Bill O’Reilly summed up the election results yesterday:
“There are fifty percent of the voting public who want stuff. They want things. Who is going to give them things? President Obama. He knows it and ran on it. ... Twenty years ago, President Obama would have been roundly defeated by an establishment candidate like Mitt Romney.”
As I wrote in my October 21 piece, the left has capitalized on being the party of the government dependent entitlement society. This population has been mobilized to vote and has tipped the balance of power. They are immune from the effects of a bad economy the private sector is mired in. Why should they care if taxes are raised?
The national debt of 16 trillion doesn’t affect them either, future generations will be saddled with this burden. We ran out of our own money long ago and are now spending our children’s/grandchildren’s money to afford today’s entitlements.
Britain’s Prime Minster Margaret Thatcher said: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
America had an opportunity yesterday to change that direction, but failed to grasp it when an alternative for fiscal responsibility was offered by the Romney candidacy.
Many Americans will now get what they voted for: A bigger and more intrusive nanny state…paid for by someone else, until they run out of money.

@DaddyMac22- Yes, there is something worse than a sore loser---a sore winner. To the victor belongs the spoils. Good luck with the mess this country is in after the last 4 years. It will most certainly be worse after 8. Unfortunately, even those who did not vote for it have to suffer the consequences. We do, however, have the right (so far) to complain just as the Democrates did (and still do) about Bush.

there is nothing wrong with socialism, there is a lot wrong with profligacy undiciplined expenditure, handing money out without any regulation, socialism is supposed to provide a safety net for DESERVING PEOPLE,not to provide for, face lifts, liposuction for people with no self control, people who have no intention of working, transgender operations, etc etc, when its misused,AS IT IS ,AND HARD WORKING PEOPLE HAVE TO FUND IT,THEN ITS WRONG.but a caring society should never turn its back on the poor and needy.just administer it with commonsense, and not allow quangoes and super paid administers and private companies feed on it,as they are doing to destroy the british national health service..

@WehoIrish - Bravo! Great point: ''And you, who claims Irish affiliation, quoting that bloody bitch, Maggie Thatcher, the grand friend of the Irish, you ought to be ashamed!''

Oh Ed, you're just another right-wing provocateur. Americans voted to ensure no one is left behind, NOT for a nanny state. And you, who claims Irish affiliation, quoting that bloody bitch, Maggie Thatcher, the grand friend of the Irish, you ought to be ashamed!

Na. Na. You lost. Too, bad for Mittens & you. Did you know Paul Ryan left Romney as soon as Ohio was awarded to Obama. Yep Got in his Black Van with the Secret Service, drove off. Did not wait around for the concession speech by Romney, did not appear on stage with him. Guess he was scared the Nuns on a Bus would show up at his office again.

The mandate has been passed for another four years Ed. Maybe you can convince your teaparty friends in congress to at least meet the president half way to avoid a financial Armageddon. Or convince the moderate republicans to cross the floor and lift the impending financial crisis and pass a budget. The "our way or the highway" attitude of the GOP has to stop. The people have spoken.
