| Atlas scrubbed, or no 'fake ' good deed goes unpublished |
I've been thinking about him off and on all week because he found himself reluctantly catapulted into the national spotlight last week by the uninvited visit of GOP Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan.
Hijack, would have been a more accurate word. In the Romney/Ryan's campaign's desperation to lull the public into forgetting that they're two pomaded multimillionaire's out to gut the New Deal to pay for unnecessary tax cuts for the super rich, they decided to 'soften' Ryan's public persona with a bit of charitable malarkey, shot live on camera.
Ryan, as we know, invited himself to wash the already clean dishes of the St. Vincent De Paul Society's soup kitchen. That took some heart - or stones, as Bill Clinton likes to say. But Mahoning County is in Ohio and there is no stone that Ryan plans to leave unturned, or photo opportunity abandoned, regardless of the cost to others, in that state.
Ryan came into the soup kitchen without permission on Monday and 'did nothing,' Antal told the press. He was not at the soup kitchen when Ryan visited and would have turned him away had he known - the bylaws of the society expressly forbid political grandstanding of that nature.
But no fake 'good deed' goes unpunished though. The Society has been hemorrhaging donations since the story broke. The losses have been big. 'It appears to be a substantial amount,' Antal said. 'You can rest assured there has been a substantial backlash.'
Antal said that the campaign had 'ramrodded their way' inside for their charity on stilts performance.
But aren't mid-westerners famously repulsed by people who make a great show of their own charity? Isn't making a great show of your charity a contradiction in terms anyhow?
Antal want Ryan to go away and to take all the damage he has done with him. It's too late for that, but not too late for an apology that will doubtless never come. Ryan has made it clear he knows what's good for the nations poor and he certainly knows what's good for himself.
But this story deserves to be told over and over because it mirrors the main weakness of the Romney campaign itself: they make shameless gestures toward the middle class to lure them into voting for them.
But before you turn around you'll find that you're strapped for cash and they haven't left you with a forwarding address or an explanation.

@Oftiz, you would know more than I, the googled article was from the Washington post which gave a different take on the above article, just get tired of the heavily anti ryan/romney headlines that are not nearly as sinister as they would have people believe.

Briano-- big surprise, googling Ryan explained it away. (By the way, I have no faith in Irish Cental's accurate reporting.) What I saw on tv was a man in a sparkling clean dry apron picking up a clean pan and rinsing it out in a clean sink. Heving been a volunteer at many events, volunteers are not authorized to allow film crews on a site, especially one such as this, where some of the people may not have wanted to be filmed. And no legitimate campaign just shows up at a site. They know they are supposed to go through channels and speak to authorized people first. Like it or not, there is a chain of command that hasto be followed.

Housing starts in September surged to their fastest pace in four years, up 15 percent over August, far exceeding the experts’ predictions. The 7.8 percent unemployment rate is the lowest in four years. Consumer confidence is at a five-year high.Whoever wins will get the credit and reap the benefit. It'll be Obama.

This whole article is a crock. I'll be unsubscribing to Irish Central. Anyone foolish enough to buy into the o'bama scam is not worthy to take up my time.
Since 96% of Ireland says they would vote for O'Bama I can only attribute your facination with the man to the fact that misery loves company..Ireland's broke, U.S. is going broke. You are welcome to him, lock, stock and barrel.

"OLovely" - I actually get my news from various sources. I read, inwardly digest, and form my own overall conclusions. I fear you, on the other hand, get your news from a one-sided source, swallow it hungrily, and regurgitate it all over the pages of Irish Central. Go easy on it man, it really makes quite a mess. Olovely, GM was "saved" if you don't count the small investors who lost big when Obama's people took over, or the thousands who worked at Pontiac, Saturn & Oldsmobile dealers. Great way to eliminate debt--just tell 'em to stuff it (I should try it with Visa & MasterCharge, LOL). Because GM bonds and stock lost value so preciptiously it helped destroy bankers' balance sheets which caused the regulators to demand injections of funds because of the write offs. So banks that had lent out money; to businesses to hire and expand had to cancel and call in those loans. Since everybody was doing it, these companies could not refi and that helped make the banks which ere not "too big to fail" collapse. So, instead of an orderly (but messy) Chapter 11 bankruptcy where people know the rules, we had Super Hero acting like he was playing a video game.

Olovely, if 10 jobs are created and 12 jobs are lost what is the gain. some will say "I created 10 jobs", some will say "12 jobs have been lost" when the reality is net jobs which would be a net loss. That's the simple explanation of Obama's first 4 years a net loss.

I don't know where you get your news from Eamonn in Dublin? Is it direct from Rupert Murdoch? Obama save General Motors and has put millions to work after the George W Bush era recession and banking collapses almost wrecked American capitalism. Romney just wants to do the same, except harder and meaner. Romney is going to lose.

"OLovely" - When you say you "can't wait for the economic boom in his second term", does that mean that it's already too late for you? You can't wait because you have already gone bust? Well, rest assured you are in good company. Obama's failure has wrecked the lives of millions. Éamonn, Dublin.

The economy is up, employment is up, house prices are rising, millions have health insurance for the first time, Osama Bin Laden is dead, Don't Ask Don't Tell is history and women must now receive equal pay with men. That's a record of achievement and I can't wait for the economic boom in his second term.

Ah shure, lads, COME ON!! Ryan wasn't even THERE. He was in Vegas for a few days break. The guy doing the washing up is a homeless man, made up to look like Ryan. They gave him $2 for an hour's work. Then those nasty Republicans beat him up for a few hours, just for fun. But ..... enter Obama (O'Batman) to the rescue. He kills all those evil rich people - with no help whatsoever from Navy SEALS, and takes all the poor in the palms of his hands and shepherds them to the rich paradise. What a MAN! Is he GOD? Yes, I think He must be GOD. (With apologies to Marvel Comics) And anyone else who is "offended" by cartoon characters. Éamonn, Dublin, Ireland.
