Just when you think the secular progressives have gone as far as they can with the political correct gobbledygook, they come up with a new pretzel like way to separate our country from its foundation.
A Seattle public school no longer believes it is proper to call Easter Eggs, Easter Eggs...They are now officially "Spring Spheres".
Excuse me while I clutch my gun and my religion...but isn't this going a bit far?
No longer is it Easter Vacation, it is "Spring Break". "All Saints Day" aka "Demon Night" in some parts of the country is called Halloween. The "Christ" has been taken out of Christmas, just refer to it as Xmas from now on. The push is on to rename Columbus Day to "Indigenous Peoples Day", or "Dia de la Raza".
Two of our greatest Presidents birthdays Lincoln and Washington, have been lumped into one holiday called Presidents Day......An effort is being made to eradicate American values.
It seems American traditions are evil and must be obliterated in the secular progressive mentality, they are at the root of all that is wrong with society. Anyone that doesn't agree with that line of thinking is sub par intelligent and a red neck gun clinger, ahem.
How far does the left want to go to extinguish every little bit of connection we have with our heritage in order to appease other cultures? There is no limit, but a wise man (person) once said:
"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything".
America has traditions and values that the majority of its citizens believe in, but it is being hijacked by a tyranny of the minority.

Secularism is a "broad church" so to speak Jamie, people like Farnan just dump people into pigeon hole so they do not have to investigate,it's just lazy journalism.

seanomelbourne, religious people aren't usually interested in changing traditional religious terminology. I used the term "secularist" because that's the term Mr. Farnan used in his column to describe the people (Seattle public school officials) who wanted Easter eggs changed to spring spheres. You're right. Neither you nor I know who these Seattle public school officials are - their politics and their religious backgrounds. Maybe they're members of a "politically correct" group. You said you were secularist, so why do you say the name has no basis? It must have some basis or why would you identify yourself as one?

I have no interest in any religion Jamie,I agree with you central argument. Secularist is a word coined by the right which really has no basis in fact. I respect all religions but practice none.Pigeon-holing people using emotive language is counter productive. If you do not know who these people are how can you call them "secularist"

seanomelbourne - I don't know who these "secular progressives" are who insist on making these silly name changes. Why does some group, whoever they are, get to decide that certain traditional names have to be changed because they're too religious sounding? Well, too bad. Ramadan, Passover, Christmas, and Easter are what they are. No faith should have to change traditional names to please a minority group. I never try to convert people who are secularists - that's their business. Just leave my, and other faiths, religious terminology alone.

Jamie I'm a secularist and I think the changes are silly it's about commonsense. Why try and pigeon hole every change as a "leftist conspiracy" BTW as far as Ramadan is concerned demonizing Muslims is the cause celeb of the right.

seanmelbourne: it's not American moderates and conservatives who are demanding that Americans make these ridiculous changes in terminology. I'm waiting for the secularists to tell the Muslims to change the term "Ramadan" and the Jews to change the term "Passover" to something less religious sounding. Where I live, everyone says Easter eggs, Halloween, and Merry Christmas. At my house, we even have the Easter bunny and Easter baskets containing Easter eggs and we go to church on Easter Sunday where we have an Easter breakfast following the Easter service. Spring spheres? Never. Hancock's right - MORONS.
