Just as her mother aims to charm America with an outdoorsy portrait of her Alaskan fairy tale life, along comes her potty mouthed daughter to harpoon the whole enterprise with a disastrous post on Facebook.
Responding to teenage critics of her mother's reality show, young Willow Palin unleashed a shocking tirade on another teen, calling him "so gay" and "such a faggot."
Whilst it's fair to say the majority of America's teens have at one time or another used the term gay as a pejorative, it's uncommon to hear the f-bomb unleashed so casually these days. Because at heart kids know it's just wrong.
The timing could not be worse for Willow's mother, who has been busy crafting a wholesome storyline that her daughter's words and actions now call into question. Before you can say gosh darn it, all those months of reality show preparation have gone up in STFU smoke.
From her comments, which are defensive and sour when they're not inarticulate, it's clear that Palin's daughter (if it actually is her) has quite a mean streak. The whole nation has just reflected on the lessons learned from a shocking spate of teenage gay (or accused of being gay) suicides. The bullies who hounded those young people to their deaths used the exact hateful taunts that Willow writes without hesitation.
"Sorry that all you guys are jealous of my families success and you guys aren't goin to go anywhere with your lives," she scoffed.
Way to stick it to those Alaskan hicks, Willow. You stay classy.
Some will claim it's unfair to hold Palin's daughter to account for her own hateful language. She's 16, they say, she's off limits. But perhaps we should care that she expresses herself so casually in such bigoted, homophobic language because of what it says about her background or her apparent lack of compassion - it certainly reflects poorly on her family life and her mother's ambitions.
If this is still some people's idea of normal high school banter they need to get out more. Most teens these days recognize hatefulness when they hear it. Willow Palin certainly didn't create the world where gay equals unequal, but like her mother, she appears to be working hard to prolong it.

She quit her job as Governor as soon as the investigations heated up, she says things that are so damned ignorant you want to laugh until you realize that millions of Americans share her views. Newsflash, wingnuts: Willow talks the way that most kids her age talk to each other. Doesn't this mean that he has not verified these are her words? Shouldn't you have the facts straight prior to writing the story?
Also, her outburst startles nation? Really?
People out of work, losing homes, drowning in debt, country at war, silly teen uses nasty words...
Oh yes, definitely, Willow Palin's words tops the list of things that have startled the USA.
Monsoonman | Nov 17, 2010, 06:15 PM EST
The favorite liberal expression to describe Tea Party members is teabaggers. Even John Stewart castigated his own ilk for constantly using the gross expression. But you hear the moral outrage because a young 16 year old girl said gay and faggot, lol what a bunch of hypocrites. I used to be gay all of the time, especially when it was cold out and I could throw a couple of faggots on the fire, but oh no, can't use those words anymore, they were hijacked. Now i have to settle for being happy and throwing some kindling on the fire.
hollabackgurl | Nov 17, 2010, 05:38 PM EST
What she should do is make an apology. A respectable person would do that at once.
seanomelbourne | Nov 17, 2010, 04:59 PM EST
Conservatives can sure justify bad behavior when it suits them.I wonder what the dinner conversations are like in the Palin household? Pretty crass I would think. A bunch of classless hicks.
RowdyTexan | Nov 17, 2010, 04:48 PM EST
ROFL! Listen to the outrage, it's hilarious. I was just called the same thing by four democrats on the White House FB page who are supposedly adults. So Willow called out some dweebs on her FB page...ooohhh the horror, the shame, she got into typical teenage vernacular. ROFL! What a bunch of twaddle in a tea cup!

Just more proof that the Palins are crass, mean spirited and nothing like the image they try to present. Underage pregnancy, drug abuse, underage drinking, filthy languge, revenge politics, vandalism, it just goes on and on from this family.
Cyber bullying is a real problem and these 2 girls need to become more aware of the deliterious effects of their cruely and crudity.
And no if Obama's daughter did it NO ONE would think it was CUTE.

