I never found Andy Rooney insightful or in the least entertaining.
I'm glad he's stepping down after 33 years with '60 Minutes'.
He's 92, a an age when most men have long gone to the great golf course in the sky but Rooney stuck around.
Why I don't know.
The set up was supposed to be a cranky uncle bemoaning lots of modern day inventions etc.
All we got was Rooney stressing the breathtakingly obvious and getting massive air time for it.
He was neither insightful or endearing in an old fashioned way.
He was cranky and annoying and about as interesting as watching paint dry.
Don't get me wrong, old guys can be great, his colleague Mike Wallace excelled well into his 80s.
But Rooney just got more predictable and boring.
His schtick grew almost as old and tired as he looked.
I won't be sorry he's gone.

For once you got something right. Rooney was one of the journalist, who hounded George s Patton during WWII. Of course Rooney knew better how to run an Army, and Patton was an easy target. Patton was more concerned about saving lives in battle, then about political correctness. Patton's aversion to trench warfare meant a quick war with limit casualities.

I can't disagree with you Patrick, a mean, hateful old liberal espousing what someone must've thought were insightful views. Still, I wish the old guy well in his last few years and hope that he has has a lot of fun, good health and plenty of blessings!

LOL, one man's opinion I suppose- I am curious do you find yourself more insightful and entertaining then Mr. Rooney? If not perhaps it's time you moved on? A little different when you apply your advice to yourself I would imagine.

I am an Andy Rooney fan. I agree it is time, at 92, for him to retire and enjoy the years he has left, but his commentaries remained fresh until the end.

Besides obnoxious commercials, there are plenty of people on TV who are "unlikeable" and they're on a lot longer than 3 minutes, once a week. Don't want to listen to Rooney? Use your remote control. Even if I didn't agree with Rooney, I found him amusing. I'm with mfinucane and Crough Patrick.

"massive air time" , are you kidding me. Rooney was on tv for less than 3 minutes a week.
Patrick Roberts you sound like a boring angry soon to be old man.
