A Kildare man was rushed to hospital after being forced to eat his own ear.

The 21-year-old was beaten up by a number of people in the town of Newbridge, (pictured), about thirty miles from Dublin and was also hit with a hammer and metal bar.

He was also forced to eat part of his own ear that the assailants cut off

Speaking to Kildare FM radio Police Officer John Joe O’Connell said: "Part of this man’s ear was cut off and he was actually forced to eat it, that’s how serious this is.

"If it happened in my family I’d want someone to come forward with information."

The horrific incident took place in the center of town shortly before 1.a.m.

Sick bastards...both the thugs and the disguting comments. Watch yourselves...karmas a bitch!!!
Cannot see the humor in a young man being badly beaten, having his ear sliced off, and then being forced to eat the body part that was cut off. Who knows the extent of this man's injuries and how terrified he was while this was happened. Anyone who is crazy enough to cut off your ear and make you eat it is crazy enough to kill you. My sympathies to the young man, who I hope recovers from this event, and I hope the monsters are caught and aptly punished. I would not wish such an awful thing to happen to anyone, even those who would laugh at this fellow's misfortune and pain.
Very strange comments about a violent attack? perhaps there is some latent criminal or perverted desire there. Not really funny!
"A Kildare man was rushed to hospital after being forced to eat his own ear".I take it the ear was poisonous?
Why was this man beaten? Can you hear me now?
