Donald Trump can become president if he can defeat Mitt Romney in New Hampshire

Donald Trump may be blessed in two ways if he decides to run in 2012. First the current incumbent is not scaring anyone away and secondly the caliber of opponents within the Republican Primary field is hardly stellar.

Obama's strange refusal to get the birth certificate issue out of the way addresses his major problem, he is incredibly smart, intelligent and well meant, but he lacks any sense of how issues can play emotionally with people.

Its not enough to be right, you have to prove you are right. When a recent poll showed only 38 per cent firmly believed Obama was born in the U.S. his handlers finally threw in the towel.

What took them so long?

As for Trump's opponents, with the exception of Mitt Romney they are a sad lot. There are thrice married men, Gingrich and Giuliani if he decides to run, a washed up Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee who is very unlikely to run anyway, a reality show star Sarah Palin who has wilted recently in the spotlight and a bunch of nobodies called Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum.

With his incredible antenna for media attention, Trump can easily outmaneuver all but Romney who remains the deserved front runner.

But Romney is not popular in New Hampshire among Republicans. They remember him as the liberal Republican governor of the neighboring state of Massachusetts.

Pretty much anything from Massachusetts is poison to New Hampshire voters.

If Trump can pull of a shock win in New Hampshire I believe he can knock Romney out and be on target for the nomination.
A Trump /Obama race would be full of fire and brimstone but the Donald has a massive media presence to call on. He is also very good on the medium and keeps on message no matter what is thrown at him.

This could get very interesting.

President Trump? what odds on President Obama would you have gotten at this stage before the 2008 race, 50/1?

Trump could conceivably do it.

American Reader and abhainn have it right. Trump is a joke who can't take a joke. Check him out on youtube as Seth Meyers is roasting him. He clearly shows that he's so thin-skinned he'd flame out at the first campaign criticism he received. That's assuming that he ever actually meant to run in the first place, which is highly unlikely.
Trump is twice the joke that Bush was, and that's really saying something.
Not after the President b#@*h slapped him and took down Bin Laden in the same weekend.
Why not, the intellegence level of the country hasn't risen markedly. Bush got elected, how dumb was that?
"The-Donald" can be a bit of a natter sometimes, but he is no fool, that's for sure, but whether he would make it to the White-House is not predictable as it depends entirely on the US electorate, but should that happen it would not be a disaster at all, The-Donald is a street smart fellow and being street-smart is more acceptable and understandable to the electorate, and thus closer to the public in general than being academical candidate should he go for it and win then the White-House will of course be renamed "The-Donald House" and he will no doubt be inside for two terms.
Why doesn't Donald get a state of the art hair transplant with all his money. That combover is v-e-r-y un-presidential : )
I swear to my God that if the Donald becomes president, or even a nominee, I'm moving home to Ireland.
Trump pulls out his ego and publicity-driven 'horse and pony' show nearly every presidental election, has no defined platform that anyone takes seriously, and then fades into the wordwork as election time draws nearer in true Tea Party style. A time waster.
To insure that Obama is reelected in 2012, let The Donald sweep the Republican primaries and causcuses! As far as Romney's "fiscal know-how," a State is a helluva long way from the Federal Government.
I thought "The States" had hit rock bottom, with Bush! Please not Trump. It just goes to show one doesn't need to be INTELLIGENT to make a lot of money; but President? NO! Please, please NO!!
Hey Susanna how about nominating and electing a Roman Catholic for president? With all that idolatry stuff plus blind obedience to the pope the country will become really ruled by the pope. p.s. Haven't we as a country progressed beyond this religious test? I'm not a Mormon but is makes me damned angry when I hear this ignorant crap coming from some.
I object to the bigoted, ill-informed comments by Susanna. Any ignorant bigot can pretend to knowledge; the Constitution makes clear that his private devotion is not a determining factor in whether he should be President. Look at his record. This is certainly a more difficult inquiry and calls for a modicum of intelligence unavailable to simple minded bigots. He has the strongest fiscal conservative credentials available. He resolved a $1.3 billion budget gap he inherited as a young governor without raising income tax rates and while getting rid of the death tax. He took the governor's office amid a budget crisis that lowered the state's credit rating which he soon restored. Our credit rating as a nation is about to be downgraded with disastrous consequences, and we need someone with financial experience at the helm. And if you're interested in his intangible qualifications, he is a devoted husband and father, one of the few who's only been married once and entirely faithful. He vetoed bills for cloning, stem-cell research, and day after pills. He fought gay marriage in his state when the supreme court imposed it.
That's a bit like saying the Pittsburgh Pirates will win the NL pennant if they take two out of three in their next series with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Mitt Romney won't have a chance of ever being the President in this country. If you are educated as to what a true Mormon is, there is no doubt that it is a cult. This is why America rejected the "Ken doll" in the last election. An atheist would have a better chance than a Mormon.
God forbid if this (especially)pompous ass gets the Republican nomination. I want to see Obama defeated in 2012. Trump, along with Palin, would be Obama's dream opponents - ala McGovern in 1972.
