CNN’s Piers Morgan speaks the truth to Americans on gun control

I have never been much of a fan of Piers Morgan, the CNN host who comes from a British tabloid tradition, but I am now.

Morgan, reflecting the incredulity of non-Americans worldwide, has spoke out forthrightly and clearly on the madness of the lack of gun control laws in America.

Other commentators, afraid perhaps of the mighty muscle of the NRA, have hedged or pulled their punches on this issue even after the massacre of the innocents in Newtown.

Not Morgan, who is outspoken to begin with, and now he is being targeted by NRA members who want him deported.

They have gathered about 60,000 signatures for their petition, which states: “British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.”

Morgan’s crime was to make statements like this: "Why on Earth would you want more guns in schools after what's happened today?"

He has called the argument for more guns stupid, "This is exactly the argument that I have been hearing ever since I joined CNN," he noted. "The argument I keep hearing is 'well if everybody else was armed, it wouldn't happen.' It's a load of total hogwash!"

Sometimes it takes an outsider to tell the truth in any society and Morgan is clearly doing this here.

Over Christmas a madman shot two firemen dead in upstate New York, a man who had already murdered and yet was able to easily obtain weapons.

When will the madness stop?

As long as hosts like Piers Morgan speak out there is a possibility. But if Americans want to act like ostriches on the gun issue we can only hope there is not another savage school shooting in our near future.

Wiz lad!! that would depend on who is "proscribing" the organisation. Terorism comes ion many forms and most of them wear uniforms. The U.S. or Britain or Russia may proscribe organisations I will make a decision based on conscience as to whom is the terrorist and whom is not. I do not live by your extreme right agenda. I do not condone the murder of thousands of women and children by the U.S. using terrorist like Ollie North.That's your game not mine

wizardofoz, who is "macho man"??? Perhaps you mean to refer to eiria*mach*, an Irish word, not Spanish? Pardon me for ignoring you, but perhaps you can understand why I do not recognize "machoman" and "lad" as aimed at me (if they were) or any of the other silly assumptions you toss around about other posters. I'm familiar with the Spanish-derived word "macho," generally defined as "showing aggressive pride in one's masculinity: 'the big macho tough guy'." I don't play that game, not only because I'm female, but really because, as evident in your diatribes below, it's a game full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. You have not FOCUSED on a single fact that refutes ANYTHING seanomelb wrote. Your blathering is irrational, unfocused, laden with insults galore, venom-spewing and self-serving, in short, "macho." Hay, macho-man. Its now a 'little later', your turn, please consider. Its a straight forward simple question with NO strings attached so no wiggling room, (as if) please answer the question: "Do you support a proscribed terrorists organization the right to hold onto illegal arms while at the same time demanding the vast majority of the innocent population of good law abiding Americans having legally held arms should hand them over to a government which its self is armed to the teeth.?" What's your simple answer? YES! terrorists should hold onto their illegal arms and YES! all good law-abiding American citizens should be disarmed. It don't require a Doctorate on Social Order or a Masters on Social Sciences to come up with a truthful answer. So, what's yours? I know you will never answer. That's what this argument (for it is not a debate, we are not exchanging views here) is all about, ILLEGAL vis-a vis LEGAL and you bring NOTHING new to this argument. The only reason you stick your petulant nose into it is because you can clearly see dumbo is beaten hands down. The problem you now have inherited is you have nothing zilch new to offer. YOU are now hoist with your own petard! You're a cardboard cut out an empty phoney not one word on illegally held terrorists weaponry. The truth is, the wiz instantly twists any facts or reasoning that anyone sends in his direction into garbage to fuel his fury. 'Ain't no reasoning with that attitude; it's a brick wall! Gun control has certainly been used to suppress independence movements, in South Africa, in Ireland, in every nation that came out from under the imperialist yoke. But where is that risk in 21st century USA? And every uprising in the cause of freedom is simply "terrorism" to someone so blinded by ideology that he sees coercion and brute force by right-wing "patriots" as the only path to law and order. But the issue of gun control for public safety won't go away so easily, and the wiz has added only fanaticism to that debate.
