The poor performance of Rick Perry in Thursday night's GOP debate has upset senior Democrats no end.
They had been licking their lips at the prospects of facing Perry in the general election.
His talk about Texas seceding from the union, of calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme had gladdened the hearts of Obama staffers as they imagined a debate between the two men.
Now it looks like 'steady as she goes' Romney is ready to take back the role of favorite.
Romney is the one opponent that Obama fears in this election.
He has not quite got into bed with the worst of the basket case Tea Party extremists and has retained a centrist appeal beyond the lunatic fringes.
What Democrats are most worried about is a Romney/Rubio ticket.
Senator Marco Rubio is the Florida incumbent who has energized Latinos in that state to vote for him.
A candidate who can cut into the solidly Democratic Hispanic voting block for Republicans would be huge.
That vote went overwhelmingly to Obama last time out.
But he has failed to deliver on immigration reform and Rubio, as a Hispanic, would have a hugely popular appeal to the Hispanic base.
The fact that he is from the key state of Florida would also mean that geographically, he is a perfect fit for East Coast and Utah Romney.
Democrats will be hoping Governor Perry makes a comeback and quick, but he may already have permanently damaged his prospects.

Obama turned out to be the president of big money, too big to fail, bail out the banks, insurance companies, car etc. Spending money like big business gone wild and favoring big unions. Proposing a bill to tax his jet owner and rich friends he knows will absolutely not pass so he can blame republicans. He even vacations with his private jet owner friends in Martha's vineyard. I afraid the party that favors big business in now the democrats. What a shame!

Oh rthe wasila queen might join in the race - a race to the bottom eg murder - her website in 2010 featued 20 democrats in the crosshairs. One btw was Gabriel Giffords.
And her moral value daughter who should have her kid renamed Abstinence.
Both of them remind me of a medical term for a womans birth control opening

Go republicans.
Even if you have to dig up Ronald reagan's remains; get someone on the ticket who will stomp the guts out of Obama at the polls.

Ponzi Scheme. ???? The dogs that cannot stop eating are just trying to get their hands on all of the Social Security money that all Americans have been contributing to since their first snowshoveling job when they were 15 years old. They cannot stand to see the people's. money in escrow and not be able to steal it .... These filthy stinking pigs are whores and hustlers of the worst degree. They have stolen from the population, and have then been reimbursed for all of the $$$ that have disappeared. Now they want the last lifeblood of American society. At least in a banana republic you know who the three or four people are that have made life miserablle. Life does not get better, but the perps at best get a message.

The game may not yet be over, since with both Bachmann and now possibly Perry fading away, there is an opening for the Wasilla Queen to finally enter the picture.

@FatherVol - guys like you repeating the big tea bagger lie that SS is a ponzi scheme does not make it so. You don't have to believe me - just ask Willard, who has schooled Rick Perry on this fact in the recent Republican debates. SS needs some adjustments, yes, just like Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill did in the mid 1980s.

Well, Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme. Anyone who has studied economics and understands its structure up recognizes that...unless they are lying to themselves and the people they are trying to convince about how eveil the Republicans are.
The Democrates should be worried whe the general public becomes aware that it was they who passed a bill putting SS funds is to the general operating fund of the federal government to cover the giveaways of the Great Society, removing it from its protected status and sounding the death note more than 40 years ago.
