It's Open Season on Conservative Women in the Media
By: Ed Farnan | Published Monday, June 20, 2011, 2:50 AM | Updated Friday, September 9, 2011, 10:16 PM

The first reaction of many to the suspension of MSNBC far left commentator Ed Schultz is, why did it take so long?
Known for incendiary remarks and his debasement of all things conservative, Ed evidently went a bridge too far with the new management when he called conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham a right wing slut during one of his on air rants. He didn't just say it once, he did it twice to make sure he drove his point home.
The purposeful use of this degrading language towards Ms. Ingraham was designed to demean her and make her look "less than" in viewers eyes. He most assuredly used this language in a comfortable way to carve up Ms. Ingrahams reputation with the ease of someone used to doing it without fear of repercussion.
What brought on Schultz's on air rant? It was Ms. Ingraham’s "audacious comment" that it might not have been the greatest decision for Obama to be seen drinking beer in Ireland, as Missouri tried to pick up the pieces after a devastating tornado.Previously Ed and his fellow co hosts could get away with the juvenile name calling, extreme language and degradation of women without a worry of any repercussions. They had a megaphone/cudgel which they could character assassinate conservative women with impunity.
Their favorite targets were ANY conservative woman with the gall to run for public office. Second in line were any conservative women who were in the media.
Watching the concerted character assassinations by the left over the past few years has given pause to many of us. We note there is a double standard in the liberal media and anything goes when it comes to putting the boot on the back of strong conservative women, in order to keep them down.
And just where has that stalwart defender of womens rights, the National Organization of Women (NOW) been during this constant assault on their Sisters? Nowhere to be seen or heard. Why? Because the women being demeaned are conservatives. Guess in NOW land some women are more equal than others.
But the new sheriff in town at NBC is starting to exert its hold on civility, far left heads have rolled at the network since Comcast has gained a larger stake in the network and it seems it will no longer tolerate over the top debasement that has been the hall mark before.
Lets hope this suspension brings some civillity back to the discourse.

Seano...another lard arse ED the water head wanna be. Monkey see monkey do. So little class so little time.
seanomelbourne | May 29, 2011, 08:20 PM EDT
Michelle Malkin!!! A middle of the road fascist who couldn't lie straight in bed. A termagant of the first order spewing bulls-t.
maloney | May 29, 2011, 07:56 PM EDT
The conservative females can take anything the liberals throw at them knowing they have done no wrong and are on the right team. The liberals are thin skinned like obama because they all deal in lies and corruption. Michele Malkin (a great American) said it best with "Ed only said he was sorry to save his fat arse." The 12:21pm post isn't me although it's a great post.

