Obama isn't Hitler or Stalin or the Anti-Christ
By: Cahir O'Doherty | Published Saturday, May 18, 2013, 2:33 PM | Updated Saturday, May 18, 2013, 2:33 PM
In the Harry Potter alternative universe that is the acknowledged home of the floundering Tea Party, they have finally stopped comparing President Obama to the rogues gallery of lesser known tyrants.
Now they're just flat out saying he's Hitler. And Stalin. And the Anti-Christ. And other Really REALLY BAD things, you guys.
That means we can dispense with the blatant fiction that the Tea Party represents a legitimate political strand of the GOP anymore. Apparently what they really represent are arrested adolescents who express themselves as though they were still in junior high. With multiple exclamation marks, because they really really mean it!!!!!
On
the main Tea Party web page this week the following web pages appeared: 'America's in Danger: Stand and Fight,' ran the headline. 'Prevent the Next Holocaust Right Here In America.'
The next Holocaust right here in America? Excuse me? Is this is the kind of operatic rhetoric they have to employ now to fire up the increasingly disinterested retirement communities that are the Tea Party's natural base? Because this is, it must be said, a new and completely objectionable level of barking mad.
'Now, all that we hold dear as Americans could be utterly annihilated,' screamed the Tea Party web page. 'Many say, 'Oh, that can’t happen here.' Do NOT be a fool!!!!'
Again with the apostrophes.
'Time is critical. It is running out! That is why we have decided to stand up and fight with all the power we have!'
Stand and fight? What does this mean exactly? Are the Tea Party about to fire on Gettysburg?
Perhaps we should ask Matt Drudge of the 90's web relic the Drudge Report. Obama's measured response to the challenge of the Newtown school massacre gave Drudge a very nasty case of the vapors which resulted in his decision to place pictures comparing the president to - you guessed it - Hitler and Stalin on his front page.
Are we seeing a trend? The Tea Party web page concludes that conservative politicians can no longer stop 'America’s Hitler,' so who does that leave? The South Park pensioners militia assembling in the town square?
What a difference having an African American president makes. Seriously!!!!!!

Obama is an avowed socialist. Tax, spend, borrow and spread the wealth taking from those who work hard all their lives and give to those who do not work and/ or are here illegally.

falconflash, for the record I am hardly a liberal. I am and have always been a fiscal conservative. On social issues I am left of center but only by a hair. As for taxes, of the 34 OECD countries - most of those that count in our world - only three pay lower taxes than the U.S., as a percentage of GDP. In short, the U.S. is, by definition, a low tax country. As for corporate taxes, the infamous 35% rate that the GOP has decried ad nauseum is utterly meaningless as virtually no U.S. company pays that rate - in fact many U.S. companies, including some of our largest, pay no corporate taxes at all. The effective rate, the one that counts, is, on average, about 27% - also one of the lowest in the world. The Republican Party, in which I was a member for more than 20 years, was once considered the intelligent party; it is now the dunce party, mostly southern and rural, and white, angry and aging.
falconflash | Feb 21, 2013, 04:32 PM EST
Tom, if you ask the average American what they think the Tea Party stands for they would probably say "lower taxes." Only a liberal like you could object to that simple, yet magnificent goal...these stories by your kind of how they are lunatics is just fear/loathing on your part, not theirs... the mid-term elections (2014) will be a confirmation or rejection of the Obama agenda....stay tuned.

Most political scientists on both sides of the political devide agree that Obama governs as a moderate in politic-speak, not a liberal, not a socialist, not a radical, not a communist. Thoughtful people, capable of critical analysis, would agree that we've got a moderate, pragmatic president. The GOP used to have liberal and moderate wings. The liberals are dead and gone and the few remaining moderates have been bullied and intimidated into silence - or have left in disgust or defeat. So, today we have a GOP that is composed of the right, the far right and the lunatic fringe, a party of largely angry, aging white guys, blindly marching with their beloved guns at the ready into irrelevance. A recent mailing to the tea-party faithful showed Karl Rove, maker of President Bush, as 'enemy of the people,' meaning the tea-party folks - and there was poor Karl dressed as Heinrich Himmler, SS chief and author of the Final Solution. It is instructive to see the GOP eat its young and its old. It is called self-destruction.

That headline us a real endorsement!

wtf. Just remember all those guys were voted into power by the people that considered them good guys before the turned out to be bad guys. By the time their true colors were shown it was too late to reverse things, so my policy is to examine both sides then decide, I might make a bad decision but at least I look and listen to both sides.
MegK311 | Feb 20, 2013, 05:17 PM EST
How about the woman who was a volunteer worker who admits she voted 6 times for Obama during the last election. She said she would do anything to keep Obama in office. I wonder how many times this was repeated accross the country by other Obama voters. Also Fox News backs up what they report and if you watched Fox News you would know that. Fox News reports the news that that the other news media don't report because it doesn't doesn't agree with their political views. Or it would make our President look bad and we can't have that happen.
falconflash | Feb 20, 2013, 04:50 PM EST
America's Stalin? If he could be -- he would....Obama actually said he envied Communist China cause they didn't have to deal with a congress....so his game plan is to have a congress with both houses in Democrat control...and then he will roll the white middle class but good...he knows time is running out on his agenda which really was to bring in communism so he will settle for socialism. For now. He will consult the future Dems on how to go full Commie. He must be so disappointed that the Russian people have finally re-embraced Jesus as Christianity is the destroyer of communism............

The biggest laugh of the day, albeit a sad one, is from the hate-monger below who cluelessly refers to the current, twice overwhelmingly elected and exceedingly MODERATE president as a "socialist usurper." Our poor correspondent is in serious need of a dictionary - the socialist charge was old in the 1960's and the very definition of a usurper would have to be the LAST president, who served two illegitimate terms based on a short count in Florida and rigged voting machines in Ohio - but perhaps self styled "conservatives" don't believe in provable history as opposed to "revealed truth" from the creative fiction writers at Fox "News."

