| Barack Obama and Mitt Romney |
From the 47 per cent gaffe to the over reaction on Libya Romney did everything but set his own candidacy on fire.
Yet with a little over five weeks to go most polls still show it as a three or four point race.
So the Mittster can still win – and here’s how.
*Focus on the economy like a laser. He has gotten dragged way off path with poor advice to engage Obama on every issue. Most people care only about one thing—their pocket book.
*The media backlash. Already I can sense that Barack Obama is going to have a much harder month in October than he did in September. The media wants a close horse race, not a blow out and they are already starting to niggle at Obama after letting him float free in September thanks to Romney’s gaffes.
*The debates. Romney has to go big and bold, no small stuff, he has to present a clear vision of where he will take the country economically and also to speak about himself in a humble and vulnerable way, let people see the real and clearly decent person within.
*Shake up Paul Ryan. Since getting on the ticket Ryan has been hopeless, making no impact. Joe Biden is the down to earth Obama ambassador to white ethnic working class in key states. Ryan can be the same if he’d stop talking about arcane budget measures.
*Work his butt off. No days off between now and the election, get Ann Romney out there as well.
Have the same sharp, refined message – it is all about the economy and I can fix it.
If he does all of the above he has a clear shot.

FastEddy...Do you include those who receive farm subsidies, bailouts when they criminally squander other people's money, votes from bought Congressmen and lifetime pensions for selling their votes to the highest bidder in that 47%?

To FastEddy and all the Romneyphiles
Romney will be the next president but not because he deserves it or received the most votes. The so-called "liberal media is generally ignoring the voter fraud that is taking place all over America. The Koch Bros. and other billionaires have poured in excess of $500 million dollars into this campaign and they want a return on their investment. Rest assured they will get it especially with the electronic voting being in the possession of corporate America. These people would have you believe that the same companies who make ATM's which give you receipts cannot produce a voting machine which gives you a paper receipt for your vote. Americans will get what they deserve; although it will be Mitt Romney and not a pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow. Most Americans want to think they are smart but would rather watch DWTS than pay attention to the political process.

My take on the debate tonight. 1. Romney is definitely still in it but I am not expecting a big shift in the polls yet. 2. Romney turned red and grimaced every time he listened to one of Obama's clarifications of a Romney policy but Mr. Cool just gave his great big grin while listening to one of Romney's inventions. 3. We learned lots of new things that may upset Romney's base: a. he will not do a 20% tax cut if it would increase the deficit and since he can't cover it with eliminating every deduction I guess that means a lower cut. b. Romney will replace National Obamacare with National Romneycare. c. Romney likes a lot of what is in Dodd-Frank but thinks that some of the rules were too VAGUE and that it should have broken up the big banks. d. He will not reduce national funding for education. 4. Jim Lehrer may no longer be up to riding herd on debates. 5. Romney has still not explained how VooDoo will work if his tax cut does not cut the amount of tax paid by the rich but just trades their deductions for a lower rate. No extra money to create new jobs?

Obama is a good campaigner but not a good President. The economy is Romneys only chance at this stage.

Jamthecat called it. Robme's only hope is stealing the election. Ohio and Florida are gone. Both are not just going for Obama but both states are also going for their Democratic Senator and both are looking to have Democratic State Houses.
It's not just Robme who is in trouble. The GOP is in trouble in Ohio and Florida.

Obamas had a good week? civerup of libyan assissinations video or incompetence, second border guard murdered by mexican drug lords supplied guns by the fast and furious scheme again covered up, gas over 4.25 a gallon, unemployment over 8%, and add JoeBiden telling us the middle class has been buried for the last 4 years. Only on Irish Central can people be so delusional to ignore the state of the Obama presidency.

Patrick, you are right. Also, Mitt should stand firm, but not snarky (one of Obama's prblems). e.g. BO: I saved General Motors and all those jobs that went with it. MITT: Yes, but your way helped destroy many pension plans that invested in GM bonds, thinking that they were safe, as well as many car dealers, especially those that did not meet your political profile.

Obama has one massive challenge in the debate to-night and that is to figure out Romney's position on the issues as it is to-night.Romney has recalled the old idiom "you can't hit a moving target",so he never holds the same position on ANYTHING for very long.

The only way Romney will win this election is trhough voter fraud. Even if he keeps his mouth shut, which is impossible for a politician running for office, he'll still blow it with all the baggage he and Ryan bring to the race. However, the GOP is going full guns out trying to suppress votes by Democrats and stuff in extra votes for themselves, like they did in 200 and 2004 and tried to do in 2008.

How naive to expect any insight into the diplomatic and security activity, based on news accounts.
Moreover, as I have been saying for at least the past 6 months, the USA domestic economy will be a very low priority once the election is over.
If RR takes office, we will continue our 60-year series of Permanent (undeclared) Wars". Only this time, Iraq and Afghanistan will look like bar room brawls.

" From the 47 per cent gaffe to the over reaction on Libya ..." Starting out by trying to make President Romney look bad will not score here. 1) the 47% of Americans who receive some kind of subsidies is Not A Gaff, 2) President Romney was well within bounds to call that attack by terrorists in Libya what it was: An Attack By Terrorists on Our US Embassy, an overt act of War. The rest of your little spew is hardly worthy of journalism and certainly not worth the electronic ink.
