it's not Obama. He has destroyed America, no leadership skills and plenty of lies and dishonesty.

Ephraim Kibbey - right on! Stop doing the work for them is right. However, recording facts should be the work of the Fourth Estate. It should be noted that Newt was on the payroll of Big Pharma when the Plan D vote was being wrangled in Congress and we see how that has turned out to be such an overwhelming gift to Big Pharma and the Health Insurance Industry. As was written here in Irish Central, Newt Gingrich's Contract for America turned into the Contract ON America. However, it just seems that no one cares to really think things through anymore because if they did, they would realize that it began in the Reagan/Bush administration, the firing of PATCO and IranContra and the delightful world of De-Regulation - the permission to steal. This country is not in a Depression; this country is in Despair.

STOP IT!!! Stop vetting the GOP candidates for them. If they don't have a brain between them to see these clowns for what they really are, let them ask the wizard to chose a candidate. If the thinking press keeps quiet, maybe, just maybe, they will actually run one of these bozos. If you keep giving them the advantage of your research they might actually choose a real live intellegent conservative like William F. Buckley (from back when I was a Republican) - his son is out there somewhere although he got canned from his GOP press job for speaking the truth. The GOP has trouble with that "Truth" thing, you know.

A vote for Gingrich is a vote for evil, period. He is the epitome of selfishness, and his actions have proven this over and over and over, again. He will not be elected if he happens to get the nomination. Mittens will be the nominee and we will have 4 more years of Bush/Obama. God help us all, because our politicians sure as hell won't.

Newt is a very intelligent man and the left wing liberals will do anything to smear his name because they are scared to death of him.
For years I have heard that he served his wife with divorce papers while she was on her death bed. For years I thought she had died because that is what the left wanted us to believe to make him look bad. The truth is that the woman is still alive and well. Newt may have served her with divorce papers while she was in the hospital but it was not her death bed.
Don't believe everything the left wing news media tells you because a lot of it is lies.
Vote for anybody but Obama.