Cahir did not 'greatly exaggerate' MegK311 - he posted the link to the Tea Party post, written in their own words. They're nuts.
MegK311 | Feb 20, 2013, 01:36 PM EST
Cahir, you greatly exaggerate the Tea Party because they disagree with all that you believe. People should pay attention to what Obama says and then watch what he does. He tells his adoring supporters what they want to hear. Then he does exactly what he wants to do which is very different from what he told us he was going to do. I don't think he remembers what he says from one day to the next. He is a great talker and I just wish he would shut up and stop flying around the country/world. He is on a continual campaign tour promoting himself. Stop listening to his pretty speeches and pay attention to what is happening behind closed doors.

First off, this country will not turn into some socialist paradise like so many people here think. Just because people are getting healthcare support, we're now the Soviet Union? I understand that the times have people disillusioned, but there is no reason to think that the country is in dire straights of becoming a Soviet-style state. Comparing Obama to Hitler, Stalin and the anti-Christ is deplorable. Nobody seems to remember that he didn't cause the economic situation, he didn't start the wars, but so many conservatives tend to forget the lies and manipulation of the Bush years. Will someone please to explain to me this "socialist stupor" I keep hearing about?
Nicomax | Feb 20, 2013, 12:32 PM EST
I'm looking for my old web page that featured Cheney & Rumsfeld as the Rasputins to the Royal Family [the Bushes]. This cabal of neocons convinced the feckless Baby Bush that WMD were stock piled in the Iraqi sands, and only an all out war would save the white man from perdition, plus we will get their oil at a discount price. This was real stuff, not the made up crap Drudge is pushing, and certainly real enough for the families of the 4,550 dead, and 35,000 injured.
pilib04 | Feb 20, 2013, 12:02 PM EST
Ohio's superintendent of schools had a similar picture of Obama on her Facebook page. She said she was sorry IF it offended anyone and removed it.
PhlutiePhan | Feb 20, 2013, 11:15 AM EST
The problem with you reasoning is that "the horse that Mohammed rode" is not African-American. Both of his fathers were Islamic Africans and his mother, yes he really had a mother, was white. He is a radical socialist who will destroy the Republican Party and bring about Democratic one party rule. That is exactly what both Stalin and Hitler did on the road to national socialism and the destruction of capitalism. The Catholic bishops are well on board despite "lip synching" abortion criticism. The Church believes that the end result is that world Chardinian utopianism where Freud is king and Christ is dead.
mairint | Feb 20, 2013, 11:11 AM EST
As usual Cahir is out to lunch. Now that USA has a president who is so pleased with himself for paying back the pro-aborts who campaigned for him, with 3,300 U.S. citizens exterminated each day - denied their choice for life - while families are losing their livlihood and their homes and homosexuals are ecstatic with their president who just adores them so much, you should be dancing with delight Cahir. Go on, make hay and ridicule with hatred any Republicans who bemoan that the president is not an honorable statesman but does whatever he can to wreck the American way of life in favour of Marxist Socialism.
kelauggie1 | Feb 20, 2013, 11:04 AM EST
If you knew anything about history - and about the actions of the Big O - you might not be so quick to dismiss the comparisons to those tyrants. We are in dire straits, and are being led deeper by this socialist usurper. Open your eyes, and stop thinking that he is a great person. It is abundantly obvious that he has bad intentions for this formerly great country.
jamieLM | Feb 20, 2013, 11:03 AM EST
@Cahir, Why do you care about the opinions of the Tea Party whom you despise and disagree with? I would think you would only care about the opinions of those you respect. Obama is not Hitler or Stalin or a saint. He is the POTUS for the next 4 yrs. Like all presidents, he has a personal and a political side which Americans can choose to like or dislike. Look at historical books, newspapers, and political cartoons. Americans have been critical, judgmental, and verbally abusive in regard to their elected officials since Pres. Washington was elected.
wjb1tex | Feb 20, 2013, 10:38 AM EST
The Tea Party like most other organizations start out with ideals that many agree with. However eventually the extremes take over and it no longer represents the original intentions of the majority. This is true of so many organizations. The Sierra Club was once a wonderful group whose interests in nature is now just another political group. AARP once represented the interests of seniors. Now it is a money making company selling insurance. Organized Labor suffers from some of the same problems in my opinion.
patrickesq | Feb 20, 2013, 10:28 AM EST
The Tea Party is very sick and I hope their Party is over. They are fanatical, if not diabolic, with no respect for our constitutional democracy and its duly elected leaders.
FastEddy | Feb 20, 2013, 10:19 AM EST
You are right, more like Mussolini. Latest demo-fascist move: more presidential orders to grab guns while homeland "security" buys another 1.6 Billion bullets ... Here come the Brown Shirts.
slainte9 | Feb 20, 2013, 10:06 AM EST
There's a main Tea Party web page? If you folks think the Tea Party is nuts, you should read all the comments by NY Times readers who think the deranged man who shot police and their children is a hero. That was a real stunner.
CelticQueenUSA | Feb 20, 2013, 10:03 AM EST
I am sic to death of the hate, bigotry and racial slurs I have seen about this fine man who is doing his best to bring this nation together. The Tea Party is disgusting and I am disppointed in the GOP which I now call the Goofy Old Party@
TheOldPerfessor | Feb 20, 2013, 09:08 AM EST
The inhabitants of the Hateosphere could also dredge up Caligula. He was a really, really bad guy. Also Oliver Cromwell. Let's show some imagination here!