hollabackgurl | Nov 17, 2010, 03:27 PM EST
I feel sorry for people like you, pacifist, who fondly imagine you're somehow superior because of your orientation (which you actually had nothing to do with). Also, you should update your soft bigotry: lesbians actually live longer and create more stable families than most heterosexuals. By the way, this article isn't insulting Willow Palin, it's showing how insulting she was herself.
pacifist | Nov 17, 2010, 02:58 PM EST
Namecalling is wrong no matter what the reason. And this young girl certainly seems to have a mouth on her. But then I have noticed on other questions. with Irish Central it's a widespread tendency. So many are intent on being insulting and abusive - perhaps as a result of underlying insecurities or maybe just pure vindictiveness. But whatcan be said of people who are practicing homosexuals? Personally I feel sorry for them that they are caught up in a lifestyle which results, in most cases, in poor physical and mental health and a reduced life span. The word " gay " had a different meaning prior to it being usurped to make acceptable a way of life which is often miserable, unhappy overall and - as I've asserted already - shorter than the average. I could never - would never encourage people to do anything detrimental to their physical or mental health.
hyattsville | Nov 17, 2010, 01:41 PM EST
Willow was just using some popular teen vernacular to a classmate of hers who was slagging off her Mother (who really deserves the slagging btw). It has become slang that most kids use, yes even gay kids. The 16 year old made a mistake by writing this on social media and has been publically judged and raked over the coals by a bunch of journalist adults for it. I feel sorry for the kid but hey am all for ANYTHING that stands in the way of her daft and dangerous mother’s cross eyed gaze at ‘White House, 2012’
LizFlady | Nov 17, 2010, 01:35 PM EST
This is rediculos and so are most of the posts. It's typical teens that drop the F bomb and i honestly doubt that there isnt a teen who hasn't said pretty much the same thing in defense of their family. If the A"annointed one" in the white house's daugter said it you'd be laughing saying isnt that cute. Grow up out there and look at issues that really mean something.
maloney | Nov 17, 2010, 01:28 PM EST
I'm pleased to see liberals think it's OK to trash children of the people they disagree with or don't like. Conservatives have to much class to sink this low. From here on the gloves are off for both sides. We'll see how much you like it when it's your children or the children of your heroes. The double standard is now a thing of the past. Let the games begin.

Way to go Cahir! It's pretty apparent from the comments posted who supports this wanna be first family of biggoted hypocrites. Same kind of people who profess to be Christians and patriots. Sure kids say the darndest things, but where are the adults in this situation admonishing them for their choice of verbage? She should have referred to them as "Ass hats". It's a term that can encompass anyone, and doesn't disparage against anyone for their sexual orientation. I use it to refer to Sarah all of the time.

I'm no fan of the Palin's, but I have to agree with wjb1tex, kids do say the darndest things on facebook. I noticed that several other responders really got upset that anyone would pick on one of St. Sarah's children. She's in the public view and so are her children. Deal with it.
hollabackgurl | Nov 17, 2010, 12:08 PM EST

I don't like her mother and her politics, but please, she's a teenager, stop looking for crap everywhere, because you can always find it. There are so many really important things being ignored, like the genocide in Darfur.
hollabackgurl | Nov 17, 2010, 10:10 AM EST
Faggot hasn't meant a "bunch of sticks" since the 16 century. Gay hasn't meant "light hearted" since 1840. I don't think you're teacher did an excellent job wnd5or6. I don't think Willow Palin's mother did an excellent job either.
wnd5or6 | Nov 17, 2010, 10:05 AM EST
If teachers started to teach things correctly one could put the true terms back to these words... gay = happy and warm and faggot = bunch of sticks... then when its stated it wouldn't be a big deal... but oh no one can't do that can they? Can't turn things around, that would hurt someones feelings, but if you call them that name, you still hurt their feelings... nice double edge sword... I love this world we have created...

DaddyMac22 | Nov 17, 2010, 10:01 AM EST
FatherVol, no, he is reporting on a newsworthy, homophobic outburst from said mothers idiotic daughter, didn't you read the article? Maybe if Palin wasn't such a media-whore, her daughter would be better able to handle the trappings of fame, and less likely to come out with completely inane comments as such.
sidhemajik | Nov 17, 2010, 09:55 AM EST

Where I have been the F bomb is a four letter word. So now the group who knows it's self to be deserving of equal treatment in all matters, no different than any other group, lowered to the level of attacking 16 yr. old female children. Ashamed it is you should be. Alaska is not like the two coasts of America. A child in Alaska could possibly go there entire life & never run across a person of the GLBT persuasion. I also find your motives suspect since it's common knowledge you hate Sarah Palin's guts. Take a look at the political map, blue on the coasts, red everywhere else. I know that angers you but look anyway. The majority of gays are on the coasts. Children say bad words all the time to each other, not really paying attention to the meaning or harm they may cause. As almost all children would do, she defended her mother from attack from another. Your conduct, being a responsible adult is to act like one. Not a trailer park whore fighting over the drug dealer in the park. And you wonder why you can't get respect. Try to act like a man instead of a little snit.

Willow is talking how every teenager talks and I have raised 5. the only problem here is the absolute hatred of her family so they make these riduculous statements to make a mountain out of a mole hill. you should all be ashamed and get on with your lives.
emal7717 | Nov 18, 2010, 12:00 AM EST
Mr. O'Doherty practices censorship. I wrote a lengthy response to his abusive blog, and had clearly he prevented it from being posted so as to show his refusal to listen to the truth...Im going back to watching Glenn Beck...more intelligent anyway

@RevJames..."Underage pregnancy, drug abuse, underage drinking, filthy languge, revenge politics, vandalism...ALL STAPLES OF THE LUNATIC LEFT. So what's your problem? Newsflash, wingnuts: Willow talks the way that most kids her age talk to each other. Maybe they should all be "nicer" to each other as a rule...but the only thing out of the ordinary here is that Willow belongs to a high-profile family that is the object of insane hatred and abuse by bitter Leftists, 24-7-365.