Larry Flynt is a disgusting example of liberal hypocrisy in action. A user and exploiter of women to the maximum, but since he is a liberal and supports liberal causes, you, NOW, the rest of your "team" of star war characters and the media, are mum on him. His run for president was a joke, no sane person took him seriously, unless we count you? What it is it? Some sort of twisted Stockholm Syndrome? Find me a quote where Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, bill o'reilly, glen beck or some of the others, used the gutter language used by your deranged media "stars" such as jeanine garraffolo, ed shcultz, chris matthews, rachel maddow, lawrence o'donnel, keith olbermann..yadda yadda yadda. TIA
Narrowbackgal | May 29, 2011, 10:42 AM EDT
Larry Flynt also ran for president as a republican. Guess that puts him on your "team" too? The fact that you break politics down into "teams" is fairly pathetic. Interesting too that you don't respond to Seanomelbourne's point about the misogny on your side- and he doesn't even mention what your "team" did/does to Hillary Clinton.
seanomelbourne | May 29, 2011, 01:35 AM EDT
Why narrow your challenge Mman include Hannity with his vitriolic assassination of Nancy Pelosi or O'Reilly denigrating female liberals on his Fox/GOP. As i stated Mman seems like a draw to me.
Monsoonman | May 29, 2011, 01:23 AM EDT
Lad? Who is the biggest disrespector of women challenge between Larry Flynt and Ed Schultz? I think progressive women should have the final say.
Monsoonman | May 29, 2011, 01:20 AM EDT
Larry Flynt is a strong strong backer of dems/libs, a luminary in yer midst. I know it seems a clash of your ideals/moral dilemma to have such a women exploiter on your "team". But Larry Flynt probably single handedly saved bill clinton from being convicted on impeachment charges.
Narrowbackgal | May 29, 2011, 12:13 AM EDT
You're making straw man arguments, water boy. You seriously think Larry Flynt is a "luminary" to progressive women?? Ridiculous.
seanomelbourne | May 28, 2011, 11:40 PM EDT
We seem to have a tit for tat war here as who disrespects women the most.Seems like a draw to me Mman.
Monsoonman | May 28, 2011, 06:32 PM EDT
I see another one of your luminaries, Larry Flynt has just called Trig Palin a brain dead vegetable. OK narrowbackgal, tell me that is acceptable? Or is just a matter of boys will be boys in your world.
Narrowbackgal | May 28, 2011, 05:49 PM EDT
Water boy, the First Lady is a fit and healthy woman who is trying to encourage the nation to make healthy food choices. Considering the shocking rate of obesity in this country, it's a message that needs to be heard. You cry foul that Shultz insulted a woman (and yes that was wrong) but you have done nothing but dish out petty insults to Democratic women yourself just in these comments (I can only imagine what you spew in real life). Like most Right Wingers, you want to have your cake and eat it too. You want to throw insults freely but not be insulted back. You want to pay no taxes, but have roads and bridges, police to protect you, and fire depts to fight fires. Tell you what, turn off Rush and Beck, and stop letting that poison infect you. Liberals are not your blood enemies, they are your countrymen who have a different perspective on things.

Some other Ed Schultze gems that never got an apology: ‘rip out’ Dick Cheney’s heart, when he called Liz Cheney “shooter’s little girl,” or when he said Republicans enjoyed watching people with cancer die,” Bozell said. “MSNBC should have demanded apologies for the litany of offenses in Ed’s past.”

seagreen: You can lose weight and not be fat to avoid the stigma. But ask a woman who has been branded a slut and see how she feels about that.... Now run along and play. You lefties have no sense of propriety, what was it the public school ejucation?
seagreen | May 28, 2011, 12:02 PM EDT
monsoonman....Michelle Obama is fat ..Ingraham is a slut. no apology needed
seagreen | May 28, 2011, 11:56 AM EDT
monsoonman..... Michelle Obama is fat, and Ingraham is a slut...well
seagreen | May 28, 2011, 11:49 AM EDT
Schultz's comments about Ingraham did not come soon enough... She and the rest of her ilk cheerlead while husbands and other right wing war profiteers rake in the dough at the expense of loyal and really patriotic members of the military. Ingraham is exactly what Schultz called her. She and the rest of these Bimbo's cry alligator tears in suppot of some young kid who's life and future have been destroyed in Afghanistan for short money. The are not the piano players in the whorehouse, they are the main event. The entire right wing creedo is to live well at someone else's expense. As for Comcast, they have already taken MSNBC off the cable TV at Holiday Inns, and will eventually shut down MSNBC. As for all of the kept right wing ladies, enjoy the fruit of marrying the "dogs that cannot stop eating", and just like Mob wives, keep your mouth shut, and everythig will be all right.

