Almost 3 months after suffering what would normally be a fatal gunshot wound to her head, Congresswoman Giffords is making a miraculous comeback. She just journeyed to Florida to see her husband pilot the space Shuttle Endeavor for its final mission to space. Although the mission had to be scrubbed due to problems in the Shuttles propulsion system, the miracle of seeing "Gabby" Giffords walk up the stairs to board an aircraft made us all cheer her on and marvel at her spirit.
Politics aside, I think we can all learn from her, strength and determination that has seen her overcome the odds and prove to us that sometimes no obstacles are too difficult to overcome.
Because right now Arizona is facing a very difficult obstacle in the form of the federal government. Arizona has been trying to defend its' border from an invasion of illegal aliens and the Obama administration is putting roadblocks in its way and many think it is for political purposes.
Arizona lawmakers overwhelmingly passed a law which required police to check the citizenship status of anyone they have stopped or apprehended for other reasons. Seems pretty simple and straight forward to most of us who want to know who is in our country.
But the Obama administration say that it is against the federal law to do that and have sued Arizona so they can't implement the law.
When she comes back to work in Congress I wonder if she will listen to the majority of the voters in Arizona and help her state protect its borders?
Time will tell.

The writer of the following should read a law before commenting on it. Under the law, my Irish brogue would be enough for a policeman to ask for my documentation even if I had not done anything perceived to be wrong.

The focus of the article was to wish Gabby well and to remind her that there is a lot of work waiting for her upon her return to congress. Her state is getting assaulted by the Obama administration and needs her help. Whether it is getting sued over A.'s attempt to defend itself from illegal immgration or their attempt to bring an even playing field to Az.'s work place by requiring secret ballots. At every level they are being assaulted....They need all hands on deck! Also the issues facing AZ. are basically black and white, little gray. she will be able to show her constituents very clearly where she stands on these issues, so the voters can have a real choice next election.

Have you noticed, Mr F, that no one wants to engage in a discussion about what Congresswoman Giffords ought or ought not to be doing about immigration and citizenship? They want her to get well.

Farnan you begin your article on a positive note and end in your usual whingeing tone.Any artillery will do to castigate the President.

The mood in Arizona has shifted since the outright attempted murder of Mrs. Giffords by an "American" gun owner. Just recently Gov. Brewer who originally pandered to far right extremists on matters of gun control and immigration, vetoed Senate Bill 1467, that would have “allowed guns” to be "carried and kept" in all areas of college campuses. We know Brewer has become more moderate and maybe she will also look for an answer to immigration issues that do not affect the rights of any certain group.
