Jerry Seinfeld is right -- royal wedding a load of poop and nonsense

Good for Jerry Seinfeld when it comes to stating that the emperor has no clothes.

Or in this case that the entire Royal Wedding shebang is a dress up fantasy meaning absolutely nothing.

Speaking like a true republican Seinfeld told a British TV show that;

"Well it's a circus act, it's an absurd act," Seinfeld said (via the Daily Mail). "You know, it's a dress-up. It's a classic English thing of let's play dress-up. Let's pretend that these are special people. OK, we'll all pretend that -- that's what theater is."

Seinfeld continues, "And that's what the royal family is -- it's a huge game of pretend. These aren't special people -- its fake outfits, fake phoney hats and gowns."

He is so correct. Maybe in the days when Britain ruled the waves, there was a point to all this poop and nonsense.

Now its just fairy tale stuff for little girls and grown women to dream about the fantasy wedding they probably never had.

Stuff and nonsense indeed

Well done Seinfeld

FallsRNat, I completely agree with you that it's time for the sectarian hostilities to end and for all sides to embrace peace and move on from a bitter history. Here in the 'states, that enduring hostility to the British has expanded over the generations from the 19th century Irish Republican Brotherhood in NY to include other ethnicities, religions, lifestyles, gender roles. It's a heritage of bigotry that you can spot clearly in many postings on IC, and yes, it has victimized me (email harassment to shut me up, for ex.). Bigotry against the British?-- yes, we've probably all slipped into it, and you're right to remind us about the struggle to move on from it. None the less, I don't think that's what motivated Seinfeld's remarks. Today's NY Times' article entitled "This Tarnished Crown" concludes with a hope that the wedding will restore the affection that many still feel for the British monarchy, but with changes like an end to an Established Church and acknowledgment that the UK is a multi-racial society. I'm all for those changes, just as I will continue to call for change in the Irish-American groups I see here in the US. Even if the wedding is only symbolic of a new beginning, symbols are important for restoring civility among the factions.
eiriamach - my family traces in RA roots back to 1912 & were actively involved in 1916-21, 30-60s, we fell out of love with PIRA as we recognised that violence was never going to produce a UI. However, times changed & even the Baron has finally seen the light & renounced violence. What i don't get is all of the self pity, whingeing, anti british ideals on events that have & should be consigned to history. Here in the North nationalist, republicans, unionists & loyalists are moving to appreciate & live with each other's cultural identities. The war is over for us, what we want to build is a future for all of our children to grow up in peace, we don't need or want anything to happen that will upset this. it doesn't matter that we still live in the UK, PEACE is the greatest of god's gifts & we want to enjoy it. God bless PC Kerr he died a hero's death, protecting us from the mad people, if the irish in the 26 counties & the US finally want to join us in the promised land then please add your voices to the call to halt the armed campaign.
eiriamach you have to ask yourself which came first, being dropped by English tele or the attack on the royal family. He is just another sad American with no sense of humour.
Ya know what else besides racism is ugly, FallsRNat? Censorship, trying to shut people up. It's also counter-productive. You don't get people to stop "whining" about "victimhood" by cyber-bullying them.
seinfield & this board can't stop talking about the Royal Family cause the one thing that youse both can't bear is that for once, nobody will be listening to your whining victimhood statements, everybody will be to busy enjoying themselves. seinfield has been on an anti british rant for the last couple of weeks & cause nobody's taken any notice has slated the Royals, shame everybody knows his show is being ditched by british TV, uh, is this the real reason for his insidious comments.
abhainn, I appreciate your comment, though I am an older Irish American who finds that ugly racism at least half, probably more, among younger Irish Americans, and that is a profound disappointment. Oh no, they say, they're not anti-Black; they're just pro-"birther," or pro-KKK. Oh no, they say, they're not anti-Semitic; they're just kind of pro-Nazi, not anti-feminist, just pro-male-dominance. A bigot by any other name is still a thorn in the side of decency. You tell 'em!
BRONXJAMES: You exemplify the ugly racism I find among some older Irish Americans towards Blacks and Jews that I find so disgusting and embarrassing. Your bigotry is pure filth. TREALACH: "Seinfeld" is transmitted all over the world. PITTSBURGHKID: What does "flagulate" mean? YAKIMAK: Medicine time!
Go, Gerry!
littlejim judgemental: In the main, the British people Love and cherish their Royal Family. That is their heartfelt free choice - however hard that is for you to understand. Nobody is demanding you have respect for Titles and Honours. You are free to make up your own mind about that. I would like to know how you feel about all the titled authority figures in US society who demand your respect such as Sheriff,Judge,President,First Lady ....
If the british people see any use for the queen and her klan, then enjoy them.It is not for me to pass judgement.I am a loud mouth yank,And dont carry any respect for anyone with the title of royal.kings, queens, princes, princesses dead or alive from any country.they are outdated and should just go awayi mean the middle east royals to
"the current royal family aren't really English anyway, and haven't been for many centuries"? Lol....really, even when they were born and brought up in England? What does that make "Irish Americans" then? I guess this site will have to close down then.
Well, it takes one to know one. An actor, that is. I hope he realises he is no more special than they are, and really rather less. As for purity of race, the feller that said that is obviously racist, plus the current royal family aren't really English anyway, and haven't been for many centuries.
The Colonel of the Irish Guards, and future King of Great Britain is getting married to Catherine Middleton. The Irish will form the 'Queens Guard' on the day. Prince William may even wear his Irish Dress Uniform. Makes you proud to be Irish.
Your right Moloney the royal family wedding is such drivel. You and Seinfeld are both spot right.
yakimak..such drivel.
