Good for Jerry Seinfeld when it comes to stating that the emperor has no clothes.
Or in this case that the entire Royal Wedding shebang is a dress up fantasy meaning absolutely nothing.
Speaking like a true republican Seinfeld told a British TV show that;
"Well it's a circus act, it's an absurd act," Seinfeld said (via the Daily Mail). "You know, it's a dress-up. It's a classic English thing of let's play dress-up. Let's pretend that these are special people. OK, we'll all pretend that -- that's what theater is."
Seinfeld continues, "And that's what the royal family is -- it's a huge game of pretend. These aren't special people -- its fake outfits, fake phoney hats and gowns."
He is so correct. Maybe in the days when Britain ruled the waves, there was a point to all this poop and nonsense.
Now its just fairy tale stuff for little girls and grown women to dream about the fantasy wedding they probably never had.
Stuff and nonsense indeed
Well done Seinfeld

FallsRNat, I completely agree with you that it's time for the sectarian hostilities to end and for all sides to embrace peace and move on from a bitter history. Here in the 'states, that enduring hostility to the British has expanded over the generations from the 19th century Irish Republican Brotherhood in NY to include other ethnicities, religions, lifestyles, gender roles. It's a heritage of bigotry that you can spot clearly in many postings on IC, and yes, it has victimized me (email harassment to shut me up, for ex.). Bigotry against the British?-- yes, we've probably all slipped into it, and you're right to remind us about the struggle to move on from it. None the less, I don't think that's what motivated Seinfeld's remarks. Today's NY Times' article entitled "This Tarnished Crown" concludes with a hope that the wedding will restore the affection that many still feel for the British monarchy, but with changes like an end to an Established Church and acknowledgment that the UK is a multi-racial society. I'm all for those changes, just as I will continue to call for change in the Irish-American groups I see here in the US. Even if the wedding is only symbolic of a new beginning, symbols are important for restoring civility among the factions.

eiriamach - my family traces in RA roots back to 1912 & were actively involved in 1916-21, 30-60s, we fell out of love with PIRA as we recognised that violence was never going to produce a UI. However, times changed & even the Baron has finally seen the light & renounced violence. What i don't get is all of the self pity, whingeing, anti british ideals on events that have & should be consigned to history. Here in the North nationalist, republicans, unionists & loyalists are moving to appreciate & live with each other's cultural identities. The war is over for us, what we want to build is a future for all of our children to grow up in peace, we don't need or want anything to happen that will upset this. it doesn't matter that we still live in the UK, PEACE is the greatest of god's gifts & we want to enjoy it. God bless PC Kerr he died a hero's death, protecting us from the mad people, if the irish in the 26 counties & the US finally want to join us in the promised land then please add your voices to the call to halt the armed campaign.
bullocks | Apr 23, 2011, 10:14 AM EDT
eiriamach you have to ask yourself which came first, being dropped by English tele or the attack on the royal family. He is just another sad American with no sense of humour.
eiriamach | Apr 22, 2011, 09:59 PM EDT
Ya know what else besides racism is ugly, FallsRNat? Censorship, trying to shut people up. It's also counter-productive. You don't get people to stop "whining" about "victimhood" by cyber-bullying them.
FallsRNat | Apr 22, 2011, 03:15 PM EDT
seinfield & this board can't stop talking about the Royal Family cause the one thing that youse both can't bear is that for once, nobody will be listening to your whining victimhood statements, everybody will be to busy enjoying themselves. seinfield has been on an anti british rant for the last couple of weeks & cause nobody's taken any notice has slated the Royals, shame everybody knows his show is being ditched by british TV, uh, is this the real reason for his insidious comments.
eiriamach | Apr 22, 2011, 11:24 AM EDT
abhainn, I appreciate your comment, though I am an older Irish American who finds that ugly racism at least half, probably more, among younger Irish Americans, and that is a profound disappointment. Oh no, they say, they're not anti-Black; they're just pro-"birther," or pro-KKK. Oh no, they say, they're not anti-Semitic; they're just kind of pro-Nazi, not anti-feminist, just pro-male-dominance. A bigot by any other name is still a thorn in the side of decency. You tell 'em!
abhainn | Apr 22, 2011, 10:35 AM EDT
BRONXJAMES: You exemplify the ugly racism I find among some older Irish Americans towards Blacks and Jews that I find so disgusting and embarrassing. Your bigotry is pure filth. TREALACH: "Seinfeld" is transmitted all over the world. PITTSBURGHKID: What does "flagulate" mean? YAKIMAK: Medicine time!
abhainn | Apr 22, 2011, 10:24 AM EDT
Go, Gerry!
