An earthquake aftershock was felt here at our office in New York City about a half hour ago.
Apparently an earthquake hit Richmond Virginia, registering 5.9 on the Richter scale and the shocks were felt all the way to New York.
Several of us here in Irishcentral's office felt a shaking but I personally thought it was some construction work.
We are expecting Hurricane Irene this weekend.
Perhaps it's the end times!

The 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the area this afternoon poses a risk of aftershocks, according to the US Geological Survey. Its center was in the State of Virgina, about 90 miles south of Washington DC. The Pentagon was evacuated. Planes scheduled to leave NYC are grounded. Areas from Toronto, Canada south to Georgia and west to Chicago felt the shock. In the NY-NJ area, it is the first quake to do damage since 1927. There was also a 5.3-magnitude earthquake felt from southern Colorado to New Mexico at 1:00 PM (Mountain Time?). Rock slides in the mountains and some damage to homes resulted. And Hurricane Irene is scheduled to hit here late in the weekend. Is Mother Earth trying to shake us off and wash us away?

As someone who knows a thing or two about hurricanes, I expect the Outer Banks to get brushed, and maybe Long Island. South Carolina should be OK, and Savannah's extraordinary history of avoiding hurricanes will continue. It would be interesting to see Manhattan getting dumped on by a Cat 3 or better, but ain't gonna happen this time.