chicago1...only in hickless rooland & the ever so touchy glbt world of, I HATE PALIN, ANY PALIN!! The original experts of teabagging.
Chicago1 | Nov 17, 2010, 06:38 PM EST
"From her comments, which are defensive and sour when they're not inarticulate, it's clear that Palin's daughter (if it actually is her) has quite a mean streak." Doesn't this mean that he has not verified these are her words?
ROFL! What a bunch of twaddle in a tea cup!
greenferrett101 | Nov 17, 2010, 04:24 PM EST
That's mean
RevJames | Nov 17, 2010, 04:18 PM EST
Just more proof that the Palins are crass, mean spirited and nothing like the image they try to present. Underage pregnancy, drug abuse, underage drinking, filthy languge, revenge politics, vandalism, it just goes on and on from this family. Cyber bullying is a real problem and these 2 girls need to become more aware of the deliterious effects of their cruely and crudity. And no if Obama's daughter did it NO ONE would think it was CUTE.
greenferrett101 | Nov 17, 2010, 04:13 PM EST
great piece
hollabackgurl | Nov 17, 2010, 03:27 PM EST
ChrisNYC1974 | Nov 17, 2010, 01:14 PM EST

RobbCobb | Nov 17, 2010, 01:10 PM EST
Way to go Cahir! It's pretty apparent from the comments posted who supports this wanna be first family of biggoted hypocrites. Same kind of people who profess to be Christians and patriots. Sure kids say the darndest things, but where are the adults in this situation admonishing them for their choice of verbage? She should have referred to them as "Ass hats". It's a term that can encompass anyone, and doesn't disparage against anyone for their sexual orientation. I use it to refer to Sarah all of the time.

feeneycj | Nov 17, 2010, 12:44 PM EST
This is a non-story, I agree. Look, 16 year olds will say anything. Teens will use any term in any way until they mature and learn how to converse. Leave Willow alone and focus on real issues like healthcare.

I find it hard to believe that any publication lets you put your vile, biased garbage under their letterhead. Your comment "(if it really is hers)" is particularly offensive, even for a cad like yourself.
Tony Barry | Nov 17, 2010, 12:33 PM EST
You must really be desperate to even use this space for sucn childish nonsense.. regarding the unleashing of the "F_Bomb", you cannot stand on a corner in Ireland and not hear children use this vile language....grow up.
Derrylass627 | Nov 17, 2010, 12:20 PM EST
I'm no fan of the Palin's, but I have to agree with wjb1tex, kids do say the darndest things on facebook. I noticed that several other responders really got upset that anyone would pick on one of St. Sarah's children. She's in the public view and so are her children. Deal with it.
hollabackgurl | Nov 17, 2010, 12:08 PM EST
It kind of throws a spanner in the 'family values' formula. Palin reveals herself to be a trash talking bully. I wonder where on earth all that started?
irishfez | Nov 17, 2010, 12:08 PM EST
The apples don't grow far from the tree, Cahir. Those Palin kids are trash. Just like Momma Bear
wjb1tex | Nov 17, 2010, 11:58 AM EST
Startles The Nation!! Stop the presses. A teenager talks trash on Facebook. I hope you don't go on Facebook and see what teenagers are saying. It would no doubt shock your sensiteve self. I know you have to make your political points whenever you can but this?
Celtica43 | Nov 17, 2010, 11:20 AM EST

Cahir is grasping at straws. He is in the wrong line of work, he should be a gossip columinst. Does he have any teenage children?, if so he better beware. He may eat his bottom of the barrel comments yet. Get another job Cahir
rickduff | Nov 17, 2010, 10:23 AM EST
I love this world we have created...

hollabackgurl | Nov 17, 2010, 10:03 AM EST
If the nation doesn't think its news that Sarah Palin's daughter is homophobic they wouldn't be glued to this story all morning. So much for wholesome family values, you'll be told to STFU in the Palin household.
She's a kid and kids say stupid things. Go into any school in America and you'll hear similar garbage. Not saying it's right, but it certainly isn't newsworthy.
tomgallagher | Nov 17, 2010, 09:39 AM EST
"shocked the nation", you must be kidding. 90% of this nation could care less.
FatherVol | Nov 17, 2010, 09:30 AM EST
O'Doherty, aren't you just displaying your hatred for the girl's mother? Please!
johhnyb | Nov 17, 2010, 09:23 AM EST
Pretty startling. And nobody has never said anything nasty about the Palin family either.
MikeRock | Nov 17, 2010, 09:17 AM EST
Not worthy of a comment, other than it looks like Cahir is the jealous, petty, loser.
maloney | Nov 17, 2010, 09:07 AM EST
