No stranger to enemies, it's earliest believers are enshrined as martyrs. Those faithful ones died for their beliefs, rather than bend to powerful government leaders by renouncing those tenets. Many forces have assaulted the Church over the centuries and many have failed.
Today the Church has a new, powerful enemy of its core beliefs banging at their gate, President Obama. In his rush to implement the highly unpopular Obamacare legislation before the Supreme Court rules on its constitutionality, President Obama has decided to frontally assault the Catholic Church.
He is trying to force the Catholic church to pay for abortion procedures and contraception devices for any of its female employees. Obama decreed that these are women's "health rights" and should be provided free of charge by the Catholic institutions.

Never mind that these services are already widely available throughout the United States and most of this is already provided free of charge to those that cannot afford it. Obama wants to force his ideology upon the church and make them provide services they are spiritually and morally opposed to.
It was a direct punch in the face to the Catholic religion and a basic assault on most of Christianity who agree with the right to life philosophy.
Of course, the President appeared to back track on his attack a few days later, with his late Friday announcement that the Church itself wouldn't have to pay for these services, but their insurance companies would have to. Anyone with an IQ above room temperature knows this doesn't change anything. The insurance companies will just increase the premiums on the church to cover the expense of these new imposed "benefits". To top the egregious insult to truth off, many, if not most of these religious organizations, self insure. President Obama and his advisers know all of this.
The President's "accommodation" towards the Church is all smoke and mirrors and Church leaders know it. They are not happy that these government impositions will be forced upon their institutions.
Other religious organizations have now stepped up to stand next to the Church, which many see as a separation of church and state issue. President Obama has drawn a line in the sand, it is going to be his way or the highway and he is marshaling his forces in the media to get his way.
Yet, no matter how grandiose or powerful President Obama thinks he is, he should take a moment to examine where he stands in the whole history of this Church.
The Church has been around for almost 2,000 years, and in spite of some of its present day problems, it is a powerful spiritual and institutional force. The United States has been in existence for just about 235 years and under Obama's leadership is in decline.
President Obama has awoken the sleeping giant. If I was a Vegas odds maker, my money would be on the Church.

It has been stated that Obama is building his reelection efforts around "women, non whites, and non heterosexuals". Is this what "the greatest generation" went to war for and died in numbers? Obama is a national socialist as was Adolph Hitler. Religion is in the way of his ambition. He is committed to giving equality to women which includes unrestricted abortion because motherhood restricts a woman's ability to obtain personal self-fulfillment. The Catholic Church is committed to protecting the family as are other mainline churches. Therefore, Obama has no choice but to go after religious leaders in the same manner as the Gulag. Cardinal George of Chicago has stated that he "would die in his bed, his successor would die in prison, and the next successor would be executed". As Red Foxx has stated many times, "this is the big one, Elizabeth".

As a matter of fact, yrs ago, my wife had to have emergency procedures at a US hospital, it was at a time I was between ins. co.'s and wasn't covered. She got excellent care, fully recovered and I was billed. I made arrangements w/medical entities and was on a pmt. plan to pay them off, which I did. I didn't expect you or anyone else to pay for me. Since that time I have carried ins. and have watched it skyrocket due to mainly states mandating ins. co.'s cover ridiculous procedures AND a lawyer industry that feeds off of the medical system driving medical costs up by at least 50%. If 0bama really wanted to "fix" the system he would have gone after his base of supporters, the "John Edwards" medical malpractice trial lawyers....The 1% who feed off of us and live in their 40,000 square foot mansions, paid by you and I. And yes obamacare funds abortions, contrary to what he promised lawmakers who voted for his bill. As usual he lied.

The USA may have good health care (not the best--compare its mortality rates with other nations'), but that good health care is available only to those who can afford it. One heart attack or malignancy wipes out the savings of many, leaves them bankrupt and in default on mortgages, unable to pay for medicines, not to mention food, clothing, and shelter. If hospitals provide free services to all those made poor by health care costs, they will not be providing the best health care for long, and many more hospitals will have to close. Get real! There is no mandate covering abortion in any part of Obama's health care plans. The abortion meme is a lie told by the USCCB to try to discredit the only sane approach we have to saving this nation's health care system. "Socialized medicine"-- oh yeah, that's a really scary phrase to someone who's selling his car and moving his family into a two-room apartment to try to pay for his child's chemotherapy.

