| Fox News - Monica Crowley |
The polite response to the news that someone's become engaged is to offer them your congratulations.
But if you're a Fox News pundit it's apparently just an opportunity to engage in some junior-high level hate speech.
Responding to the news that Sandra Fluke, the woman Rush Limbaugh recently called a 'slut' and a 'prostitute,' has become engaged to her boyfriend, Fox New's Monica Crowley dashed to her Twitter feed yesterday to snipe: 'To a man?'
From first painting Fluke as a nymphomaniac man-eater who wanted America to pay for her birth control, the right are now apparently insinuating she is a lesbian.
Slut, prostitute, lesbian? It's as though the leaders of conservative thought can't get beyond the catch calls and hate speech of junior high.

When challenged by the public for her blatantly homophobic tweet yesterday, Crowley denied she was insinuating that Fluke might be gay. But in what other context can her tweet be understood? Her 'To a man?' crack panders to the worst stereotypes amongst conservatives that any avowed feminist who is nobody's doormat must be a lesbian.
Meanwhile Limbaugh was on another woman-bashing tirade of his own yesterday calling the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton 'just a secretary.' The sexist implications were clear to all. You would think that at this point the leaders of Republican thought would think better of waging the war on women, but instead they continually reload.
Fluke has mopped the floor with every major conservative figure who has attempted to demagogue her. Crowley would have been wiser to keep her junior high level homophobia to herself. Her hateful tweet was beneath her. She should apologize to the nation's LGBT community.

RonaldReagan12 You wear your complete and total ignorance like a badge of honor. What do the "promiscuous tramps" in your family think of your comments.Oh, I forgot, people like you keep 'em locked in the garage, especially when you're watching Hannity.
RonaldReagan12 | Oct 02, 2012, 03:55 PM EDT
I think her comment "to a man" was appropriate and was in no way suggesting that she was a lesbian. What man would want to marry that promiscuous tramp...?
bogsidebunny | Sep 05, 2012, 08:03 AM EDT
Come on I.C. you're really, really reaching with this item. But then again Liberal media is the personification of "reaching" to smear Conservative folks.
bogsidebunny | Sep 04, 2012, 01:00 PM EDT
What the hell is wrong with Crowley's nose?!
seanomelb | Apr 30, 2012, 07:58 PM EDT
You almost brought me to tears Briano.
BrianO | Apr 30, 2012, 02:36 AM EDT
In the real world that most of us are from are not in the realm of Crowley,O'Reilly, Shultze, Or Oberman. But which of these is the least offensive?I don't know. I do not claim that calling someone a slut is humor. I do not claim that calling someone a prostitute is humor, I do not claim that calling someone a lesbian is humor, but I do claim that I am a human being, that I have the Inalienable right to life, liberty, and property, and I will defend those rights for myself, and the sluts, prostitutes, and lesbians who are my fellow citizens until all my freedoms are extinguished.
seanomelb | Apr 29, 2012, 11:41 PM EDT
Briano claims Crowley 'apologised Profusely' because she was forced to by the"Thin skinned left" Sounds like a very "thin" excuse to me.She was wrong and admitted so she plead guilty as charged.
hollabackgurl | Apr 29, 2012, 07:01 PM EDT
You claimed that this article was 'obvious in its hatred' but you never offered proof, BrianO. You claim that when conservatives call women 'sluts' 'prostitutes' or 'lesbians' it's humor. But you claim it's a grave insult when a liberal comedian does likewise. Your claims don't carry water, but you do for the GOP, BrianO.
ILoveNY | Apr 29, 2012, 05:00 PM EDT
Actually Susan, I’m an Independent and watch MSNBC and FOXNEWS. I can tell you they’re both biased with MSNBC leaning completely left and Foxnews leaning completely right. So what? I’ve always found that pepople that resort to name calling and insults during a discussion are the ones lacking in some areas…. By the way most of these studies and polls that are done are biased as well. In case you didn’t already know that..
ILoveNY | Apr 29, 2012, 04:55 PM EDT
HermitTalker has it 100% right
BrianO | Apr 29, 2012, 10:28 AM EDT
Why do you think Limbaugh is the head of the GOP? Yhe GOP or republican party is a political Party. Mr. Limbaugh is a conservative commentator, Conservative with the U.S. use of the term. You might find out that not all LGBT are liberal. I think Rush has a great sense of humor and can be quite comedic, by your logic he is absolved of any offense. Miss crowley apologized because she has been bullied by the tolerant thin skinned left who will try to ruin her. She probably also apologized because she has never before been attached to any controversy and has learned her lesson to never poke fun at a liberal icon. I am considering becoming a liberal then I can demean and insult anyone and think myself superior for doing so.
hollabackgurl | Apr 29, 2012, 09:31 AM EDT
Maher is a comedian, he's not a politician or political pundit - unlike Limbaugh, he's certainly not the head of the GOP nor does he speak for it. That's a false analogy. You're scraping the barrel. Crowley yesterday apologized for her hateful comment, but not to the LGBT community, so she still has no class.
