Cork radio listeners got the revenge they'd been waiting years for this morning when local radio presenter Neil Prendeville was forced to apologize on-air for having allegedly masturbated next to two strangers on a scheduled Aer Lingus flight.

I'm sure that there are many ex-Corkonians among the Wild Geese who frequent the blog pages of IrishCentral, so if you hadn't heard the news already you'll probably be glad you did now!

I'm not a big radio fan, but for those unfamiliar with the wonderful city that is Cork, Prendeville's infamy in Ireland's 'real capital' is known to even someone who's never heard his show before.

He's known, basically, for his biting satire of just about everyone and everything around him, is often described by irate listeners as being somewhere between obnoxious and acerbic in nature, and shamelessly promotes his own business interests on his 'current affairs'-style chat show.

96FM is also a bit hard to avoid in Cork. There are two main local radio broadcasters in the city,96FM and RedFM, so trying to avoid Neil Prendeville, or avoid someone who listens to Neil Prendeville, is verging on impossible to do, so pretty much everyone in Cork has been tainted with an opinion of the man, most of which probably are not positive!

For that reason there's a great feeling of delight in Cork about this happening, and on a very serious news day, with the non-stop talk about the registration fee, and the student march, it was welcome humour!

The incident isn't really funny in itself -- it's actually pretty disgusting, but it's just fairly hilarious the way somebody who takes himself so seriously, and is sort of disliked for that in Cork, should fall foul of things in such a bizarre and unexpected way as this.

It's a bit like the ultimate way of getting back at someone a lot of people around Cork have probably long wanted to get back at, and now they have, in a very odd fashion.

So that's the latest update from Cork. It's an odd story, but one which Corkonians and ex-Corkonians seem to be deriving an equally odd amount of pleasure and humour from!

I don't like your remark bogsidebunny about it being common human commodity in Ireland that we are all alcoholics and druggies (piss off) It won't even take a year to forget it's forgotten already. I don't feel sorry for him or anybody he was always a wanker
Sorry sirpeter, I don't feel sorry for any member of his family. He's a druggie and an alcoholic. That's a very common human commody in Ireland. And people have short memories. Next year this time it'll be long forgotten.
I feel sorry for his kids and wife. His son went to school but had to leave by 11am.He will never live this down in Cork as you can imagine,it's a mans worst nightmare, but if any guy deserves it..it's him. To much Cocaine will turn you into a monkey in a zoo.
It's funny that he was arrogant and obnoxious and that he did that - good for the Cork people to having something to laugh at in these tough times!
LOCK HIM UP!
He should have put a cork on it...and voted for Christine O'Donnell...
No....That is NOT hilarious. It is not just pathetic and creepy...It's disgusting. I have had the pleasure of flying Aer Lingus and if I had been subjected to said behavior the ungentlemanly gentleman would met with a couple of strategically aimed large glasses of icewater.
