The assault by the left on gun rights, is an assault on women

As a demographic, American women are purchasing firearms at the greatest rate in our nation’s history.
But at the peak, the President and the left, are making a concerted effort to demonize gun ownership and put strict gun controls on law abiding American citizens, which includes women.
One left wing news publication in New York even went so far as to publish the names and addresses of legal gun owners in areas of New York, as if to shame them.

Perhaps they didn’t realize when they published these names; they exposed women who were gun owners trying to keep their identities and residences secret in order to evade stalkers. This publication also outed the names and addresses of women judges and police officers, who were legal gun owners.
The two biggest gun control cities in the US; Chicago and New York City, are already shooting galleries, in spite of their tough gun laws. Law abiding citizens find it difficult to possess a legal firearm, yet the criminals and gangsters are heavily armed….They don’t register their guns and they have high capacity ammunition magazines, in spite of them being illegal.

Just last week, a Georgia woman alone at home with her two young children was terrified to see a man breaking into her house using a crowbar.
She gathered up her children and ran upstairs hiding in a crawl space as the man searched the house looking for them. See

The intruder finally opened the door to the hiding space. But instead of finding helpless victims, he was greeted with 6 shots from a pistol. She shot the criminal 5 times in the face and neck, when the hammer came down on an empty cylinder.
The gun was empty, but the criminal didn’t know it. She told him she would keep shooting if he didn’t stop. Although severely wounded he was able to get out of the house and climb into his car and drive away, thinking the woman would shoot again.
If he knew she had no more bullets in her gun would he have harmed her and her children? Suppose there were 2 or more intruders? She would not have had enough ammunition to defend herself and her children.
Of course the police arrived later to take reports…But they weren’t there when they were needed.
Many women live alone and want the security of owning a firearm and know how to safely use it. If they want to own a semi automatic rifle with a high capacity magazine, as long as they are law abiding citizens, let them. President Obama, Mayor Bloomberg, Governor’s Cuomo, or Emmanuel, can’t guarantee law abiding citizens a crime free environment, in spite of all of their laws. These politicians should deal with the criminal and mental health problem that that they refuse to address, before they infringe on the 2nd amendment rights of law abiding citizens.
In spite of the pathetic attempt to wave a magic wand and declare a location a “gun free zone” and make it all better, this has proven to have the opposite effect, as the recent mass shootings have all occurred in “gun free zones.”
Just like many utopian run cities and locations used to proudly boast they were nuclear free zones, they of course would get incinerated just as crisply as their neighboring cities if a nuke went off near them.

Liberals are all for rights as long as it is rights they agree with. Right to abort - yes. Right to own a gun - no. Right to free speech - Only if you agree with our agenda!

McNamara and how many "sheep" out of 315 million american citizens are we talking about? 70% of gun killings in Oakland Cal are gangster on gangster, same thing in Chicago and NYC. Is that a bad thing? Let the libs clean up their crime and mental hlth problems 1st before they mess w/law abiding gun owning citizens

I notice Obamas sheep don't get the depraved use of children as his props to take the logic out of his gun grabbing scheme and get it into the realm of emotion. I grew up on a very large farm/ranch with a lot of livestock. My dad taught all of us how to load and shoot a rifle along with gun safety. Our guns were used to protect our livestock, not for our personal protection from other people. At 17, I shot and killed a rabid dog, but engaging an armed intruder, who might have the upper hand in regard to guns and ammo, is risky business. I'm in agreement with Pres. Obama's proposals, although I do think people have the right to protect themselves and their property. Mental health issues and a culture where children and adults are desensitized to violence and its consequences are problematic. Too many children are growing up without empathy for others and without sound problem-solving strategies. Instead, "No matter what your problem is, get a gun and shoot someone. In fact, shoot as many people as possible. That's the way to deal with your problems." Lots of issues to fix besides gun control in order to end the violence.

The only vile assault happening here is in the NRA's latest commercial that target Obama's daughters in its add. How low will these greedy soul-less lobbyists go in their gross appetite to sell millions of more guns for the gun industry? This is an "Obscene" add and should be taken off Tv. We are well aware that there are crazies out there armed to the hilt, and to mention the Obama girls in a gun commercial puts them in jeopardy.The NRA doesn't give a damn about America's children; to them our children are just collateral damage in the way of their massive profits. Enough!

The woman who had multiple guns and was a gun enthusiast ended up providing her deranged son with the weapons to kill 26 children in Sandy Hook. It appears your premise isn't quite accurate.

Good article, Mr. Farnan. For readers who do not know the statistics: The violent crime rate in the U.S. has dropped by 50% in the last 10 years. The murder rate in the U.S. has dropped by 54% in the last 10 years. In 1997, Great Britain banned almost all private possession of handguns. But Note: Great Britain’s violent crime rate right now is 3.5 times as high as the violent crime rate in the U.S. Note that the greatest concentration of high violent crime and murder rates is in certain pockets of our metropolitan areas and that we have many more of these pockets than Great Britain. Note: Of the murders committed in the U.S., only 3.5% were caused by rifles and the AR-15 is a subset of the rifle group. If the loving liberals want to do something about the high violent crime rate in certain pockets of our metropolitan areas, they need to put on their boots, go into those neighborhoods and figure out how to improve the poverty level, how to create jobs, and how to improve the education system. That is how you are going to reduce the violent crime in those neighborhoods.

Once again Ed Farnam uses is best radical right wing rhetoric to scare the bejesus out of people. It's interesting how he omits facts and sources. What is the name of this left wing rag that published all the information on these lovely law-abiding gun holders? Who is this mysterious Georgia woman? Our president is looking to institute a SENSIBLE gun control policy in this country. The U.S. has the most lax gun control regulations coupled with the highest incidents of shootings and deaths than any other country in the world. What citizen needs an army grade weapon that can shoot 100 of rounds in minutes? People like Mr. Farnum as so fond of pointing out only the first HALF of the 2nd Amendment. They conveniently forget the second part which clearly states the purpose of these arms is for a well-regulated militia.