Presently the USA has best healthcare in the world. Obamacare=socialized medicine, will put us on par w/englands poor quality. Obama is just trying to ram down his secular progressivism onto Christianity by forcing abortion on them, which he knows is abhorrent to this relition. You should look up Obamas past association w/partial birth abortion, it might make you re think your love affair w/him

"Big nanny gov't" knows how to save the nation from the real threat of rising health care costs' wiping out insurance companies, employers, retirement savings, and yes, Catholic hospitals! The bishops' conference, none of whose members will ever be affected by any requirement in the contraceptive-coverage mandate, is "inserting its nose," along with its religious "teaching," into my right to complete health insurance. Since their "teaching" has not persuaded us of its "truth," the bishops are determined to coerce us with the power of federal law! Americans count on federal law to protect us from that kind of self-imposed, self-"established" religion. THAT's an important reason why we have a First Amendment to the Constitution! Let's keep reproductive-health insurance free from the control of churchmen who are never going to use it themselves but who are trying to deprive the rest of America of it. The bishops are and will remain perfectly free to teach and preach whatever they wish, I am free to ignore them, and government-- First and Fourteenth Amendments-- ensures my freedom to ignore them, thank God!

Texascelt: There you go again...Injecting rape into the mix, have you got anymore inflammatory words to throw out that media matters has suggested? You and your colleagues miss the whole point of this and it is big nanny govt inserting its nose into religion. The nation was founded on that not happening, yet you and the others chose to ignore it.

This is an attack on the Catholic religion and all religions in America for that matter. This debate has nothing to do with contraception it is against the entire U.S. Consitution which guarantees freedom of religion. Look at this and look at at his policy is in the Middle East which is setting the stage for armegeoden between Israel and Iran. He is the long predicted ANTI CHRIST.

Monsoonman, you obviously have no idea how many women use 'the pill' for medical issues not related to birth control. But more to the point....SOCIALIST? You people who throw that word around really need to understand what you are saying....because those of us that see the irony of the CONSERVATIVES spending and tax cutting their way into having to BORROW MONEY FROM THE COMMUNIST CHINESE while throwing around the 'S' word like THAT is the worst thing of the two. Don't want to get pregnant? FINE DON'T GET RAPED! Oh wait...ALL of those rape victims didn't ask for it...OR DID THEY? hmmmmmmm...those sluts! Condoms? Only effective about 75% of the time. How about if Santorum just comes out and pledge like John Fitzgerald Kennedy did, that HIS allegiance was NOT to The Vatican or the Catholic Church, when it would come to being President of the United States..but rather it would be to THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES....Ironically, the "Catholic" that the Right-wing Conservatives were so 'AFRAID' they were going to get in JFK, is EXACTLY what they are going to get with little Ricky Santorum.

The Catholic Church is a morally bankrupt cult run by women haters that protects child predators and doesn't really care about saving souls. It's all about power and politics. The Catholic vote is not monolithic and that vote wont really affect the general election. This issue is simply frivolous redmeat for bat-crazy Repugs who know Pathetic Mittens and Freaky Rick cant beat Obama this fall -- and may stay home on Election Day. This issue wont move indies or moderates to the GOP column. Obama has outflanked the GOP on most issues. Rope-A-Dope baby! But get ready for more outlandish HYSTERIA from right-wingers like Ed who thinks the 2000-year-old Catholic Church comes before our nation and our laws. Sounds like treason to me.

Rebelforce, I do not agree with your point of view -like thetexascelt and others, I believe this issue has nothing to do with religious freedom - but thank you for at least stating the Catholic Church's position fairly. I believe Obama's compromise is correct and will be acceptable to a large majority of Americans and virtually all women. Rick Santorum, current GOP frontrunner, sincerely believes that any form of contraception is morally wrong and a grave sin for Catholics. He would outlaw it nationally. Like his fellow GOP colleagues he denounces the expansionist federal government for encroaching on our liberties, yet fails to see the appalling irony here: he would happily invade the most intimate and private sphere of our lives, bringing this same government into every American bedroom with brute force. For Santorum does not believe in that most sacred American value, our basic right to privacy, most especially a woman's right to control over her own body. Stripped of its window-dressing, to this Godly man, a woman is nothing more than a baby factory. Wow,! what an American!

This is just another socialist brick in the wall, of personal non responsibility, takes a village mentality. How about you dont want to get pregnant, dont have sex? Pay for your own birth control? How much does a condom cost? How much does a month supply of bc pills cost? Big nanny govt pays for everything..Typifies why we are 16 trillion in debt and going down fast...Oh that's right liberal mentality(Keynesian economics) says debt doesn't matter..roflol! Nothing to worry about about with Captain Barry Schettino on the bridge.
