Did you hear the one about the two Northern Irish police officers who failed to notice a dead body?

Not once, but twice!

The bumbling PSNI officers were sent to the home of a Derry man who had been reported missing by a neighbor.

They said they carried out an intensive search but failed to notice the decomposing body of the man under a blanket on his sofa.

The body of the man was not discovered until the THIRD search of the flat at Deramore Drive in Strathfoyle in September 2008 after he had been dead for several days.

Over to Martina Anderson Policing Board member and Foyle MLA:  “On September 14, 2008, a lady reported to the PSNI that she had not seen her neighbour for over a week. She called back the following day to say that he still had not been seen. Later that afternoon, two officers were tasked to visit the man’s home. One of them entered the property and conducted a cursory search, finding nothing.

“The following day, another two officers were sent to the house to try and establish the missing man’s whereabouts. Again, an initial search failed to find him and it was only when a neighbour explained that the missing man had previously been found asleep under a blanket on the sofa that his decomposing remains were found.”

The man, believed to be his 40s, had died before the first call was made to the police and there is no suggestion of foul play.

This was funny but not so for the police. Didn't they see that the blanket was lumpy??
but the funny thing is! if this was south of the border, the pri-cks we have here as a police force, would have busted into a searched the wrong house! trust me, they are that stu-pid, they couldnt track an elephants footprints in fresh snow!
The really funny bit is, they didn't even notice when they decided to cop a break and watch the hurley match on his Telle!
didn't do a very good check, did they?
Um....What do they think the smell was coming from???
I think that was terrible and hard to believe
maybe they would have found it if it was a "live" body. isnt a "dead body" an oxymoron?
what does PSNI mean - policing sadly numbskull incapable.
What the hell do you expect from the Northern Ireland Police Force.???????
This is ripe picking for the aforementioned Mr. Murray in England who has been listing Irish jokes on his blog. God, he doesn't even have to rewrite this Paddy joke!
This maybe a tough one to live down...has to be career debilitating atleast in the short term... hard to imagine that 4 people could miss spotting a dead guy on the sofa.
you'd think the odor would have given it away, stronger in one room and not another. I hope these guys were sent back for some retraining!
Typical! Mr roots are in that part of Ireland and I can assure you, these guys would have difficulty finding the time of day or water in the River Foyle!!!

This defies comment.
