Is Barack Obama already wimping out in his second term?

The news yesterday that Susan Rice was withdrawing her name for consideration as Secretary of State and the apparently inspired leak that former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel will be Secretary of Defence indicates so.

Whatever else Democrats have come to know, it is certain that Barack Obama is not someone you want to be in a foxhole with.

By turning his back on Susan Rice, an African American woman, and refusing to fight for her, he has sent a signal of clear weakness despite his handsome election victory.

By apparently anointing Chuck Hagel, who voted 78 per cent with his party as Secretary of Defense, Obama is playing roll over and having his tummy tickled by the good ol’ boys of the GOP.

Republicans will be laughing all the way to the bank with this one. Their nightmare scenario was opposing a black woman so soon after losing the black and minority vote by record levels in the election.

Not only will they not face that but they will also have one of their own ensconced in the key Department of Defense.

They will even have the milk and water,hopelessly defeated, presidential candidate John Kerry to kick around in the State Department. Joe Lieberman Mark Two anyone?

When it comes to fighting for his friends and those who delivered the White House to him, Barack Obama is already missing in action.

Hagel voted 78 per cent with the Republican Party, that is hardly the voting record of a moderate GOP member who could make a difference to this administration.

Obama has just once again reached out to calm the right wing opposition to him and ignored his own base who got him elected.

He is in deep danger of going down in history as Jimmy Carter-like in how wimpish he has become in office.

Instead of confronting his foes he wants to embrace them. They are far too clever for that, but they are perfectly willing to wait him out knowing that sooner or later he will capitulate as he did with Susan Rice.

Susan Rice should not work for the government. But, perhaps Patrick Roberts needs an assistant as it does not seem that intelligence or integrity are needed for his job.

Patrick Roberts....your an idiot. Obama never wimped out on Susan. She chose to pull her name out. She only spoke on the info. she was given by the top security agencies and it's amazing how no one is jumping up and down on them. And you folks show your ignorance....they gave out the best info they had at the time/things will be revised as days and weeks go by and they can get a better picture of what happened. That's the way it is always done. If they said nothing and waited for a full assessment and evaluation...you would be on a rant about that. She became the fall guy in all this. She knew there would be a bigger hoo-rah-rah then all ready going on, so she made the decision to make it easier on herself and the President, and withdrew her name. You need to be concerned about your own countries you came from....they aren't doing real grand

Bippy: I agree that she is a despciable person, to go out and lie about the deaths of fellow Americans because it suited Obama's vision, and then to expect people to give her a pass because she is black and/or female is disgusting. But here's the strangest thing:..she's married to a white dude. She's probably more liberal than racist afterall but that doesn't excuse her anti-Americanism.

Susan Rice is a classic example of Affirmative Action in the U.S. She was moved along, not because of her competence, but her skin color. She has been an embarrassment throughout her career in Washington, displaying an inordinant dislike for all things male and Caucasian. She is a typical Racist in the Most Racist of White House Administrations. I am glad she is gone, but neither Hagel or Kerry are any great prize.

The anti Obama lot are amusing they castigated him for putting Rice's name forward and now they castigate him when she withdraws.Cahir makes some valid points above ,to nominate Hagel is a defeat for the Dems.
