| Big boost for Barack Obama's campaign |
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. added 114,000 jobs in September, bringing the unemployment rate down to 7.8 percent - its first time below 8 percent this year and its lowest rate since Obama took office.
Reaction at the Romney camp will run like this: 'Mr President, you said you would being unemployment below 8%! Ah, heck...'
There was further news for the administration, too: numbers for July and August were revised upward to show 86,000 more jobs were created than previously reported.
This is only poll that matters. And the president who believes in the long game is clearly winning it.

If Obama can get about ten million more people to give up looking for work, he'll get the unemployment rate down to six percent again.

I find it hard to believe that those figures are accurate. Thousands of people have given up looking for work so these people are not counted in unemployment numbers. This week it was announced that the Campbell Soup plant is closing its doors and 1,000 will be out of work. The Comcast call center is also closing down here and there goes a few more hundred jobs. In this city many of the shopping centers have vacant stores. I will believe in the recovery when I see businesses open up instead of closing down. I also want to see Help Wanted signs. Sorry Obama you can't fool me.

Having served in the marines, I'd like to know how many veterans are included among the 114,000 who recently found employmenm, and for that matter, how many of the 1½ million illegal aliens to whom Obama granted work permits are among ghe newly employed?

Peggy/Tom, it's hard for Obama to answer for 'failed policies' if his polices aren't failing. This is proof his policies are working.

If Romney was using "Tricky Dick" tactics why didn't the President reply coherently? Instead he stuttered and stammered. It's tough speaking without a teleprompter. Did Univision use "Tricky Dick" tactics? Finally he's having to answer for his failed policies.

The U6 number of 14.7% is unchanged, the 7.8 is a manipulation of the statistic for those that understand the numbers. The u6 is the actual number of unemployed, the 7.8 can be changed by lowering the participation rate which unfortunately is the case, no more people are being hired just more giving up and not participating.

Where was this info at the debate! Romney was a boor, obnoxious to name a few, plus good at Tricky Dick tactics.

That's terrific news and adds even more energy to his reelection.

How many of the unemployed dropped out of the workforce in September? It's impossible for the unemployment rate to drop with a paltry 114,000 new jobs. When those who quit looking are included the rate is over 11%. The real President was on full display Wednesday evening and he was lost without his teleprompter.