Slut? What is he 15? Typical whiny liberal.
Monsoonman | May 27, 2011, 09:27 PM EDT
Will one of you liberals let me know the politically correct term for idiot when I refer to your new leader of the democratic national committe...debbie wasserman shultz. Thanks in advance
Monsoonman | May 27, 2011, 08:02 PM EDT
LOL! What blind hypocrites. Let me know when you find a quote from any of the right wing commentators that call one of your women folk sluts and we can have a discussion. So what if Limbaugh called Michele Obama fat, she is! and she's hypocrite enough to tell US how to eat. You Kool Aid drinkers would be hillarious if it weren't for the fact your bankrupting us in every state of the union.
seanomelbourne | May 27, 2011, 07:55 PM EDT
Farnan the hypocrite never lambasted the right when they pilloried Hillary,Nancy Pelosi and other Liberal women. We seem to have two sets of rules here.
Narrowbackgal | May 27, 2011, 07:19 PM EDT
Actually, Ed, the left in general does not care for the kind of vitriolic talk radio those on the right find so enjoyable. There is no liberal equivalent to Limbaugh because we find his style of inflammatory rhetoric pretty loathsome. He is the king of degrading and insulting his opponents solely because he does not agree with them politically. He accused Michael J. Fox of faking his disease. He compared Chelsea Clinton to a dog. He called Michele Obama fat. He mocked Malia Obama as stupid. Is this what you consider competing on “the field of ideas”? I think the majority of us on the left have higher expectations of our pundits and advocates than those on the right do. When one of ours steps out of bounds, like Shultz did, we call them on it. I have yet to see the same from right-wingers. PS: I'm sure Limbaugh staffers have a google alert on his name, which alerts them to everything online which mentions him. I'm pretty sure he's not too interested in us, unless we're talking about him.
McNamara31 | May 27, 2011, 04:01 PM EDT
EdinCali Good! He can see for "himself" what the Irish think of his smears and deflection from the facts.
EdinCali | May 27, 2011, 01:41 PM EDT
Evidently our website is on the Rush Limbaugh watchlist. He just devoted time talking about Irishcentral.com to his millions of listeners around the world.
EdinCali | May 27, 2011, 12:29 PM EDT
I think you'll have to agree the proof is in the pudding. Whenever the lefts version of "political commentary" has to compete in the free market place, it fails. Do you suppose it is because they cannot compete on the field of ideas and are not able to defend those ideas in a coherent manner? Hence they resort to the degrading foul language because they can't translate their moral stands and ideals into a coherent argument...jes sayin'
charlie0491 | May 27, 2011, 11:29 AM EDT
Try and remember Ed, you don't work for FOX
joanxis | May 27, 2011, 11:06 AM EDT
Well said, Narrowbackgal.
Shmrck5S | May 27, 2011, 10:28 AM EDT
What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, Mr. Limbaugh. It's wrong for all , but no different from what the right-wing puupetmasters do.
McNamara31 | May 27, 2011, 10:02 AM EDT
In the last election the GOP "used" conservative women as cheerleaders and “attack dogs” for the mainstream GOP candidates. In example after example Palin was sent out to do the damage while McCain gave the appearance of being above it. And also does anyone remember Bachman's repeated call that Obama’s administration was a "Gangster Government?" GOP women of the past, like Kay Bailey Hutchison would never have allowed themselves to be used in such a way.
Narrowbackgal | May 27, 2011, 09:38 AM EDT
I am a progressive woman, and I have no problem saying Ed Shultz was way out of line with his remarks. Here's the thing though- the man publicly apologized, actually called Ingraham to apologize, and then offered to take a week of unpaid leave. He took responsibility for his actions. It would be refreshing to see right wingers do the same- like say, Limbaugh using "Paddy" in a derogatory way, or congressman Patrick McHenry who the other day called consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren a liar during her testimony before congress. Progressives have no problem with strong conservative women- we have a problem with their politics, politics which disproportionately negatively impact women and children as well as the middle class and the poor. We have every right to criticize policies and positions we fundamentally disagree with, although ad hominem attacks should be avoided.
GeorgeDillon | May 27, 2011, 04:01 AM EDT
I am a progressive and a leftist, but I do find htat the MSNBC clique are a particularly unattractive lot. Plus, they're pseudo-leftists, they never challenge the system. They're Israel-lovers too. And they're abortionists. Enough said.