BrianO | Apr 29, 2012, 09:07 AM EDT
Still waiting for Obama to give back the 1,000,000 dollars he was given by the c**t,b***,reta**, stating Maher, as they say money talks, and of course he not like the others.
hollabackgurl | Apr 29, 2012, 01:13 AM EDT
The kind of people who would listen to Rush Limbaugh probably believe his 'sponcers' have increased. The rest of us, not so much. MSNBC suspended Ed Shultz for his appalling comment but Limbaugh certainly didn't take a time out did he?
BrianO | Apr 28, 2012, 11:49 PM EDT
CYA, nice job, and again conservartives are not allowed to have humor.
seanomelb | Apr 28, 2012, 09:00 PM EDT
If Crowley"s comments were OK why did she twitter an unequivocal apology?
Pittsburghkid | Apr 28, 2012, 02:08 PM EDT
Rush is still on the air. Actually Rush has more listeners, and sponcers then before. Rush's fans are loyal, and share the same opinion. This site is homoerotic.
BrianO | Apr 28, 2012, 10:44 AM EDT
hollabackgurl, sorry no offense meant for mis-spell
BrianO | Apr 28, 2012, 10:25 AM EDT
hoolaback girl, I believe ed Shultz called laura Ingram a slut, but that's easy to miss due to the lack of outrage from the lame street press. And I believe it was on an actual show, not on a twitter account.
BrianO | Apr 28, 2012, 09:15 AM EDT
Fluke is an activist, which is fine we all get to state our opinions. the statements attributed to her detractors by the author are presented in a hateful bias way, but to the point miss crowley never used the words; slut, prostitute, lesbian, nymphomaniac, or hate. How did the author know that she "dashed to her twitter feed" like this is the only thing on miss crowleys mind. Let's for a minute be rational, Miss Crowleys comments in my "opinion" since I can not know, probably fell into two camps, 1 being that she truly didn't know if miss fluke was hetro, homo,or bisexual and asked a question, or 2 which I believe is the most likely scenario, she made a joke on twitter. She should know better, when you are on a conservative medium any thing the touchy left can use to rile up their forces with will be usedagainst you.The point to be taken from this is to see how the left infers the meaning of what could be a simple question, assume the worst rile up the masses. Nice job of distracting the masses from understanding which freedom they are taking over today.
eiriamach | Apr 28, 2012, 06:06 AM EDT
BrendanKearns, get some help pal! Your words look like more evidence that Wm Ryan and Richard Ryan's research, reported yesterday in the NY Times as "Homophobic? Maybe You're Gay," is right. The researchers tested subjects for their homophobia or lack of it, as well as for their same-sex and opposite-sex attraction. They conclude "homophobia can result, at least in part, from the suppression of same-sex desire." They found that homophobic people often repress their own homosexuality and "Thus our research suggests that some who oppose homosexuality do tacitly harbor same-sex attraction." The repression sets up an inner struggle that leads to behavior like your all-caps homophobic ranting below.
badolan | Apr 28, 2012, 01:12 AM EDT
No matter if you are liberal or conservative,Fox New's Monica Crowley's comment regarding Sandra Fluke's engagement can only be viewed as juvenile. Piling up on Fluke appears to be more bullying from the far right. As always, Fluke handled it professionally which only makes the righties look more ridiculous - if that is possible.
hollabackgurl | Apr 27, 2012, 07:57 PM EDT
You claim this article 'is obvious in it's hatred' BrianO, but it's notable you don't cite one example. A thing is not so because you say its so. This article, as far as I can see, laments blatant bullying without indulging in it.
seanomelb | Apr 27, 2012, 07:38 PM EDT
what's the difference between a Fox broadcaster and a catfish??? One's a bottom feeder and the other is a fish. Therefore Cowley is a bottom dweller.
BrianO | Apr 27, 2012, 07:35 PM EDT
The inverse logic of this article is precious. the author uses slurs in a print publication to complain about another medium who makes her remark off the public record on a twitter account. The remark on twitter can be interpreted in different ways depending on how it is read. It could have been read as interpreted by the writer, it could have been a real question, it could have been meant as humorous. The article on the other habd is obvious in it's hatred.
