This morning I have a simple question: can anyone name a specific jobs bill that has been brought forward by the GOP?
I'm just asking because once upon a time in American politics if you voted against a major jobs bill it's because you had a better one of your own.
Remember those days? They're apparently gone for good.
Protecting tax cuts for millionaires and concocting even more of them isn't a jobs bill. If it was then the Bush era would have been an economic golden age instead of what it actually was - a lost decade.
So is that all the GOP has got left for us? The voodoo economics that says trickle down benefits flow from billionaire boom times? Or a scorched earth campaign against every initiative President Obama takes? Because, you know, they haven't been working.
So is that really all they've got?

The Democrats control the Senate, where the bill was defeated. So how do you figure the Republicans killed it? Because you are an idiot Cahir.

Joan1954 and tundis45, you'll no doubt be aware that the fallout from Wall Street's decade long drunken binge under GWB led to financial instability that almost destroyed Ireland's economy and forced tens of thousands to emigrate? I think they're as entitled as any (possibly even more entitled) to lament the GOP's failure to show leadership.

If IC's stated purpose is Irish and Irish American news, I question their logic because no American-Irish news from the South or Southwest is ever put in. Mostly New York and sometimes Boston but the rest of the country, no!!!

Again, an article that doesn't seem to fit into Irish Central's stated purpose of reporting on Irish and Irish American news. But...etigh1130 at 9:58AM is partly right. Ideologically driven Republicans will do everything they can to prevent economic recovery until after the election. I'm not sure everything proposed by the Democrats actually will help the economy, but it is very clear that the Republicans are opposing everything that might.

"Jobs Bill Killed by Senate Republicans"??? This is the headline I'm seeing this morning from the ObamaMediaMachine. So, let's do the math: There are 100 Senators in the Senate. Only 42 of them are Republican. It took 51 to "kill" the bill. Hmmmm....does it appear that some of Obama's own party didn't think this bill was the one that will work? (He better be trying to find a crony to buy or rent him a house: He'll be moving out of the big white house in January 2013.)

Private sector money will remain on the sidelines until BHO is gone. When the new president is sworn in, put your money back in the stock market, it's going to go through the roof! Also, more people will be hired when they find out that the new president isn't going to steal their money and give it to his cronies!

The jobs bill is a candy store for more deficits and cookies for all the Obama supporters. It's a mislabeled "Free Treats" bill. JObs for Unions ...nothing for the new kid out of college. Wake up! If you reflect obama you are nothing but a Woolworth's mirror.

A Democratic controlled Senate votes against the jobs bill and it is the Republicians who are fault. Why not blame George Bush. More stimulus will just cause the recession to last longer. Have none studied the Great Depression and the effects of FDR's government programs on lengthening the time of recovery. More worthless left wing c--- from Cahir!
