Bill O'Reilly and Lou Dobbs praise Arizona immigration bill
By: Patrick Roberts | Published Thursday, June 17, 2010, 6:57 PM | Updated Friday, September 9, 2011, 9:40 PM

Lou Dobbs is the voice that has been missing these past few months as immigration has exploded as an issue in American politics once again.
So a hearty welcome back for Lou who popped up on the
Bill O'Reilly Show to give his take on the
Arizona law that has caused such ructions.
Did
Lou Dobbs defend or defame the Arizona law?
I won't keep you in suspense-- he played utterly true to form.
That was hardly surprising but you never know these days.
With rumors of a senate run in
New Jersey in 2014 Dobbs has been more constrained on this issue in recent times.
O'Reilly in his usual expert way drew him out, pointing out that Bush did no more to seal the borders than
Obama is doing. O'Reilly, of course, supports the Arizona bill
For the record here is what Dobbs said in relation to the Arizona law;
"Arizona has every right to take these steps, particularly where this government is quite conscious, this administration, is refusing to enforce immigration law either internally or at the border.
“It’s entirely defensible and it will withstand any challenge by the justice department or by any group that wants to,” he said.
It’s actually surprising that Dobbs has not been front and center on
Fox News on this issue or indeed that he does not have his own show.
All of which leads me to believe that Dobbs may actually be serious about a political run.
Frank Lautenberg will be almost certainly out of the frame in the next senate election in 2014 unless he pulls a Strom Thurmond.
Watch this space.

The "probable cause" provisions in the Arizona law are so nit-pickety that they amount to whatever the police officer decides is suspicious-looking. The most likely probable cause will be a Mexican-looking appearance, followed by a more plausible explanation which the officer invents after the fact.
irishwxman | May 18, 2010, 12:36 PM EDT
I would confront him any day of the week and twice on Sunday. He doesn't scare me. I'm not member of his parish, so he really can't do diddly squat to me anyway.
ritmomente | May 17, 2010, 09:38 AM EDT
irishwxman, I'd like to see you confront Cardinal Mahoney and see who gets excommunicated.
DennisQ | May 17, 2010, 01:37 AM EDT
These absurdly restrictive laws create a permanent underclass not as a side effect, but as the actual intended effect. It's oppression of the poor, a sin the Church denounces as "crying to heaven for vengeance."
irishwxman | May 16, 2010, 06:30 PM EDT
Dennis..."So called 'Illegal Aliens'"? Do you not understand the immigration laws? When you enter this country "illegally", you are considered an "Illegal alien". No ifs, ands, or buts. Cardinal Mahoney should be excommunicated from the church. The worsd liberal and catholic are not synonymous.
allentown | May 16, 2010, 11:57 AM EDT
..It's exploitation of the poor, and the Catholic Church rightly condemns such mean-spirited policies. Viva Cardenal<< Follow the money. Cardinal Mahoney's Los Angeles diocses owes $ 600,000,000 for his priests sexual abuses. Bless those hispanic donations.
DennisQ | May 16, 2010, 01:20 AM EDT
We don't want to get rid of so-called "illegal aliens." We want to keep them doing the grunt work they do, and we don't want them organizing labor unions. The real purpose of absurdly restrictive immigration laws is to create a permanent underclass. It's exploitation of the poor, and the Catholic Church rightly condemns such mean-spirited policies. Viva Cardenal Mahoney!
allentown | May 15, 2010, 07:57 PM EDT
>> Fix the broken law so we can weed out the criminals from those that are looking for a line to join to get citizenship or a guest worker visa << There is no law to fix. If you are an illegal alien--------you leave the country. We already have a guest worker program that is titled H2A. Read it.
DennisQ | May 15, 2010, 05:28 AM EDT
It's entirely up to you how seriously you take the teachings of the Catholic Church, which retains significant moral authority even in secular America. Oppression of the poor - the unstated but actual purpose of America's absurdly restrictive immigration laws - is one of the sins which the Church teaches "cries out to Heaven for vengeance."
DennisQ | May 15, 2010, 05:08 AM EDT
The immigration laws are effective for their actual purpose, which is to create a permanent underclass and to head off any possibility of a labor movement among so-called "illegals." We've always had immigration; and always needed hard-working immigrants. What's different today is that the absurd restrictions oppress the poor, and are INTENDED to oppress the poor. The Catholic Church gets this one right.
