Clint Eastwood masterfully unmasked Obama, but the left missed the subtleties

The left was thrown for a loop last night, when one of their own, (they think EVERYONE in Hollywood is one of their own),  had the temerity to come out on stage in front of a national audience and express his unvarnished opinion about President Obama.

The mystery speaker for the closing night of the GOP convention in Tampa, is now only a mystery to those unsophisticated, humorless pundits on the left.

Clint Eastwood came out on stage at the Republican National Convention last night, in front of millions and had a conversation with an empty chair.  The chair sitting next to him on the dais, (that’s a stage for those on the left) is a common prop used in one man shows in comedy routines as well as lectures and speeches.

Of course for most of those in the Tampa audience and those who have the mental acuity to know these things, the empty chair (with a teleprompter in front of it) had an imaginary President Obama sitting in it.  To many in the US,  it is symbolic of President Obamas leadership. He hasn’t had a budget in 3 years, played more golf than any sitting president in history, but met only once with his council of economic advisers, even though the economy is in dire shape.

But there was a teachable moment which put the spotlight on how some subtleties escape the left.  Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow and Al Sharpton , in a post convention wrap up. criticized Clints performance.   Calling it a bizarre performance, saying Clint had lost it and they shouldn’t allow an 82 year old out on stage.  It was almost hysterical to listen to them…Hey you little whiners isn’t that age discrimination?

But of course they were extremely sensitive and aware of any perceived slight that Clint might direct towards any of their herd of sacred cows, bending themselves into pretzel like contortions to find any slight, imaginary or real.

Eastwood said to the audience, “we own this country,” the politicians are our employees and when they don’t do their job, we fire them.”

Now this really got their liberal panties in a wad and one of the hapless trio saw an entitlement mentality message wrapped up in what Clint said….At that point I was actually laughing out loud with incredulity and wondering just who actually watches MSNBC and believes anything emanating from it…My teachable moment was: I actually understood why many in the media refer to MSNBC as MSLSD.

Of course Clint meant that all American citizens own this country, Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, etc. and we deserve the best…When we don’t get it, it is time to make a change….If that’s an entitlement mentality, then I want more of it on a massive scale.

Eastwood, praised Romney as a "stellar businessman.  Referring to Obama saying  “it's never a good idea for attorneys to be president.  They are always devil's advocating this and bifurcating this and bifurcating that.  But, I think it is maybe time -- what do you think -- for a businessman.  How about that? A stellar businessman... And I think it's that time.  And I think if you just step aside, Mr. Romney can take over.  You can maybe still use the  plane.”

Of course Eastwood threw away the subtlety and used a sledge hammer a few times like when he said  Joe Biden was the intellect of the Democrat Party.

How, in just a few months, can Clint Eastwood slip from hero down to zero for the left?  They were hailing him as a genius and a hero when he narrated the GM/Obama Super Bowlcommercial extolling the benefits of having a Government Motors.

This morning the cacophony from the left is making my ears bleed as they find ways to criticize Clint Eastwoods ad lib performance…The more they criticize, the more they reveal their ignorance…Go ahead, "make my day."

But the noise on the left is also a smokescreen to hide the fact that speaker after speaker on the RNC stage last night, was a superstar of intellect and accomplishment.....Leading up to to a masterful acceptance speech by Governor Romney.

