President Obama and the First Lady

The inauguration of a president to a new four year term, is celebration for all Americans to be proud of.

Our political system has shown we can have a peaceful and orderly transfer of power after popular elections; no need for armed overthrows of leaders.

Inauguration day is when the leaders and their families come together as Americans, despite their political differences. It’s a moment in time when our leaders can mark a new spirit of cooperation for the country and set the tone for the rest of the citizens.

After all we are all crew-members on this ship of state called America.

So much of the inauguration festivities are symbolic, that’s why it has always been a day to observe social mores and show basic respect.

When cameras caught Michelle Obama’s, look of contempt and disdain towards the speaker of the House John Boehner during a luncheon, it came as a shock for many.

This is not what this day is about and it brought out an ugly truth on a day that was supposed to be reserved for celebration and unity as a country.

Boehner, sitting next to President Obama and Michelle, was trying to make polite conversation with them, but as the video showed, Michelle showed as much courtesy to Boehner as she would have to a lowly cockroach. She didn’t stop eating, to acknowledge the Speaker and couldn’t have flashed a worse multi faceted scowl his way without missing a bite.

From the video, Boehner acted like a gentleman and continued on with the conversation, not allowing himself to be dragged into the pettiness.

What would the reaction be if it was a Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi being shown such disrespect at a George Bush inauguration?

The First Lady and the president had an opportunity to mend fences and set a tone for the country yesterday. They had an opportunity to mend the rift the country finds itself split down the middle on…..But if Michelle is any indicator of what lies in the heart of the White house, there will be little attempt to mend fences or find common ground.

People like roccut are a perfect example of low information sheep that inhabit this site: If obama was such a uniter why didn't any of his budget proposals pass in 4 years? Not 1. He didn't even get 1 vote for his outrageously bankrupt budget proposals from 1 of the economically retarded democrats in the senate or house....You didn't know that did you? You don't care do you? You don't have a clue as to how important it is for the largest economy in the world to even have a budget., not to mention that spending is nightmarishly out of control. It's all about free diapers, gay marriage, free birth control and beyonce lip synching the national anthem...That's what's really important

I think this is a bit silly. First, no one knws what John Boehner is saying. Second, this idea that is a lack of effort from Obama to come together with the GOP is the joke of the year since the total effort from the GOP for four years has been obstruction. Again, another silly attack on the first family that is pure nonsense.

A more indicative moment was Jay Z sitting behind Michelle Obama. Wonder why Obama didn't serenade Michelle with "99 Problems" at the Inaugural Ball later on. But remember, Obama CARES about women!

Obama Family supporters know you're suffering a huge loss - the presidential election - and that explains your right winger bleating. It's the last few faint tones of a dying breed that couldn't adapt. What must rankle most is knowing you literally threw the election away! Fell on your swords, you did! Approval from such false critics wouldn't amount to a hill of beans. So what can be expected from trolls whose grip on power slips more by the day? Lies, lies, and more lies. Reminds me of Gollum.

What is now getting more scrutiny on that video is Michelle's atrocious table manners, shoveling food into her mouth and elbows on the table..What low class. Of course the liberal sheep don't even know what table manners are

Michell Obama has no class as she has shown us on other occasions. Remember how she treated Oprah who helped her husband when he ran for election the first time. Has anyone seen Oprah anywhere near the Obamas recently? Michell doesn't want a fat woman at the white house.

Someday I'll try to take a page from your book, but I was reared in a staunchly populist family and sometimes we get our jollies slapping troglodytes after they've given it their blessing by yanking our chain first; so I don't always remember to measure my words. Devlin, your own sharp observations are appreciated as well. McNamara, too. The rest of you can take a long walk on a short pier. Especially paddyRanger. What are you, BA or something? Wouldn't you feel silly if you knew I'm really just a sweet little 67-year-old lady, all of 5' tall, and perfectly nice to anyone who doesn't kick me in the shins first? Of course you wouldn't. If you indulge in completely unwarranted vilification of a truly grand First Lady, then you'd not shrink from anything for the EXTREME SHAME you've shown. The elephant in the living room was quite apparent at that table. Obama/Boehner threw aside partisan differences to show unity on inauguration day...Michelle's true self was very evident and very mean spirited, she couldn't contain the ugliness inside
