The recent storms that plowed through the east caused widespread power outages. They are offering us an example of what it is like to have a society without electricity. To make matters worse, the outages are occurring during record heat, compounding the misery of millions of Americans. But if this was happening during winter under record cold, it could be disastrous.
When you realize how much we take for granted such simple tasks as keeping the food in your refrigerator cool, operating your air conditioner, turning on the street lights, operating the electric fuel pumps at the gasoline station...Or charging your electric car, we are dependent on power.
Estimates for restoring power to the many millions without, range from a few hours to over a week.
During past major power outages affecting America, statisticians have pointed out a spike in birth rates 9 months later, showing that television and electronics have a birth control quality about them....Will 0bamacare show it's value by focusing in like a laser beam on women's contraception? Time will tell.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been waging war on our nations sources of energy. Since the beginning of the Obama administration, this war has escalated with the appointment of far left activists who are committed to getting us off of "fossil" fuels as a source of energy and replacing them with so called "renewables" of solar-wind.
Of course if past performance of "renewables" is any indication of future performance, the current power outages in the east are a good indicator of what's in store for us. How would windmills fare under the assault of hurricane force winds, or even strong erratic winds? Here's what's happening to some in the UK:
Wrecked by gales again as wind farms get 300,000 to switch off..... in high winds
Recent EPA rulings and regulations will force many energy producing coal fired plants out of business. These plants cannot afford the drastically expensive retro fitting the EPA is forcing upon them and will drop from the power grid. It's not going to take many of these coal fired plants to drop off line before we see problems with energy delivery.
Video shows how cheap and abundant energy brings prosperity to the world
Gas fired power plants are being hailed as a good replacement for coal plants, but these are also "fossil" fuel and deep down there is resentment against this power source as well.
Time will tell what our brave new energy future will be under the guidance of the EPA. Many people think expensive energy and energy shortages will be the norm.

McNamara..There are 33K prominent scientists/physicists/meteorologists who signed a petition that disagree with you...Just like the ninnies are now blaming the forest fires in the western US on global warming, when in reality it is from the enviro whackos managing the forests for the past 4 decades and as a result they are overgrown, sick and dry tinderboxes waiting for a spark. The same ninnies that run the epa, are the rabid left who have turned our forests into raging wildfires

The last 16 years have been the hottest "on record" of all time, causing the increase in powerful storm, yet half of America refuses to join the rest on the worldwide scientific community and begin to deal effectively with Climate Change/ Global warming issues. Because of the hold of the oil and coal industry in this country, people are lulled into ignorance by the buffoons on Fox or Limbaugh while as a nation we should be advancing and implementing "smart grid" technology and getting the power lines under ground. Conservatives keep spreading this myth that Climate Change (caused by emissions) does not exist, when all one has to do is look at the fires in Colorado and our past hurricane seasons to see it's impact. When it comes to the EPA, they are our last "firewall" against corporations who pillage our community's water and land while the EPA attempts to clean up the super-funds left behind when companies move on and leave their toxic crap behind. Presently there are three major "Superfund" toxic plumes in Nassau County Long Island affecting thousands of people. The one in Farmingdale is so severe they are making plans to ship water in from other sources. The Superfund site in the Westbury/Hicksville area contaminated the major aquifer with TCE a carcinogen and caused the closure of many area wells. How do you think we would address these toxic water issues if the EPA goes away . Time to wake up folks!

Not an expert in this area but there seems to be a strange convergence taking place, the current governmentbacks "green energy" which have some famous bankruptcies, and vow to bankrupt coal powered electric factories. They place moratoriums on drilling in the gulf of mexico but ok brazil to drill in the gulf. unelected agencies like the EPA are now to big to fail and have more power than congress, they can prevent politically non friendly companies to exist while propping up politicaly friendly ones. So much for the Representative Republic.

A lot of people are and will remain unprepared for extended blackouts, regardless of the cause (natural, regulation-induced, or a terrorist attack). As the EPA continues it's attack on business and industry, we'll see more of the regulatory version of blackout (see: California circ 2000-2001). These can be avoided if we can elect representatives with the huevos to reign in the power-hungry mad men at EPA. The other two versions of outages are more unpredictable.
Sticking your head in the sand and acting like it isn't your concern won't make it go away.
