Why? Because Donald Trump looks like the man who fired your Dad.
Match him up with Mitt Romney and it's the man who fired your Dad and the man who voted against raising the minimun wage. It's Mr. Potter and Mr. Burns for President.
The Donald gave an interview (more accurately he gave a series of tightly scripted talking points) to Fox New's Sean Hannity this week (who looked like he was trying desperately not to laugh).
In the course of his interview Trump lamented that it's getting awfully hard to be an anti-gay bigot in New York these days - but gosh darn it someone's got to tell those homos that their relationships have no value and aren't worth protecting in law.
You have to feel for Trump. It can't be easy seeing a Broadway show, getting fitted for a new suit, having one of his gaudy gold skyscrapers redecorated, ordering dinner in a high tone restaurant, attending the opera, visiting any of the major networks, walking a city block or even talking to The New York Times without some outraged gay person or one of their friends screaming at him at the top of their lungs because he dares to consider gays second class Americans.
We know that bigotry still tests well in certain states and demographics. Why else are we force fed this idiotic diet of Islamophobia and missing birth certs and gay bashing?
But my word it's gotten old. And so, incidentally, have the old white conservative dudes who cynically pander to this increasingly isolated demographic for votes.

Had to laugh at your turn of phrase, Cahir - "the man who fired your Dad and the man who voted against raising the minimum wage" - first column of yours I ever actually enjoyed reading. Yep, slim pickings with the likes of Romney or Huckabee - if that's the type of Repub candidate offered then many of us Conservatives will vote for an open Socialist (Obillion) just to spite them, rather than reward them by placing yet another RINO into the Presidency. Last time we just stayed home, THIS time maybe we vote for Obama. That's why the Karl Roves and Glen Becks hate Trump - he's not part of the Republican hierarchy, and they know he's more popular than any of the tired old Republican machine candidates they would PREFER we elect. You will note, however, that this particular "buffoon" has VERY good poll numbers, and they are rising. I'm sure you can't understand why, what with you being an Irish Socialist and all, but you should take this opportunity to learn what sort of ideas are currently foremost in the thoughts of the 52% of the American electorate who actually pay taxes, hold down jobs, keep their families together, actually BOTHER to get married, and who haven't spent their formative years in prison or sneaking across the American border. You know, the people who actually keep this Country running - not the "moochers" or the "looters", not the "gimmee something" crowd, not the Democrat "base". (Where would Union Thugs, Ex-Cons, Tax Cheats, the Perpetually Enraged Race Card Players, Hard Core Communists, Welfare Queens, Illegal Aliens, and the Dependent Classes in General be without the Democratic Party?) You'll never "understand" us - sort of like the Star Trek "opposite world" episode where the savage version of the Enterprise crew members could never successfully impersonate being the civilized crew members, but perhaps you'll learn something nonetheless.
