Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin

Dick Cheney really has some nerve stating that Sarah Palin was not qualified to be Vice President of the United States.

This former VP will go down in history as one of the worst- ever and the man who doomed the Bush presidency to failure.

When he left office Cheney had approval ratings of 13 per cent, unparalleled in American history.

This is the man who can excoriate Sarah Palin who even now has massive support from sections of the Republican Party?

Remember Ahmad Chalabi? That’s the Iraqi politician from Saddam Hussein’s time who convinced Cheney and his cohort that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and led Cheney and Co. down the path to the most destructive war of the modern era.

His agent nicknamed “Curveball” spun a cock and bull story to Cheney about Saddam’s “mobile biological weapons” labs that the war mongering Cheney and Bush and British leader Tony Blair snapped up as gospel truth.

Colin Powell even used the “evidence” at the UN, exposing the US to subsequent ridicule.

The CIA had insisted that Saddam had no links with Al Qaeda and there was no connection to 9/11. Cheney insisted otherwise.

Here are Cheney’s statements at the time.

“January 30, 2003: "His regime aids and protects terrorists, including members of Al Qaeda. He could decide secretly to provide weapons of mass destruction to terrorists for use against us."

March 16, 2003: "We know that he has a long-standing relationship with various terrorist groups, including the Al Qaeda organization."

September 14, 2003: "We learned more and more that there was a relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda that stretched back through most of the decade of the '90s, that it involved training, for example, on biological weapons and chemical weapons."

Brings back pleasant memories now doesn’t it?

Here is his take on Saddam and his “nuclear weapons” search.

"March 19, 2002: "We know they are pursuing nuclear weapons."

"March 24, 2002: "He is actively pursuing nuclear weapons."

"May 19, 2002: "We know he's got chemical and biological...we know he's working on nuclear."

The colossal blunder that led us into Iraq and the loss of thousands of American lives and billions in cost is directly linked to Cheney’s war dancing.

Then there are his ties to Halliburton who made billions of that war, his insistence in torturing suspects and spying in Americans, his influence on Bush’s disastrous economic policies.

Could Sarah Palin have done any worse? I really don’t think so.

She’d have a very low bar to jump over that’s for sure.

This is so entertaining! The repulsive party has taken another leap backward. Keep up the good work, Obama will win!!!!
I will forever be grateful that Sarah Palin was not elected to the Vice-Presidency. I'm sorry, but she and her family are classless trash. The US is already becoming a laughing stock...she would have hastened the process. As for Dick Cheney...he's done nothing since he's been in office, as far as I can tell, so he has no room to talk about anyone.
Coming off of the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression, I would think that Cheney would keep his trap shut.
I lived in a remote area of Alaska for five years.Population 600 and to put it mildly,Sarah Palin was not well liked by the residents of that area. She did nothing to help ease the economic strain and the high cost of living in her state. As most politicians, she talks a good game but drops the ball when and where it counts the most. She was considered a media hound and more concerned with milking every drop of publicity she could.her biggest boost came from the media hype over her daughter having a baby out of wedlock. She says really stupid things and dose not seem to be very intelligent much of the time.Is this the kind of person we want in our government? Don't we already have enough idiots and media hounds there already? When will Americans wake up and vote for the best person for the job and not for their color, sex, religion or the press releases.Follow their political records, their moral behavior and ignore what they are saying in the speeches that their publicists write for them and really listen and look in their eyes and notice their body language when they speak or being interviewed. Then make your decision. We can make a difference in our government!
Chaney is an exposed person for who he is and really was. He has a nerve critizing Sara Palin, the worst she would have done would have been better than Chaney did. She is better at handling a gun also. She never shot her friends, not that I heard. Patrick, I am getting to like IC since you come out with common sense reporting. This is from a very conservative reader. Thanks
Really ! An inept exhibitionist, and soft version of Ann Coulter who helps republicans get their rocks off, and a five time deferred vice president to avoid Vietnam, who sent so many young people into harms way, and never returned home. He continues to stay in Washington to keep the lid on all that happened. He is a coward, and as a veteran, I will despise this man to the grave. Why are they even on this site ?
Patricians, like the Bushes, hire talented people like Jim Baker and Dick Chaney, who agree with them on the big picture: "It's about the oil," to handle the grimy details, and "run things" for 'em. Wars, revolutions, coups, interventions, renditions, and all that kinda stuff are handled by people who handle that sorta stuff. The difference between Chaney and Pailn, besides knowing there are two Koreas, is as great as that between Edgar Bergin and Charlie McCarthy. Chaney is a vulture, Palin merely a parrot. Chaney was also one of the greatest ventriloquists ever, for no one saw his lips move whenever George W spoke! The U.S. needs Dick Chaneys, who will simply and unequivocally tell the folks in little countries "Give us your oil, or we'll take it!"
This should be a warning to the voters in 2012 all of Cheney and company waiting in the wings to send Romney down the same path of War and profits for the Republicans,Do we ever Learn?
The old codger was more devious than Palin, and I doubt she could have pulled off a meeting with the top energy producers in the US a couple of months after he got into office and promised them endless oil and gas leases in Iraq once we invaded them and cleared the table. A neocon dream that almost came true. A nightmare for those families who had to bury their loved ones.
I don't see the relevance of this to Ireland, but any article that reminds us of the sinister mediocrity of the chickenhawk Cheney is OK with me.
Patrick. This is interesting coming from you! Are you, and is this community aware, that Romney's foreign policy advisers are mostly Bush era second-rank baby Neocons screw-ups like Dan Senor? Everyone here should read "Imperial Life in the Emerald City"
How is this old news of IRISH interest?
One was a immoral political snake; the other an inept opportunist. American history would have been better served without either one.
Mr. Cheney's resume prior to being selected as VP shows far more experience at the federal and executive level than Palin's brief time as Governor. That the man is devious and diabolical is quite another issue. Who really cares what Cheney or his family members have to say. "The Dick" and his president are responsible for our on-going financial crises.
The worst? Biden now taking that lead ...
