In times like these my mind wanders back to those idyllic days spent in St. Patricks elementary school, learning the 3 r's, from the Sisters of "Mercy". Of course back then if I was too idyllic, Sister Mary Pureta would break my reverie with a whack of her ruler. Yes in those impressionable years the Sisters taught me the basics of math and the important concept of negative numbers, which I found later on wasn't a good thing if it concerned your personal finances.
Back in those early years I think the highest number we got to was fifty thousand, a million had too many zero's for our little heads to comprehend, a billion was was just a word and a trillion hadn't been invented yet. A favorite past time for adults to get rid of us for a while would be tell us to go outside and count to ten thousand.
Which brings me to the President of the Peoples Republic of China, President Hu landing on American soil, being wined and dined & kowtowed to by President Obama. Ironically Obama is a past recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, the current recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize is a Chinese citizen who is imprisoned in a Chinese Gulag, so much for human rights.
We owe the communist country almost 1 trillion dollars in debt. On top of that we have a huge imbalance of trade with this country due to many reasons, but chiefly because we compete on an uneven playing field and no one is doing anything about it. The communist country does not have labor laws, as we know them, convict labor and children are used to manufacture cheap products. They also, with impunity, manufacture knock offs of everything ranging from designer hand bags to Ipads, flooding the markets with cheap imitation goods. They put on line a new coal fired energy plant every week, don't dare wear a white shirt while outside in Shanghai and don't even think of sticking your toe in the Huangpu River .
This choreographed visit to the US, will show a little window dressing and give a bone to Obama by the announcement that the Chinese will buy 46 billion worth of goods from the US, but that is a drop in the bucket to what needs to be done. Obama is not strong enough to impress the communist leaders, they know he is all talk, but no action, so they eat his/our lunch. The only thing that's saving us right now is that we are too big to fail for the Chinese, because we can bring them down too.
Until we get our financial house in order, balance our budget and live within our means, Hu and the Chinese communists are our daddy and will dictate to us what the next moves will be. But real fiscal sanity will not happen until the big tax and spenders are swept out of office in 2012. Until then, to put it in an old Abbott and Costello baseball simile: Hu's on 3rd ready to steal home.

Good evening Mr. Monsoonman from Mr. Big Tony. Sorry to correct you but Eric Holder cannot arrest me because I am a Bulldog. Please allow me to further explain to you and your friends, it is quite simple a animal control officer can arrest me but not you and therefore Eric Holder can't arrest me. You and Moonbeam must have gon to the same law school. Moonbeam for your information was the Attorney General for California but is now again governor. Yes sir, I am a smart bulldog and never went to law school as I consider common sense more valuable than a degree in law.
BARK, BARK, BARK.

Well I am an 85 lb bulldog pup 10 months old and my dad told me his grandfather told him that one day we would become allies with the Russians to fight China. We have made china what it is today by sending to china the opportunity to manufacture products we import since our corporations do not build it here but buy from them and disemploy American workers - what happened to tarrifs on imports? What a mess this is.

If these guys weren't afraid of everyone and every thing, they would have nothing to write about. I guess Ed Farnan's solution would be to bomb our biggest international rival off the face of the earth.

c. hawes, you and other conservatives like to throw around the word "entitlements" like it was a four-letter word.
To which "entitlements" are you referring? Social Security -- it seems to me that Social Security recipients are certainly entitled to receive it, After all they paid into it all their working lives. Social Security is going broke because there is a limit on the amount of wages that are subject to the Social Security withholding. Remove that limit and watch the Soc Sec Trust Fund not only become solvent, but run a surplus!
Or maybe it's Medicare. That's another system that people pay into and receive benefits. Medicare is going broke because health care costs are skyrocketing.
Oh, then there''s military retirement. These folks have worked for at least 20 years, some suffering family separations; others losing their lives or limbs in combat, suffering post traumatic stress from having to look over their shoulders to make sure someone's not ready to take a pot shot at them; all this while contractors like Blackwater employees get paid a month what the military get paid in a year to do the job. So when someone from the military retires after 20 years of hardship on half of their base pay, I would say they were entitled to their pension.
What other entitlements can we look at? Oh, yeah, there's all those "Welfare bums" and "welfare queens" out there sitting around and making big bucks off of unemployment and welfare. As usual, conservatives, with their "Don't confuse me with the facts, I've got my mind made up" attitude don't want to hear that their average welfare recipient is only on the rolls less than 6 months before they are employed again.
You conservatives and your "entitlements" just don't want to hear the facts!

Right wing propaganda. Obama is continuing policies of past Presidents, Republican and Democratic. NAFTA, a Republication priority, was passed by Clinton. This led to the hollowing out of US manufacturing.

Please don't call it liberal spending for programs that help our own citizens enjoy a decent standard of living. Those kind of programs help build the foundations of our most precious resource, the American people. These programs are a drop in the bucket, as far as the amount that is spent on them, when you compare them to military spending and subsidies to corporations.
