Cardinal Timothy Dolan as Pope not likely according to Paddy Power bookmakers who quote 80/1

Cardinal Timothy Dolan

Timothy Dolan as pope is simply not going to happen according to Paddy Power bookmakers in Ireland.

Since his rock star appearance in Rome to receive his red hat there has been widespread speculation in the media that Dolan could be the next pontiff.

A leading Rome newspaper has stated that Dolan is now among the 'papabile' --- those handful who could well end up pope.

Surprisingly, however, he's not even the American favorite for the job.

Paddy Power, Ireland's leading bookmaking chain has Dolan at 80/1 to be pope, astonishing odds .

Cardinal Raymond Burke formerly of St. Louis, now of the Vatican, is only 20/1 while fellow US curia member Cardinal William Levada of San Francisco is 25/1

The field is headed by Cardinal Frances Arinze of Nigeria at 7/4 with Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana next at 2/1.

An African pope is clearly the way Paddy Power is thinking,

Paddy Power isn't given to posting long odds and losing me thinks.

So Dolan as Pope looks like a long shot.

We may be winding down to the end times, but IrishSpring444 shows that the Irish imagination is not likely to suffer any eclipse. IrelandNorth, so their scarlet is orange under intense light? I've seen cardinals (I mean the birds) up close under bright sunlight. Their feathers stay true to color. The RCC cardinals are birds of a different feather.

Well, I'm thinking Paddy Power didn't call the shots on Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger who was a long shot to become Pope Benedict XVI! Naw, folks, the last pope in Irish Saint Malachy's Prophecy of the Popes who will reign at the Second Coming of Christ will of course be an Irishman. His name is Archbishop Diarmuid Martin ... whose name means "The Warrior Without Enemies." Watch as Cardinal Sean Brady steps down this year and Archbishop Martin becomes the Primate of All Ireland on 11-11-2012, on the Feast Day of his namesake, St. Martin of Tours (alleged uncle of St. Patrick). Martin shall then be successor not only of St. Patrick, but of St. Malachy as well. Indeed, he shall take the name Petrus Romanus, but not before the arrival of a total solar eclipse on the Feast of St. Brice, and not before the arrival of a penumbral eclipse on the vigil of St. Brendan of Birr. eiriamach! The light intensity probably gives the scarlet an orange hue, a case of pastel enlightemnment or illumination, perhaps? Or if youre right, that would make him the first Orange Cardinal to become Pope. If so, those Mayan dudes in Sth. America were right after all. We live in end times. Paisley for Pope is what I say. I guess Paddy Power has seen an uptick in the church's recolonization of Africa. Maybe the RCC believes having an African Pope could speed up the rate converts there. I guess the convert pickings are slimmer in the US and Ireland.

In the photo above and news photos published over the weekend, the cardinals' new clothes seem orange, rather than the 'cardinal red' of tradition. Their deep scarlet color used to symbolize their willingness to shed blood in defense of the faith. The new orange makes them look anemic.