McNamara31 | Apr 27, 2012, 06:36 PM EDT
PiperMac52....”Selective outrage” you must be joking. This is not about liberals or conservatives; most informed people don't fit into those tiny boxes. This is about a news organization (News Corp) that gets in bed with political power here and in England and smears and slanders the opposition while hacking the phones of thousands along the way. Most people think that's criminal.
hollabackgurl | Apr 27, 2012, 06:00 PM EDT
I have yet to hear Lawrence O'Donnell, Ed Shultz, Keith Olberman bash gays with hateful tweets or call women sluts or prostitutes.
PiperMac52 | Apr 27, 2012, 05:53 PM EDT
Your selective outrage is glaring. Have you ever watched liberal pundits Lawrence O'Donnell, Ed Shultz, Keith Olberman...? Let's just say their is equal hyperbole to go around. Of course those attacks by liberals go unnoticed.
hollabackgurl | Apr 27, 2012, 05:14 PM EDT
Brendan Kearns I imagine that no mother would be happy to see her daughter form a 'NATTURAL' union with you. In your advanced old age you haven't even learned how to disable the caps lock. You're in no condition to talk to anyone about dysfunction.
francisquinn | Apr 27, 2012, 05:00 PM EDT
Yes it was a slight....but not as bad as Chris Matthews two days ago when he called Mitt R (When interviewing Michael Steel) the King Wizward....yet no one calls him on it....no wonder their rateings are at the bottom
eiriamach | Apr 27, 2012, 04:18 PM EDT
HA! Susan says, "only the very stupid or very ignorant watch Faux News," and NYCFiredog says that FOX News "is killing all the rest in ratings." I guess that adds up to a lot of stupid or ignorant people watching TV. Surely NYCFiredog doesn't watch FOX? Ain't no stupid, ignorant people here!
PhlutiePhan | Apr 27, 2012, 04:14 PM EDT
Hillary is not just any secretary, she is Monica Crowley's worst nightmare.
AndyJacksonian | Apr 27, 2012, 03:39 PM EDT
What is this ... the slander FOX News blog site? Monica Crawley the vast majority of the time is right on the common sense money.
hollabackgurl | Apr 27, 2012, 02:33 PM EDT
Singing competitions like American Idol have 'ratings.' News, actual news, delivered straight, should not concern itself with 'ratings.' And this woman should apologize for her hateful speech.
NYCFiredog | Apr 27, 2012, 02:28 PM EDT
And Susan24----Want to place a bet on WHICH Cable News outlet is killing all the rest in ratings? FOX beats them all combined.
NYCFiredog | Apr 27, 2012, 02:25 PM EDT
FOX New "Commentators"....hear that?? " COMMENTATORS" are Left and Right, but the NEWS is fair and balanced and non partisan. You Leftists have NPR and NBC, and CBS, and ABC etc etc, you can't take one NON Leftist news outlet. What a bunch of whining wimps.
BrianO | Apr 27, 2012, 01:21 PM EDT
Why should miss fluke be assumed she being married to a man, are you anti gay relationship? How bigoted and un feeling.
BrianO | Apr 27, 2012, 01:19 PM EDT
Nice to hear your fair and balanced reporting with no vitriol or mean spiritedness, you truly are unbiased.
McNamara31 | Apr 27, 2012, 12:10 PM EDT
When the FOX crowd is not busy smearing, slandering or cherry picking their hateful narrative, they are making dumb comments like this. Anyone with a brain realizes FOX is the “sewer” when it comes to authentic news, and all who work there are happy to make "the dirty money" it pays. Can’t wait to see how the current investigation of parent company, News Corp turns out on this side of the pond. I hope Murdoch, Ailes and all the other manipulators of the news/politics go down for once and for all.
pounder | Apr 27, 2012, 11:51 AM EDT
.....well,she is sort of mannish.
garbo55 | Apr 27, 2012, 11:24 AM EDT
Well said Hermit...
hermitTalker | Apr 27, 2012, 10:42 AM EDT
The RIGHT and LEFT both do the nasty so no one can throw stones in te wide open glass house of politics, except that the lefists have most media on their team.
susan724 | Apr 27, 2012, 10:35 AM EDT
In America, its known as Faux News and it's very well known that only the very stupid or very ignorant watch Faux News. It's like a comedy news station and no one takes it seriously unless you are dumber than a box of rocks.
eiriamach | Apr 27, 2012, 09:42 AM EDT
What else can the Right do but lash out with what they think are nasty slurs? They have no substantive arguments to make against the HHS rule mandating contraceptive coverage for women. It costs taxpayers nothing; it saves insurance companies $$ and does not require that anyone with religious objections use contraceptives. It leaves no grounds for complaint. I was happy to see that Ms Fluke never called Monica Crowley's attack false. You can't support LGBT rights while protesting "But I'm not gay!" She handled it with grace and dignity. Well done!
carollover | Apr 27, 2012, 09:40 AM EDT
Why are you surprised? This is Fox we're talking about. They deal in ugliness and nastiness 24/7