IrishAndProud | May 15, 2010, 04:40 AM EDT
Dennis, America's immigration laws are NOT 'absurdly restrictive;' they are absurdly LAX. And now, finally -- and in accordance with the vast and growing American majority -- Arizona has enacted a law which merely mirrors already-existing federal law, but which the feds won't enforce. Mahoney -- and YOU, Dennis -- are both WRONG on this. Viva Arizona!!!
grimchieftain | May 15, 2010, 12:51 AM EDT
I don't see the big deal here; if you're in the U.S. legally then there will not be a problem. If you're here illegally, then State governments can take measures to remove you. This isn't something new...every country has some sort of immigration laws in place, not much different than Arizona's.
DennisQ | May 15, 2010, 12:34 AM EDT
No, I don't think my remarks are falling on deaf ears. This is an important venue to oppose America's absurdly restrictive immigration laws. The purpose of these laws isn't to protect Americans; they are there to create a permanent underclass of so-called "illegals." The Catholic Church gets one right - these laws exist to oppress the poor. Viva Cardenal Mahoney!
irishwxman | May 14, 2010, 11:53 PM EDT
Dennis...go spew your liberal garbage someplace else. It is falling on deaf ears here. Its propaganda and everyone with a brain knows your are telling non-truths. You want to know why we want to crack down on immigration?? Does 9-11 ring any bells??
DennisQ | May 14, 2010, 07:30 PM EDT
The nation-state does not mean what it did in the 19th Century - or indeed in the 20th Century. Absurdly restrictive immigration laws impede workers' ability to sell their labor at a market price. It's easily seen why so-called "conservatives" want to keep a permanent underclass. They want the fruits of other people's labor, but they don't want to PAY for it.
irishwxman | May 14, 2010, 05:42 PM EDT
Nobody at Irish Central has read this law. If it cracks down on illegal immigration they are staunchly against it. they are all bleeding heart liberal socialists on this webpage.
rcrdskpr@aol.com | May 14, 2010, 05:16 PM EDT
it must be freezing across the styx, an article on ic where o'reilly of fox isn't raked over the coals.
Dompedro | May 14, 2010, 01:45 PM EDT
has anyone at Irish Central read the Arizona law? the Attorney General of the United States admitted yesterday before a Congressional committee that he had not done so
jflanagan | May 14, 2010, 10:40 AM EDT
The Federal Government under this administration and the previous (where's that change we were going to get?) don't enforce the laws and protect the lives and property of Arizona's citizens. So Arizona, as a responsible government doing its sworn duty, has to enact a law to do what the Feds refuse to do for them. It is the Federal Government breaking its own laws and Arizona keeping the law.
jflanagan | May 14, 2010, 10:37 AM EDT
Mexico is the villain that treats its citizens like sub humans and slaves, making them risk life and limb to find a better life. Why don't you do some real good and report on the corruption in Mexico and maybe bring about reform and freedom for the Mexican people. Oh, I forgot, the reporters at Irish Central love socialism, being on the dole and having government caused downtrodden to write about.
JimThompson | May 14, 2010, 10:32 AM EDT
Tis a shame that a State has to take steps to control illegal entry because the Federal Goverment will not.

Jan Brewer did what is Good For Arizona! Who will advocate for the Hispanic Women..Mothers and their Daughters being brutally beaten and RAPED daily in these "Drop Houses" in our nice neighborhoods? Where is the Public Outrage? Where is Al SHarpton, La Raza and all the Open Borders Crowd? Where are the so called Women's groups...while these women are being raped by Coyotes? Shame on all of you...this is not about Race...that's an excuse to protest....and Boycott Arizona!
ritmomente | May 14, 2010, 09:59 AM EDT
Invaders, IrishandProud? Do you think this is a crusade for these people? Sure there are definitely criminals amongst these people looking for a decent wage. They need to be deported. Those who want to become citizens or guest workers are being blocked by a stagnant government.
IrishAndProud | May 14, 2010, 06:11 AM EDT
btw Dennis...Gov. Brewer did herself much good by signing this law, because her approval rate shot up SIXTEEN POINTS virtually overnight, after doing so...and whatever her motives for signing it she obviously knew the Arizona people wanted it. Give it up, Dennis...you're losing this issue, big time. The people don't want illegals, PERIOD. Not in Arizona, not in true-blue Massachussetts, and not anywhere in between, either.
