The legislative car crash that is the Arizona immigration bill has sparked a renewed effort at the federal level to work on immigration reform.
President Barack Obama was expected to address the issue at a Cinco de Mayo celebration at the White House Wednesday.
But White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs cautioned that "immigration is a very hard issue that Congress might not finish this year."
However, Gibbs says Obama wants voters to know that immigration reform is too important to stall on.
He said the president would push for progress on immigration reform, "even in a busy legislative time."
Immigration activists have been urged to reach out to Republicans on the issue.
Gibbs said bi-partisan support was essential. "This is not going to pass with only one party's votes."

"IrishAndProud", you still on the pay roll from the anti-immigration groups? hows that going for you? At least the recession isn't a problem for you and your cronies...

The laws aren't 'broken,' ritmomente...they're flat-out NOT ENFORCED. They don't need to be 'fixed;' they need to be ENFORCED. Throw the illegals out.

rit: My further comments will reflect the facts, as usual.

Clever, monsoonman. Please ensure your future comments reflect dignity. Let's fix these broken laws so they can be enforced.
Monsoonman | May 11, 2010, 10:07 AM EDT
and furthermore rit, the liberal game of calling any one a racist who stands up for the enforcing of our countries laws and sovereignty, is getting quite trite and hackneyed with you. Like I have said before calling someone a racist only demeans your argument, because, well you have no logical argumet.
Monsoonman | May 11, 2010, 09:49 AM EDT
Rit: Sorry for your perplexity and confusion on the issue of "burrowing" to illustrate how illegals have to be furtive and stay under the radar to embed themselves into our society. Seems like a perfectly reasonable & honest illustration to most. There is and was no devaluing of humanity intended. Not everyone sees all issues through the eyes of racism, you might want to look at your 3 fingers pointing back at you.

Did you watch a Civil War movie and route for the wrong side again Monsoonman?
ritmomente | May 11, 2010, 07:44 AM EDT
Babbling? You accused them of burrowing. Moles and prarie dogs burrow. You referred to them in a subhuman way. Don't you have any empathy at all? I guess not when your only references are science fiction tv shows like the Twilight Zone. And you accuse me of babbling?!?
Monsoonman | May 10, 2010, 09:48 PM EDT
rit: Will you please show me wtf you are babbling about when you say I refer to other human beings as vermin? Really I am curious how you can construe that, what is it the rabies again?
ritmomente | May 10, 2010, 02:59 PM EDT
no Monsoonman. I am calling anyone who refers to these people as vermin or moles a racist. Read your own postings. Deflection doesn't work. I've stated repeatedly that the US's immigration laws are broken and need to be enforceable.
Monsoonman | May 10, 2010, 09:39 AM EDT
ritmont: You are calling anyone who wants our countries immigration laws enforced, a racist. Pretty empty headed argument actually.
ritmomente | May 10, 2010, 09:10 AM EDT
And as far as the loud minority, we are being heard because we are right and you are racist.
Monsoonman | May 09, 2010, 07:01 PM EDT
The solution is starting in Phoenix, immigration law is being followed, illegals are being fired and US citizens are getting those jobs. Natural attrition is taking place, very simple solution.
Monsoonman | May 09, 2010, 06:46 PM EDT
ritmonte you are one of the loud minority, possibly one of the parasites who inflames the illegal situation, an immigration attorney perhaps? Do you have a vested interest in the illegal immigration industry?show us in the constitution where non US citizens can demand anything from this country. Get back to me.
ritmomente | May 09, 2010, 04:44 PM EDT
You're the one writing about asylums and anarchy. More stars and bars talk. The borders must be secure. What other solution do you have besides wholesale deportation? Maybe you should dig that mote around your house a little deeper.
Monsoonman | May 09, 2010, 12:52 PM EDT
You either have have a country with borders and laws or you have lawless anarchy. Which do you choose? Are we the US citizens going to let the loud minority of inmates take control of OUR asylum?
ritmomente | May 09, 2010, 12:39 PM EDT
La Raza seems terrorist to me. Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform is not. We never asked for amnesty. Our undocumented immigrants want to earn citizenship.
Monsoonman | May 09, 2010, 11:14 AM EDT
From La Raza:We are revolutionary Mexican organization here. We understand that this is not just about Mexico. It’s about a global struggle against imperialism and capitalism… At the forefront of this revolutionary movement is La Raza. We will no longer fall for these lies called borders. We see America as a northern front of a revolutionary movement… Our enemy is capitalism and imperialism.” That about sums it up.
ritmomente | May 07, 2010, 01:47 PM EDT
Amen!
RealIrish2010 | May 06, 2010, 08:47 PM EDT
Fingers crossed lads...
