Carl Paladino - have you read the news today?

The influential Irish American Republican group have just dropped you like plutonium. So did New York's Republican Party. You're political Kryptonite today, Carl.

You read that right. Your blatantly homophobic comments on Sunday were a bridge too far even for a group that takes no issue with the continuing ban on Irish gay groups marching in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade.

In a statement they released today they said:

"Today the Irish American Republicans issued a rejection of Carl Paladino’s homophobic comments," the statement read. "The Republican Party is a party that welcomes all people who are interested in smaller government and fiscal responsibility."

“Mr. Paladino’s hateful remarks are not representative of the vast majority of the American people or the party of Lincoln. The Irish American Republicans have consistently fought bigotry and I strongly condemn Mr. Paladino’s shameful and small-minded way of thinking,” stated Jeff Cleary, National Co-Chair.

So my question is this Carl, how come you didn't get the memo to ease off on the homo's? Huh, big guy? Were the GOP just waiting for you to be, ahem, hoisted on your own petard? They sure wasted no time getting that memo out tonight.

Why, it's almost like they were waiting for you.

But it's been a Mad Hatter's Tea Party of a year though, hasn't it? Thanks to the recession and the Koch brothers and Rupert Murdoch we're just a month away from watching tens of millions of debt-addled Americans voting for candidates who's greatest dream is of protecting the richest men in America from the indignity of paying taxes.

It's unlikely this many turkeys have voted for Thanksgiving in the history of the nation.

Thanks to the Tea Party we also have Christine O'Donnell to contemplate. A woman who's best ad pitch to date seeks to convince us she's not a witch. "I'm not a witch, I'm you," she says.

You're me, Christine? Really? Well gee that's tough, because I'm not qualified to be a United States Senator either. That's why I had the sense not to put my name on the ballot. What's your excuse?

And - in a banner year for right wing cranks - we have Rich Iott, the Tea Party supported GOP House candidate from Ohio who likes to dress up in Nazi uniforms with his buddies to reenact torching Eastern European cottages in a display of Third Reich might.

Are those re-enactments - or do-overs - Rich? I'm just asking.

If he's elected, which even pessimists like me doubt will happen,  he'll be the first candidate for Congress to wear the uniform of the division that murdered 800 U.S. prisoners of war near the end of World War Two.

Asked how he could possibly justify wearing that godforsaken uniform, Iott explained that we all need to remember the significant human loss in the war.

“It’s a tragedy that we don’t want to forget,” he said. “We can't sweep it under the rug. It did indeed happen.”

Yes, it did Rich, God help us all, it really did. But in a lesson for you and Carl and Christine may I say that you don't have to learn from history by repeating its worst chapters.

Dems seem to forget Alvin Green.
This is a good article, Cahir!
Maybe this is a good sign. The Republican party need to distance themselves from these religious homophobic racist loonies. Maybe they'll loose a lot of their voter base, but they can build again from a place of honor and sanity. Hey, who knows I might even consider voting for a party that are interested in smaller government and fiscal responsibility.
Unfortunately (for the left wing, that is), Paladino and O'Donnell may be about the ONLY victories they see on such a national level, in about three weeks...and I'm not exactly willing to just flatly write either of them off yet, either. They were doing that to O'Donnell (who if you'll recall was trailing badly in the polls) at one point, earlier...and then she won. Incidentally, I'm also happy to report that the Obama Justice Department (under Barack Obama, who also opposes homosexual 'marriage) is appealing the unelected, activist judge's forcing of the military to suspend its DADT policy. And about all that some of these leftists posting here (what, all two or three of them?) can do is hoot and holler at the biggest grassroots citizens uprising they've ever seen in their lifetimes...an uprising which is about to make Irish potato soup out of the Democrats.
Well, GOOD, Tippboy. Even though we may not agree on other issues, you're a breath of fresh air.
What were the remarks? I want the facts not your cute banter, while you assassenate a good man. New York is going bankrupt. Paladino has a plan to save the State from special interest groups, that are sucking the life out of New York. I know and agree with Paladino's remarks. It is useless to argue with a name caller. You have decide that I'm too stupid to judge for myself. No wonder Ireland is in such a sad state. Go ahead and permit Sharia Law, and the Muslims will show you what "troubles" real are.
Great story Cahir. Im so glad Paladinos and O,Donnell are almost history, for the sake of sanity in the crazy world of politics. We certainly can do without a witch in the senate and a dog as chief of staff in the NY governors office. What a bunch of nuts.
These "rich" people (corporations) long ago abandoned job creation. All they have done is move companies around to where the cheapest labor is, including out of this country. It is the owners of small businesses in each community that provide most of the jobs, now. They aren't making the kind of money that would be taxed at a distinctly higher rate. It is only the amount over $250,000 that would be subject to a rate increase. Very fair!
It's tragic and sort of hilarious how true this portrait is of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party candidates. Instead of offering something new they're offering something nuts. When you put them together in one article it's so obvious it's startling.
T.G. you are not running for political office. I would vote for a Witch or a Tea Party candidate before I would vote for a fanatical sarcastic person like you. Do us all a favor stay out of politics. Of course, this is a scary time for Liberals and Democrats. BYE, BYE.
Hay Big D, don't forget about a state treasurer who helped collapse a bank when he was chief loan officer, or Congressmen with powerful positions defending bad practices that triggered the housing collapse---oops, those are Democrats, no wonder they are overlooked by you!
Mr. O'Doherty: Just for the sake of truth in advertizing, since you think it's a good thing to heavily tax "rich" people, you must be opposed to increased private sector job creation too, because that's how it works. If you are going to heavily tax the use of capital that will create jobs, those who would do the investing just keep the money out of circulation in private non-taxed funds. Oh, and increasing the tax rates also decreases tax revenues to the government. That's a fact- unlike your undisguised pro-statist rant.
Please don't use an apostrophe to make a plural.
Hey O'Dowd, Surely , you hired this total eejit O'Doherty because he's a close relative but, enough is enough. Moronic jabber such as his will certainly hasten the end of Irish Central.
Non-Jewish progressive here: fully in favor of the Jews living in their ancient homeland. Israel is the only country in the Middle East that's democratic, progressive and developing products and services that are on thecutting edge of technology. Too bad their autocratic neighbors can't get their act together rather than using the Palestinians as a diversion from their own failure to improve the lives of their people.