IrishAndProud | May 14, 2010, 06:08 AM EDT
No, Dennis...you mean fortunately for LIBERALISM, which is certainly NOT 'all of us.' That's the only way liberalism can be enforced...by overruling and governing against the will of the majority, largely through unelected courts and an unresponsive Congress (which is about to be FLUSHED, come November). Of course, if the polls ever showed what YOU wanted, Dennis (which they don't), then of course they'd be 'legit,' right?
DennisQ | May 14, 2010, 05:38 AM EDT
Fortunately for all of us, government policy is not set by opinion polls which are subject to all kinds of gimmickry and manipulation. People aren't told the truth about immigration - that it increases America's wealth; it does not detract from it. Survey results like the ones you're quoting are the result of statistical flim-flammery.
irishwxman | May 14, 2010, 02:15 AM EDT
DennisQ, "Americans aren't interested in deporting undocumented immigrants - far from it!" Ummm..what color is the sky on your planet? over 66% of Americans polled agree with the new law, and over 70% want to crack down on illegal immigration. I don't know where you get your info, but you are well beyond incorrect. You are in Wonderland with Alice and the white rabbit.
DennisQ | May 14, 2010, 01:30 AM EDT
O'Reilly and Dobbs aren't politicians; they're not even journalists. They are entertainers. People tune into them for amusement, not for advice on public policy. Americans aren't interested in deporting undocumented immigrants - far from it! Hard-working, good-hearted people are welcome here. The reason for the Arizona law is that Gov. Brewer - who was NOT elected, by the way - was afraid Sheriff Joe Arpaio would enter the race.
MrSinatra | May 13, 2010, 09:27 PM EDT
Mr.Roberts,
why do you sound like you're against this law? tell me, can i swim to ireland, sneak in, and then claim every gov't goodie in the world, and expect ireland to welcome me with a warm embrace?
we have a real problem in america, and there is NO CRIME in securing the border. just ask mexico about THEIR southern border. they look like orwell's 1984 by contrast.
IrishAndProud | May 13, 2010, 02:50 PM EDT
So once again, DennisQ equates ANY dealing with the problem of illegal aliens as 'snubbing Hispanics.' So what are you saying, Dennis? Do NOTHING about a 12-million-strong invasion of the USA (and all the crime and $$-drain it brings) because we don't want to 'offend' a politically-correct minority of people? (And what do you mean New England Italians are 'all Republican'?) Talk about stereotyping!
ritmomente | May 13, 2010, 02:36 PM EDT
Too much time is spent trying to prosecute Navy Seals who save countless American lives while risking their own, and then we Mirandize the would-be Times Square bomber. With 12,000,000 people undocumented, how will they find the next would-be terrorist? Fix the broken law so we can weed out the criminals from those that are looking for a line to join to get citizenship or a guest worker visa.
irishwxman | May 13, 2010, 12:56 PM EDT
Of course they praise it. There is nothing wrong with it. It actually makes it ILLEGAL to be an ILLEGAL immigrant. DUH!
RiverAveGuy | May 13, 2010, 12:27 PM EDT
Obama is a Marxist
Monsoonman | May 13, 2010, 09:40 AM EDT
Of course obamas attorneys are very busy prosecuting the nine people who were indicted Wednesday on federal charges of accessing President Barack Obama's student loan records. Anybody care to comment why obamas school records are entirely sealed to the public? I am just wondering.
ritmomente | May 13, 2010, 08:58 AM EDT
The federal government is too busy charging people more money for the health insurance they already have to worry about a border as porous as a screen door.
DennisQ | May 13, 2010, 05:07 AM EDT
Years ago, New England Democrats snubbed Italians the way Republicans are snubbing Hispanics. To this day, New England Italians are solidly Republican. If New Jersey Republicans are dumb enough to make Lou Dobbs their standard-bearer, they'll undermine years of Republican effort to attract Hispanics - an already large voter bloc which continues to grow.
IrishAndProud | May 13, 2010, 01:14 AM EDT
If Lou runs and back this new law unashamedly, it'd do him no political harm. The clear majority of the USA backs this new Arizona law as well (and any number of other states are considering similar laws)...and even in Massachussetts, 70% in a new poll back tougher immigration measures. Besides, all the AZ law does is mirror federal law -- which the feds won't inforce. So, they must do so, themselves.
Monsoonman | May 12, 2010, 09:38 PM EDT
Lou Dobbs would be a welcome member of the U.S. Senate. He thinks logically and speaks plainly.
