Gay Irish senator David Norris is now in the cross hairs of the Westboro Baptist Church run by fanatic minister Fred Phelps which pickets US soldiers funerals and claims 'God hates fags' on their website.
Norris made the revelation on Irish radio today.
Norris, is favorite to become Ireland's president but now faces a major challenge after a controversial interview with him from ten years ago about his views on sexuality was broadcast.
He has aroused the ire of the Westboro group because he obtained gay civil rights in Ireland and would be the first gay elected president in Europe.
Fred Phelps, head of the church has previously ranted about Norris and others.
He wrote;
“ I …warned America about Ireland’s sad, sick, sodomite culture and fag Irish Senator David Norris’s case before the European Court of Human (i.e., Fag) Rights. (Incidentally, the “Openly-Gay” fag Irish Senator Norris was represented before that Strasbourg European Fag Court, by the famous Dyke-Enabler and Irish President, Mary Robinson.) We warned that WBC has had lots of experience with Ireland’s militant sodomite citizenry, steeped for many decades in ignorant, blind, idolatrous Catholicism, belching out their vile fagspeak, slander, and blasphemy against God and His Word – cursing WBC members as guests on Dublin talk-radio shows. Remember, Martin Luther said Catholic churches, seminaries and monasteries are nothing but sodomite whorehouses filled with unnatural brute beasts and devils. We warned that the very leprechauns of Ireland are likely to be fags!”
Phelps’ attack on former president Mary Robinson and Norris, drew harsh criticism in Ireland.

zyxwvutsrqponml — David Norris has a worthy and triumphant record of performing wonderful work on behalf of Ireland and his people, which is why he is the leading candidate for the Irish presidency, and why he commands so much respect in that country — more, I bet, than you ever did for Ireland and her people.

Why is Norris even giving these idiots a platform in the Irish political discourse? He must think it will generate sympathy for him and support for his candidacy. It will, but it also just gives them more publicity which is what they want.
Norris's homosexuality isn't a valid reason to oppose his becoming President; his extreme lack of nationalist ideals, the kind that form the very basis for the RoI's existence, are a valid reason to oppose him.

Note to self- if I ever want to go completely insane without restraint move to the United States and register myself as a church.
It's fun, fun, fun from there.

Norris should wear the scorn of those morons like a badge of honour.

Phelps is a bit to far to the right of Hannity even for Fox, maybe Sarah could take him under her sanctimonious (right) wing

I'm sure that Fred and his small group of followers aren't going to go to Ireland to protest gay folks. You are all quite safe. He is pretty much just a religious supremacist bomb thrower with very few followers. Ignore him. It irritates homophobic crazy people (AKA "Republicans" in the States).

I've just googled the internet on news on a worldwide or Ireland basis searching for attacks by Fred Phelps on former President Mary Robinson and David Norris. Nothing came up at all. I would like to know from the writer of the report above the source of the information. As far as I can see the last sentence making this allegation is bogus, but I am prepared to be proven wrong.

So Phelp's attacks on former President Mary Robinson and Norris drew harsh criticism in Ireland? That's the first I heard of this and I am usually up to date on the news. What newspapers, TV and radio stations carried this news? But I must say this attack by Phelps is vile in content and language. God does not hate homosexuals - He loves sinners, as we all are, but He hates our sins. However there is a lot of truth in his allegations on RCC seminaries and the manner in which the RCC protected paedophiles who raped and sexually molested children, primarily boys, but failed to protect the victims is absolutely true. Now, as I thought would happen, the activities of these criminals extended to the RCC missions in Africa. Where next? Asia and South America? As for Mr. Phelps hero Martin Luther - he was a Roman Catholic and held on to most of the doctrines of the RCC, but what he said was probably true. David Norris may have even more trouble due to allegations that he made inappropriate comments to an Irish journalist some years ago. The journalist says she has a tape recoring of an interview on which she based her article. If this is so then David Norris will not be elected as President of Ireland. I will make no judgement on it either way until I see the evidence.