Towngate | Apr 22, 2011, 06:19 AM EDT
littlejim judgemental: In the main, the British people Love and cherish their Royal Family. That is their heartfelt free choice - however hard that is for you to understand. Nobody is demanding you have respect for Titles and Honours. You are free to make up your own mind about that. I would like to know how you feel about all the titled authority figures in US society who demand your respect such as Sheriff,Judge,President,First Lady ....
littlejim | Apr 22, 2011, 05:46 AM EDT
If the british people see any use for the queen and her klan, then enjoy them.It is not for me to pass judgement.I am a loud mouth yank,And dont carry any respect for anyone with the title of royal.kings, queens, princes, princesses dead or alive from any country.they are outdated and should just go awayi mean the middle east royals to
Realist | Apr 22, 2011, 05:38 AM EDT
"the current royal family aren't really English anyway, and haven't been for many centuries"? Lol....really, even when they were born and brought up in England? What does that make "Irish Americans" then? I guess this site will have to close down then.
elektros | Apr 21, 2011, 02:28 PM EDT
Well, it takes one to know one. An actor, that is. I hope he realises he is no more special than they are, and really rather less. As for purity of race, the feller that said that is obviously racist, plus the current royal family aren't really English anyway, and haven't been for many centuries.
Towngate | Apr 21, 2011, 12:18 PM EDT
The Colonel of the Irish Guards, and future King of Great Britain is getting married to Catherine Middleton. The Irish will form the 'Queens Guard' on the day. Prince William may even wear his Irish Dress Uniform. Makes you proud to be Irish.
lostgold | Apr 20, 2011, 11:06 AM EDT
Your right Moloney the royal family wedding is such drivel. You and Seinfeld are both spot right.
maloney | Apr 20, 2011, 12:45 AM EDT
yakimak..such drivel.
yakimak | Apr 19, 2011, 09:58 PM EDT
No it isn't. not for these people for the real truth is that in the English speaking world that is rapidly becoming race-mixed the house of Windsor will be of pure blood and descent while you clowns that thrive on the likes of Elton John,Brittany Spears,Little Richard,Elvis, Micheal Jackson and the rest of them will have your mixed race descendants toting garbage in Sydney or Dublin while the glories of the unmixed descent of the house of Windsor will be extolled 4000 years from now. So light off on your motorcycle A-hole and listen to the latest rap-crap. Oh by the way don't forget to light up a joint while dustin down the road.
Towngate | Apr 19, 2011, 06:05 PM EDT
Seinfeld and the writer Roberts are simply sucking up to their Brit-basher audience. ~~~ Two young people are getting married whose destiny is to be King and Queen of Northern Ireland amongst many other places and particularly to Reign over the six million Irish Citizens currently choosing to live in Great Britain. To my knowledge, so far; the future King Billy II has not expressed a desire to regain his 'lost' Irish territories. But he might! Meantime, better be nice to him - just in case!!
bullocks | Apr 17, 2011, 05:51 PM EDT
Right - for a start, according to my sister, a resident of california, you yanks are taking this wedding a lot more serious than here in England. we never heard about "Harry hunting" until she told us about it. No 2 -at the moment he is an actual helicopter rescue pilot. is that not work ? No 3 Its Got F**k all to do with anyone but the two people involved. If you don't like it don't watch. As far as I am concerned its an extra bank holiday
sirpeter | Apr 17, 2011, 11:23 AM EDT
UnRealist..I was going to comment. But it's all been said really..Poop and Nonsense. Grovel and fawn to the richest dysfunctional family in the world. How subservient is that.
bethany123 | Apr 17, 2011, 10:04 AM EDT
Speaking of a "circus act" and a "huge game of pretend"...who is more of a ridiculous figure than Seinfeld who had a TV series. He's an actor. "These aren't special people" and his opinion is no more valid than anyone else's. Huge ego doesn't make you special either. He's engaged in the same thing as the royals....fantasy and a "huge game of pretend."
TheaterFan | Apr 17, 2011, 01:40 AM EDT
And we're supposed to think Jerry Seinfeld is the paradigm of class and manners? How about Jerry's own marriage? He met his wife in a gym when she had just been married for three weeks to someone else. She immediately dumped the other guy & married Jerry... guess he had the fatter wallet. And now Jerry is lecturing on class and virtue? Give me a break.
Realist | Apr 16, 2011, 08:56 PM EDT
celticfour: "So another little whore joins the family"? My friend I think that low rent remark tells us a lot more about you and your upbringing than it does about an innocent young lady being made dirt of on the eve of her wedding. If you are what passes for an Irishman, I can only imagine the forty shades of green are scarlet red with embarrassment. Shame on you sir.
myhomenj | Apr 16, 2011, 08:31 PM EDT
Thank you all for the good laugh. You were all so funny, accept for celticfour, he/she/it scared me a little ha ha ha i'm still laughing I'm sure Seinfeld would enjoy reading the comments too.
Pittsburghkid | Apr 16, 2011, 07:47 PM EDT
It is the family business. Royality dress up, and ride in carrages. They have no real job, but they have to look like they are working. In America we have the Vice President. They cut ribbon, and listen to boring speeches, and make boring speeches. They have to be really careful not to pick their nose, and if they flagulate, then a special assistant pretends that he flagulates and apologises to the Royality. It is a rough job, but I believe that an Englishman can do it. Prince Charles must be a real twit, because the Queen refuses to step down.
