America Eats Peas, While Obama Dines With the Elite

Before jetting off for his ten day vacation at Mahthas Vineyard, President Obama admonished us to eat our peas. Interwoven in his message were many references of shared sacrifice. ...For us.

Most assume he meant, we will have to tighten our belts. Times are tough right now and it will take sacrifice="eat yer peas"! I lived in a house where you had to sit at the table until you finished ALL of the peas on your plate. To hear a voice of authority say "eat your peas" evokes memories of long unpleasant nights at the dinner table.

It seems every time we turn around we are getting hit with"shared sacrifice" talking points from whatever media source is within earshot. These talking points are used to drive home a point of austerity, softening us up for the hammer to come down on the benefits and entitlements that many have come to expect as Americans.

Marthas Vineyard is the playground for the wealthy elite of America. The elite that own those private jets and corporations, the very types that Obama and his allies always rail against. Yet the President seems to move comfortably among them & mingle.

So before the Washington elite start to hack away at the rest of our benefits and "entitlements" lets see them practice some shared sacrifice by eating peas along with the rest of us.

How about the President and Congress take a pay cut, eliminate their pensions and get Social Security like most of Americans. No special Cadillac health plans, but live under Obamacare like the rest of us are supposed to do.

Please Mr. President how about the next time you and the family go off on a vacation, fly together instead of separately, it will save us hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not to mention the extra green house gasses, separate jet transports spew.

Lead by example. Us pea eaters want you to sit down at the table next to us and finish everyone of those round vegetables. Then we can talk about shared sacrifice.

What a ridiculous article! There's nothing wrong with peas and I've been to Martha's Vinyard. Parts of it are decidedly shabby and hometowny. It's hardly St. Bart's now is it?

This Standard guy is right! All the talk about Obama being a fascist/socialist and stuff is mere smoke by his elite puppet masters. He really is the willing enabler of all those rich fat cats in their private planes. No wonder he says 'awe shucks' when the unselfish minions of the rich job builders resist tax changes.

its about time obama sought refuge from the re and rerepug lunatics who appear to have views that don't fit with reality. Hope they get in and then we'll get to feel pain unimaginable. Bushy's reign was a disaster he could not find his Daddy's Carlyle partner's son, Usama. He was focussed in Iraq in service to our master's interests and the oil that is now secure. Libya is another with oil and mucho gold accumulations. Gadaffi had some gall to suggest a United States for Africa - the wealth to be tapped in that region boggles minds - do wiki's on each country for clues.

Tens of millions of Americans will continue to suffer as long greedy wealthy conservatives and the tea-bagging crazies continue to fight--under the guise of deficit reduction--any or all Govt programs designed to creat new jobs. The Republican Party/Bush are the ones responsible for running up the debt (bank bailout Bush's baby) and ditching the economy--NOT the Dems, NOT Obama. Now the GOP would rather have the economy fall back into recession simply to make Obama a one-termer. So when Ed whines about shared sacrafice, remember it's the treasonous GOP that is sacraficing the economic recovery and our livelihoods for political reasons.

Mr Farnan...you should have googled "peas" before using them in this article...peas are an excellent food...you should check it out, and be enlightened about the goodness of peas....as you educate us ,we can return the favor,with a smile..so, eat some peas,if you can.....they are excellent source of lots of goodies...you will be surprised...as for our President..if you can get the congress to enact some legislation ,to allow the super rich to pay more taxes..and to cut earmarks and wasteful spending etc...let the President know ..he would love to hear from you....then you can ask him about the shared sacrifice thing...
