Chris Todd in his hamster wheel

Chris Todd was a man on a mission...the mission--to raise funds for the blind. His method: audacious--to construct a man-sized hamster wheel, rig it to a catamaran-style raft, check the weather forecast for optimal conditions, hop inside and start to walk on water, the Irish Sea specifically, from Trearddur Bay, near Holyhead, Wales to Greystones Harbour south of Dublin.

"This crossing is on the very edge of what I believe is possible - but I am looking forward to a cold Guinness on arrival," he said to a Daily Mail reporter.

The 35 year old English engineer stepped off Sunday and was making good progress towards his goal 66 miles across the Irish Sea, but nine hours and maybe a dozen miles later his craft, the Tredalo, was either hit by some winds or developed rudder problems, but either way he had to be rescued by a support craft while the Tredalo sank.

But he's even more convinced that his trek across the Irish Sea is possible and may try it again.

Long way to go for a pint of Guinness, but well worth the effort!
