Remember how the main Republican candidates all rushed to confirm to the press that God has inspired them to run in 2012?
To hear them tell it, Almighty God had taken time out of His busy schedule to make personal visits to their upscale homes to endorse them in person.
I'm talking about you Rick Santorum, Herman Cain, Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry.
'I want you to be president of the United States,' God apparently told each of them, underlining the point that the maker of the universe supports the Republican agenda, whilst at the same time not letting on He was actually playing the field.
Well all that divine inspiration has come to naught, hasn't it? That's what He gets for His inability to pick one.
Not one of the candidates He spoke to succeeded. It's almost as if He might never have existed.
Whatever else we know about Mitt Romney, we know that he hasn't heard from God who His preferred candidate is. The truth is Romney hasn't heard from anyone that he's their preferred candidate.
So I don't think much of Romney's chances or of God's batting average. Maybe they'll want to skip H
is endorsement in 2016.

Or here is another idea: God told 'em to run, just not if they would win.

Hey, careful there esatdigiwank. You don't want to go and be becoming sexist here, ya know. I'm a holy Mo.

Lighten up Republican evangelicals. Obviously God's a joker. Look at how He stuck all those dinosaur bones in the 6 thousand year old rocks just to confuse us about that devil inspiried theory of evolution.
tundish45 | Apr 13, 2012, 10:42 AM EDT
to cetic queen usa, a fair chance you ask for the current president. let's see what he has done in 3 years, gas $4 a gallon, unemployment 8-9%, racial tensions elevated, supreme court being berated, constitution being ignored. not to mention assassination of American born terrorist, war in Afganistan continues, as well as Iraq, and prison in Cuba still there.
esatdigiwank | Apr 13, 2012, 07:22 AM EDT
ProudCanadian: so you believe in God. Does that also mean you believe in Barney the Dinosaur, that he has a ZIP code ?? :-P. So many Holy Joes contribute here..
esatdigiwank | Apr 13, 2012, 07:20 AM EDT
When asked about the likelihood of the Tea Party fielding a candidate, God refused to be drawn on this. In fact God remained resolutely s-i-l-e-n-t. lol
jamthecat | Apr 12, 2012, 10:40 PM EDT
God was never part of this cabal, so how could he have abandoned anything? He let them self-destruct in their holier-than-thou attitudes and non-stop hypocrisy. I say good on him. And anyone who says that Republicans believe in god is either ignoring reality or pimping for the devil, if not both. The hatred and bile being spewed by the GOP is insulting to the very idea of Christianity.
ProudCanadian | Apr 12, 2012, 05:35 PM EDT
MotherIrish so that makes them credible, shame on you. I believe in God and I have lots of friends who don't but that doesn't make me any better than them. That was grasping at straws. Hell George Bush was told that God told him he should start a war and bomb the hell out of Iraq. Now I don't know about your God but mine would not have told anybody to do that.
MotherIrish | Apr 12, 2012, 05:27 PM EDT
At least the Republicans believe in God. So many Democrats don't even know who God is.
ProudCanadian | Apr 12, 2012, 05:25 PM EDT
eiriamach that just goes to show what they say is true that women are smarter than men. Gracie1,DannyBoyG and luckySusan,it was a pleasure to read you posts on here. CelticQueenUSA touche to your post if the world would get together rather than, I'm better than you, it would be a much better world. Be it Republican, Demeorcrat or communist all we need (as John Lennon wrote) is love and all together now.

Not only God has abanded these creeps but everyone else should as well, after all our Lord is always right.

I think I would rather have a President that thinks God told him to run for the Office, then a President that thinks Karl Marx told him to run for the Office.
CelticQueenUSA | Apr 12, 2012, 04:27 PM EDT
I'd be leaving if the Pope was ever considered!! God has plans for us all and Romney for President is not one of them. Give our Present President a fair chance. SO MUCH COULD BR ACCOMPLISHED if our government and its politicians would WORK TOGETHER! wHAT A THOUGHT!
MegK311 | Apr 12, 2012, 04:23 PM EDT
Cahir, Didn't you have anything to write about today? I don't know what God's plans are and neither do you or may'be you know something I don't. BTW can you give me an example of where and when these presiedtial candidates actually said the words God told me to run for President. I would like dates times and where they were when they actually said it.
alisaann | Apr 12, 2012, 03:30 PM EDT
religion has NO place IN politics....we're NOT electing the POPE to run the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, we're electing the PRESIDENT....we should NOT be making laws according to the bible.....and we DON'T our elected officials SHOVING their relgious beliefs down everyone's throats. alisa neely
eiriamach | Apr 12, 2012, 02:37 PM EDT
God may have told the whole lot of GOP candidates to run, but God votes for Obama. I mean, if the GOP state legislatures haven't found a way to keep everyone who favors progress from voting!

Once again, another ridiculous article from this one tracked mind.
luckysusan | Apr 12, 2012, 12:10 PM EDT
When I scan the stories on IC, it often happens that the first one I choose to open is Cahir O'Doherty's - never disappointed me yet and this one is no exception. Thanks.
Gracie1 | Apr 12, 2012, 11:56 AM EDT
I think this article is very pointed. Men and women who base their ability to serve in any capacity on alleged discussions with God should give us pause. The fact they claimed to have the support of God and now are not even in the running says quite a bit about who those people truly are. Democrat or Republican or Martian - the issue here is recognizing twisted psyches of those who would declare God chose them and that God supports their efforts to run a nasty campaign and tell lies and make distorted comments about others. The Irish in me enjoys the irony presented here - that those who purported to have been selected by God are now not even in the picture. A shame some of the readers here seem to be too thick to comprehend that.
DannyBoyG | Apr 12, 2012, 11:51 AM EDT
Love it!! it is a liberal world boys and girls! And the world is only going to move forward...not backwards no matter how much time you waste trying!!
Corby | Apr 12, 2012, 10:57 AM EDT
Mr. O'Doherty, your article has no point. All I read is liberal sanctimony and hatred. Is there news here? Do Democratic candidates not have upscale homes? Do none believe in God? If you are going to take up internet real estate, write a story with a point. And what do you know of God's batting average....since you know nothing of God.
pilib04 | Apr 12, 2012, 10:50 AM EDT
All these Republicans told by God to run for President. Could it be God got mixed up? What ever was S(he) thinking? Perry, Bachmann, Santorum and Cain. My, oh my. Or is God a Mormon?
eiriamach | Apr 12, 2012, 10:38 AM EDT
Romney surely hasn't heard from women that "he's their preferred candidate." In recent polls reported on MSNBC, women favor Obama by 57% over Romney's 38%. Women cast most of the votes in American elections....

Did your Mum drop you as a baby?
jamieLM | Apr 11, 2012, 06:28 PM EDT
You'd be critical of anyone running against Obama, no matter what they said or did. You're hardly fair and objective since you're an Obama supporter. The truth is, there are millions of very angry, unhappy, dissatisfied Americans who don't agree with Obama's policies, or lack of (immigration), and think he's a disaster, even if he is re-elected.

Just another cheap shot from the liberals !!