DanOLoingsigh | Apr 16, 2011, 06:20 PM EDT
Celticfour – The Brits were far more advanced in the anti-slavery movement than the USA or most of Europe – eg Abolition slave trading in British Empire 1807, Ship Masters were fined £120 per slave transported. Royal Navy begin patrols of African coast to arrest slaving vessels, by 1865, nearly 150,000 people freed by anti-slavery operations. 1815 British Government paid Portugal £750,000 and Spain £400,000 to cease trading in slaves, 1833 abolished slavery throughout the British Empire. Legally frees 700,000 in West Indies, 20,000 in Mauritius, 40,000 in South Africa. All achieved without a Civil War.
ciarrai | Apr 16, 2011, 03:15 PM EDT
It is baloney, but it's fun. It's not as funny as "Seinfeld" (especially Jerry Stiller).
Parents | Apr 16, 2011, 02:46 PM EDT
Brash and nonsense comments from Jerry. No need to put down anyone else, it's not your country and it's not your money so I say "mind your own business and get some manners". Nothing like the important things we watch and discuss - Charlie Sheen????????
Nicomax | Apr 16, 2011, 01:45 PM EDT
England can do all it wants to celebrate a marriage within their paid publicity family. Showing them off is good for tourism, so it fits the strategy. As for the rest of the world, and particularly the US, we have more important things to think about this month such as will Kobe Bryant's "fag" blast affect his royal highness in the NBA playoffs?
tomgallagher | Apr 16, 2011, 12:47 PM EDT
Right on Jerry. The world is going to hell in a handbasket and these morons are playing dress up.
Trealach | Apr 16, 2011, 12:40 PM EDT
While I'm not a Royalist by any means, I have to ask - who the hell is this IDIOT Jerry Senfield? Obviously a nobody, with an idiotic opinion only known to americans.
CitizenWhy | Apr 16, 2011, 12:37 PM EDT
Every country has its own version of poop and nonsense, except of course Ireland (Hah!).
bronxjames | Apr 16, 2011, 11:02 AM EDT
Typical response from a jealous jew .... so glad he's not on TV anymore
johhnyb | Apr 16, 2011, 10:38 AM EDT
Is anybody making Jerry Seinfeld or Patrick Robert either watch the Royal wedding or indeed pay a penny towards it? ....I thought not. So it just comes down to a simple bit of republican Brit beshing. No change there then!
bunkerhill | Apr 16, 2011, 10:32 AM EDT
I always liked Jerry and still watch his reruns. His attitude is shared by most Americans, except for wannabee princesses. Glad we're not paying for it. Do any of these people work? What a great thing they have going for them. Did any of the "commoners" share in the wealth of the "empire." Go USA. Go Jerry.
bunkerhill | Apr 16, 2011, 08:35 AM EDT
I am not a fan of the Windsors. But such an outrage? A much better theme might be the media circus and frenzy about all that. Not to mention the "NoW scandal", the phone hacking scandal in which News of the World is involved and with Hugh Grant, the actor got some wider publicity.
Realist | Apr 16, 2011, 05:49 AM EDT
Lol....somebody famous says something bad about the Royal family and IC naturally builds an 'article' around it. The British Royal family are part of the UK's identity as a country. If that is what they choose to support, then that is up to them. This 'article' and many of the comments below serve little more than to make dirt of another country's traditions. Nevertheless, it is estimated that over 2 billion people around the World will watch the wedding. I, for one, hope HRH Prince William and Miss Middleton have a wonderful day and wish them every happiness for the future. It's a pity that people like Mr Seinfeld seem unable/unwilling to extend the same common courtesy.
seanomelbourne | Apr 16, 2011, 12:19 AM EDT
To think working class brits will pay for this comical charade.
dianeejohnson | Apr 15, 2011, 11:15 PM EDT
Hurray for Jerry Seinfeld! I agree. I can't understand why we keep hearing about the upcoming wedding on American television nearly every single day.
hancock | Apr 15, 2011, 11:05 PM EDT
Kennedy wedding? You're not serious.
rufonsus | Apr 15, 2011, 06:49 PM EDT
The tradition is the ting that I like. Is it important, only to the individuals involved. I love Seinfelds show but really, this wedding is none of his business, so he should keep his feelings to himself.
jamieLM | Apr 15, 2011, 06:45 PM EDT
So what? What difference does it make to anyone not living in the UK what the Winsors do? The wedding isn't taking place in Ireland or the U.S. and no one has to watch it or even write about it since it's a non-Irish event. Didn't the other royal families in Europe (Norway, Denmark) have big weddings for their sons & daughters? Just wait and see how much money the very wealthy Seinfeld spends on his daughter's wedding when the time comes. Seinfeld makes his big fat paycheck by ridiculing things and people. He can be funny but he specializes in put-downs. I wonder what he'd say if the Winsors were Jewish and the wedding was in Israel.
Fastest | Apr 15, 2011, 06:04 PM EDT
While I'm in agreement with those who think the activities of the Royal's is not news, it's much better than seeing Charlie Sheen on every page. Of course,it's suspected Sheen might appear in the obituaries before the Royal ho-down takes place.
BGAndersson | Apr 15, 2011, 05:41 PM EDT
Oh, please, like you guys don't poop yourselves over any Kennedy wedding?
nygaapro | Apr 15, 2011, 04:58 PM EDT
