When the Boston Globe asked about Mitt Romney's birth certificate they were told it was unavailable.
Indeed, the state of Michigan where Romney was allegedly born -- but who knows -- Mormon missionaries traveled the world you know --- released a statement saying
"Birth records are restricted in Michigan and only a person or parent named on the record, or a legal guardian or representative can request a copy."
Ha! there we have it--- the cover-up ----let me be the first Romney Birther.
He should not be allowed to run, Mormon undergarments or not, until he proves he is a living breathing, July 4th American.
Bad enough to have a president born in Kenya in a hut with You Tube videos playing the birth --oh you didn't hear, they 'removed' those too from the site?
But his main challenger it now appears was born in ..outer space maybe? I mean is Utah part of America?
So let's find out about Huckabee, Palin (is Alaska really part of America?) and the rest of these frauds. Chances are they were all born in Planet Zog and transported to earth in one of those Scientology Time Capsules that Tom Cruise rattles on about.
Where's the Donald when we need him to call out Romney on this?

@kaydog1 - I would like you to post your birth certificate (short form will do) as it is not clear to me that you are an Earthling and qualified to opine (or, rather, regurgitate) right wing talking points about our beloved President. Keep it up, girl, the more you righties waffle on about this the odds increase on Barry O'Bama's inevitable 2012 victory. BTW, I'm a triple USA/UK/Ireland citizen with a NYC SS # - you got a problem with any of that, darling?

Religions have been burning, stoning and murdering people for centuries. Modern man has just become more efficient at the killing. If you don't hate religion and express that hatred then you are inhuman.

This column WOULD be funny if President Obama/Soetaro had already satisfied the doubters by actually RELEASING the documents he has kept concealed from the public - his long form Birth Certificate to show PRECISELY WHERE he was actually born in the USA, his Indonesian school records to show if he was claiming Indonesian Citizenship after his adoption by stepfather Lolo Soetaro, his documents of legal change of name BACK to the "Barack Obama" name he now uses to sign Bills into Laws (back from his adopted "Barack Soetaro name), his medical records (so we can see why his skull is criss-crossed with "brain surgery - style scars", and I'd also like to know why a man who never lived in Connecticut (and no, neither did his family) has been using a social security number issued to a resident of Connecticut. This would make a nice start, and then I can laugh at your column. After all, there is no point in HAVING Eligibility Requirements if one may simply REFUSE to prove that one actually MEETS the requirements.

What am I missing here? I do not see the "religious bigotry" that mfelzien complains about in this article. Does it have something to do with Roberts' phrase "Mormon undergarments"? Somehow I missed the funny part of mentioning underwear, so I just don't "get it," and perhaps someone will explain it to me. I think it is appropriate in the US to challenge any candidate who runs for office on a platform of his or her religious views rather than on positions that one can justify in the public forum to any reasonable, open-minded person of any religious persuasion or of none at all. It takes some working with facts as well as moral and political principles, rather than simply preaching the "authority" of one's religion. Separation of church and state is a great idea-- let's keep it! Romney doesn't often tout his religion in public, but if he or anyone else does that in 2012, some "sniping" will be in order. We are under no more obligation to "tolerate" theocrats than any other kind of tyrants, and the religious right has plenty of them chomping at the bit right now. Is it an attack on Mormonism to point out the fanaticism of Glen Beck and crew?

Mr. Roberts,
In order to defend one candidate, there is no need to attack another! While I am certainly no Mitt Romney fan,(nor of Mormonism - thanks to their spending of millions to defeat Prop 8 and promote gay hate), his religion is not important to his candidacy. What he religion he practices is protected by the Constitution. Your sarcasm falls far short of the mark of humor.

Roberts...a Morman and a muslim are not the same. Romney should give it a rest, how many times does a man have to lose before he gets the hint. If he wants to run change to what he really is, a Dem. a liberal and get on with it.

Btw: other states seal their birth records under the same rules as Michigan. I'm no Mormon, but I'll bet Romney could produce his birth certificate if he had to.

I think it must be a conspiracy to prevent us from learning the truth about Romney.

Mr. Roberts,
I am really amazed at your attacks on Romney and his religion. Your article keeps sniping at both. This opinion boarders on hate speech, why not work towards some common ground. From what I can gather here religious bigotry and intolerance is alive on this site!
Don't you think it's time we learn tolerance? We are making strides as Americans on racial bigotry and perhaps its time for us, as a country to tackle religious bigotry. Lets think outside the box and avoid this type of rancor.
