California: The Canary in the Mineshaft

The miners of yore kept caged canaries to warn of dangerous gas build up as they worked below ground. The birds would chirp away while the air was good, but would fall silent & sicken if conditions became dangerous. This avian early warning system saved countless thousands of miners lives, until, I am assuming, the practice was banned by California animal rights groups.

California is the nations early warning canary and the little bird is no longer chirping away.

It has been a fact for many years: Where California goes, the rest of the nation will soon follow. In that case fellow Americans, be afraid, be very afraid.

Just listed again as the most business unfriendly state in the nation, California is also well on the road to be the most unfriendly to agriculture, once it's economic backbone.

At the behest and insistence of their core base, democrats have yielded to rabid environmentalists who have turned the state upside down. They have stuck the proverbial bayonet into the gut of Central Valley agriculture by shutting off their water. Thousands of farms (yes folks that is in the thousands) have been driven out of business because of a non native species of minnow called the delta smelt.

The once vibrant verdant central valley, is looking more like the dust bowl of the depression days. Hundreds of thousands of farm workers have no jobs and if you'll notice, food prices are rising.

To make a long story short, water was cut off/rationed to these farmers because environmentalists backed by Californias Senator Barbara Boxer (D), decided the smelt needed more water than human beings. That's right folks, in the enviro/whacko world we are governed by, humans are far down the list of what is valued anymore, especially private sector humans.

What about "save the humans" for a change?

The elephant in the living room concerning this "water shortage" is that it could have easily been averted had dams been built to harness the tremendous watersheds of California. But by design, the perennial water shortage is due to the proposed dams being sued out of existence by environmental lawsuits.

Couple the above with California's edicts on business and industry which has driven 1,000's of companies to other states- Sanctuary city policies/ illegal alien invasion costing the state billions -Politicians owned and controlled by public sector labor unions- The concentration of power into the hands of lobbyists and bureaucrats.....and you have a state spiraling down the drain on a path of fiscal insanity.

Sound familiar?

America: Call the vet, stat! Your canary is hanging upside down from its perch.

The only place that CEOs like in terms of regulations and taxes is Communist China, which they prove by creating jobs there to fatten their wallets. The only place that conservatives like is . . . wherever corporate CEOs tell them to like.
Liberals and PC bull got CA. where it is today, let the same get them out of it. Don't expect the rest of the American tax payers (obama money) to bail you out.
susanna I agree schwarnegger (mr. black/black) was a failure and liar. But what does that have to do with the water situation in Cali? BTW: He did try to reform the state but was outspent 20-1 by democrat/socialists public employee unions.
monsoonman - again, I repeat, 8 long years under Governor "the creep" Schwarzenegger. Maybe if he had 'fessed up about his "secret son" sooner, he could have concentrated on running California, and not into a ditch which he did.
You are quoting a survey that was done by CEOs and publishes on website Chief Executive.net, like any intelligent American would trust the greedy head of any corporation today! They are the problem, not the solution and most Republican politicians (Koch Bros. "boy" Wis. Gov. Scott Walker) are the grunts for the corporations. Yes, CA is in big trouble thanks to eight long greedy, corrupt years under REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR "Creepy" Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The bottom line is that the dams that were supposed to be built that would stop water shortages, were quashed by leftist lawsuits and then gov. jerry brown. I laugh when the left criticizes Sarah Palin saying she's stupid, yet applauds the genius of Weiner and Debbie Wasserman Schultz...Yes give us more of the brilliance, LOL!!!!!
Monsoonman needs to join the 21st Century and pay attention to reality. It's the GOP who crashed the economy, not the Democrats. It's the GOP that exploded the deficit, not the Democrats. It's the GOP that's helped the rich get richer on the backs of the middle class, not the Democrats. It's the GOP that's ruined California, not the Democrats. But reality has this odd way of being ignored by people who don't like what it says about them and those they follow...and I mean the likes of Fran Connor and Dompedro, too. You want to follow the GOP over the cliff like the brainless lemmings you are, go ahead...but don't try taking me with you.
Old, old argument. The reason Valley water allotments are reduced is to support California's LARGE fishing industry, i.e., the salmon need water to go inland to spawn, w/o water the fishing industry doesn't have fish to catch. It's all about keeping both economies working - the Valley and the fishermen.
the Patriot says that the world's 8th largest economy doesn't need industry or agriculture ---- probably a PhD in economics from Berkeley
Why should California be any different? All of the cities run by D's are in the same boat. Does anybody see a pattern here?
The key element of California's slip into default is of course taxes. California now has the highest tax rates in the non-socialist world. Considering property taxes, sales taxes, utility taxes, fuel taxes, regulation tithes and tributes, California has higher taxes than any and all countries except Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea. ...
jamthecat and the rest of the socialists who gave us jimmy carters failed experiment had their way with the economy before. They got to tax all of those "rich people". I remember when they were able to tax the boat industry, just like they want to do again. Floridas boat building industry turned into a depression laying off 100,000's of thousands around the country. But it spurred new boat building industries in Taiwan...Your policies dont work.
Wrong, Monsoonman, rgray222 and Ed -- the problem is an obstructionist GOP that won't let the state levy taxes on million dollar yachts and block any proposal to handle the problems of the state, short of cutting taxes and regulations, blamining Democrats for their own missteps and handing cash over to their rich buddies. Having actually LIVED in LA for 15 years, I know that. The sooner people realize the GOP doesn't give a damn about anyone who has less than 8 figures in their bank account, the sooner that vile party will implode and we can correct the problems they've caused.
Well take a hard look at the facts, the 8th largest economy in the country is sicker then the proverbial canary! Just because it is large does not insure its success. Americans are done with bailouts and if Obama attempts to bailout even one more firm let alone a state he will be toast. Get your act together California, cut spending, cut taxes, get rid of Boxer, Pelosi, extreme environmentalist and man up!
Lets see using patriots reasoning, California is doing great because it is the 8th largest economy in the world. The largest is the USA and it is 61 trillion in debt. Very good logic there patriot. Your defense of the status quo leads one to believe you are part of the problem.