Wow i like a lot of Clint Eastwood films. But to find out that he is endorsing Romney is to me unacceptable especially from a man of Clint,s intelligence. He has swong from the left to the right all his life but this tim he really f**ked up. I hope he changes his mind before the election but i wouldnt count on it.Now im starting to think that the overt racism of his character in Gran Turino was not all down to acting.I mean i could put up with his pro gun ,pro violence all american hero persona in many of his films (mainly the Dirt Harry ones)precisely because he seemed to do do it with a knowing air of satire and subtle gentle humour most of the time. But now i see that like 99% of Americans he takes himself and the hyperbole about his country too far too seriously apparently. Most Americans and die hard reactionaries wether left or right the seems to be no room for moderation in their approach. It,s no suprise that they are currently at war with Islamic Extremists(or rather they are using each other for their own particular ends). As the spiritual maxim goes. Like attracts like.Americans and Islamic terrorists are both addicted to guns violence and idealism.Until we can eradicate both from the world we will never be safe.By that i mean the american people should remove the government responsible for twisting their view of reality by peaceful means and america and the NATO powers should close down all bases in the Middle East and Africa and start to spend money and time on educating the people of these regions in in as much as they can and also helping them to help themselves. They can start by eliminating the practice of "free trade' and adopting the one of fair trade. In this instance the term actually means what it says.A fair deal for all and not just the former colonial powers, China and America as it is at present.
It always cracks me up how Republicans always pat themselves on the back for how brilliant and amusing (Clint Eastwood??)they think they are. They actually believe their own crap which makes them very, very scary. I can only liken Mr. Eastwood's performance to the last ten years of Republican picks for the top job.....Is that the best ya got??
Since Clint only used a sledgehammer once when he credited Joe Biden to be the intellect of the dems...I'll shed light on just one of his clever acting points you idjits missed: He was mimicking your leader Obamas, speech pattern when he is off teleprompter :) and you thought he was a doddering old man, LOL! Hey did you notice the subtle dig where the teleprompter was placed in front of Obamas empty chair? Missed that too...Precious
The posters who are lampooning the author for his sensitive and factual article on Mr. Eastwood's Oscar worthy performance....Only prove the authors point: They are too stupid & blinded by their entitlement mentality to see the brilliance of the performance. Please keep posting, it is hilarious to witness the pseudo intellectual attempts to demean the article...Also use big words to bolster your arguments :)
Wow,i've never read your blog before, but you are one seriously deluded man.even the organisers of the Gop congress are doing their best to distance themselves from that disconnected ,rambling tirade against Obama.I always regarded Clint as a great actor & director but either he has lost it or he masquearaded as a Republican to sabotage the proceedings. You seem to be very much on you're own claiming a job well done on this debacle, but in a delusion everyone else is wrong. It might serve you better to concede on this particular battle & concentrate on the battle ahead & maybe point out some of the opponents faults &/or weakness'based in fact instead of lampooning on like a bitter drunk or an untreated mental patient.
This is Ed...I immediately turned on msnbc after the convention and personally witnessed al sharpton, rachel maddow and chris matthews do exactly what I wrote about. What part of that don't you understand?
No, of course Irish Central doesn't (and shouldn't) "fact check" the columnists they reprint, but as responsible voters WE'RE going to have to a LOT of it in the months before the election since if my party's Convention in Tampa proved one thing it was that we Republicans don't believe in "fact checking" this year! (Actually it's been a long term sport watching how gleefully extreme right wing politicians rewrite history with NO ethical qualms!!) In point of fact, it wasn't the LEFT who first missed the point of Mr. Eastwood's misfired performance piece: even FOX "NEWS" was reporting that the RNC people backstage AT the event were going crazy at how bizarrely "off message" it seemed to be going - even worse than their CANDIDATES insisting on repeated references to how important GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE programs had been to their parents and grandparents!!! What a fun week it was for liberals to watch.
The republicans want to take away social security payments they have made it clear before. They are with 1 percent and german bankers totally undemocratic austerity nonsense. Anti christian anti poor rhetoric.
Oh Mr. Farnan, you are always good for a chuckle. I suppose Irish Central doesn't fact check your blog. Your sweeping generalizations and false, misleading statements are in keeping with the rest of the GOP who 'won't allow fact-checking (the Truth) to dictate their campaign'. Of course even "liberal leaning Hollywood" has some conservatives. Mr. Eastwood's 'performance' was hardly ad-libbed but rehearsed, albeit poorly and bizarrely. Btw, it is interesting that most of his political positions are in direct conflict with the GOP platform, e.g. pro-choice, raising taxes on the wealthy, etc. Also, Mr. Romney, that stellar businessman who made his fortune from bankrupting companies and has secreted it to off-shore accounts, holds a law degree so he is technically a lawyer. It would have been useful if either Mr. Romney or Mr.Ryan offered any details throughout the week about what their ACTUAL plan was for our country. But instead, they simply repeated the lies blaming our President for the poor economy created by Bush administration's failed policies and further impeded by Congress. It is now fairly common knowledge that the Republicans have blocked and/or prevented any legislation that might help our country to prevent our President from being re-elected. The American people will see through this as well as the Republican disconnect with reality and America will prevail. It is fascinating how the name Bush was largely absent from this convention. You would think they would want to proclaim the grand "success" of his 8 years in office. But some things cannot be spun.
Hey DaddyMac2 I see where your coming from your going to vote Obama back in office for 4 more years because things are doing so well and you like it and it's the Bush Admin fault, right, same line as Obama is using, right. Yeah if you think things are going well and it's not Obama's fault then let me tell you your an imbecile a moron a simpleton a cretin a dope and a frecken turkey schmuck ding-dong that's you bud-boy. Your a fool and idiot. 5 trillions dollars debt increase, religious liberty under the bus, the sanctity of marriage pissed all over, and fetuses in the trash, just for starters. What do you care? Hey, let's make you President, can you spell it, can you spell sanctity, do you know what that is, do you care? Wake up man your being taken and you don't even know it. Your believing that crap that's what is really pathetic. Hey man I think your getting peaked out you better go smoke a joint and get one dem McDonald hamburgers ta help you out.
Mr Farnan, well spoken your article Clint Eastwood masterfully unmasked Obama, but the left missed the subtleties. Excellent excellent work, seriously I appreciate your take on that piece, beautifully done sir. I couldn't agree more, thank you!
I think you just proved the author's point, MacNCheese.
So pathetic. So, so pathetic. Insane old Clint chastises Obama for the Afghan war? Really? GEORGE BUSH LED AMERICA INTO AFGHANISTAN. The right wing is having a REAL hard time with the truth through this ridiculous circus sham of a convention!! Pathetic.
