Haven't we come a long way? This week Ireland's president Mary McAleese was awarded the 2011 'most gay friendly politician in Ireland' award by GALAS (Irish Gay and Lesbian Awards).
Her acceptance speech was classic McAleese: informed, heartfelt, genuinely supportive and speaking as a president for all of the Irish people.
She will be a very tough act to follow. I hope the Irish public will keep her example in mind when they go to the polls to elect a new president on Friday.
With the support of her husband Martin, McAleese's presidential style was quietly self-effacing, so much so that it's startling to recognize how transformative it actually was.
The usual bashings by those who kiss the rear of the Roman church.
Fortunately the New president of Ireland is a liberal - progressive who most likely also will support gay people in their quest for acceptance and freedom from the roman church of absolutism, my way of the highway ideas - a characteristic of almost all tyrannies world wide

What happened to all the previous posts. Well anyway I forgot to add that when the Gay group desecrated St. Patricks Cathedral by spitting out Communion and throwing condoms on the altar, an usher had a heart attack and died.

"Her acceptance speech was classic McAleese: informed, heartfelt, genuinely supportive".....................You do know that McAleese is a trained barrister who allowed crimes against humanity and treason against the Irish People.

Great speech, heartwarming and forward-looking. I wish she could run for Pres. of the US. She's a classy lady!
