Cindy McCain caves to pressure on DADT

Yesterday Cindy McCain apparently caved to pressure, issuing a clarification of the statements she made in support of the LGBT community in a viral ad campaign this weekend.

In the NoH8 campaign McCain had voiced her objection to the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy - a view that for the first time publicly contradicted her husband John McCain's hardline stance.

In the ad McCain is heard saying that "our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens" and "they can't serve our country openly."

But last night she suddenly took that back, tweeting the following:

"I fully support the NoH8 campaign and all it stands for and am proud to be a part of it. But I stand by my husband's stance on DADT."

Really? We are all just supposed to forget what we've just heard and seen? Did you lie today or yesterday, Cindy?

What sort of message is McCain sending to gay youth now? That if someone glowers at you long enough you should cave to discrimination and bigotry? If they pressure you long enough you should compromise your own publicly expressed beliefs?

Either way, Cindy Mccain's very public about face is as insulting as it is shocking. You can't lament the second class citizenship of gay people and support the discrimination that ensures it. You can't be a little bit for equality; you either support equality or you don't.

The gay community can't defend you from the fallout from this Cindy, because its indefensible. Which one of your faces would we be talking to anyway?

Apparently you're standing by your man, well good for you. But something Martin Luther King once said resonates in your actions: "We will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

Its really a shame Cindy didn't stick to her guns. She was right when she came out against DADT, but The Senator, no doubt recalling, as usual, his imprisonment in Hanoi, probably gave her a sadistic arm twisting until she recanted.
And to think this flip flopper could have been president and God help his poor wife.
John McCain has publicly called his wife his wife derogatory names, . He obviously has no respect for anyone including himself. I wonder what kind of physical or mental abuse Cindy endured when she got home behind closed doors?? Has anyone seen her since she made the statement?? Is she wearing dark glasses??
The McCain family unfortunately are victims of political life. I admire Mrs. McCain for speaking her mind initially. However it is public knowledge that the Senator her husband, on several occasions has called her a "c--t". Why she puts up with that is beyond me. But I'll bet money that this is a brutal man, not above physical assault and battery on anyone including his wife. So she has to live with that not us.
I lived down the street from the McCains for 25 Years! I know this dysfunctional family! John is all about John...he inhales his own ego, and can't gracefully retire at his old age, go home and for once take care of his family! His wife is pathetic...the daughter is a vulgar, snotty rich brat in Plain English... she needs to get a real job if someone will hire her and loose 50 lbs! You only see what the press allows you and ofcourse they are cordial when you meet them but, it ends there. John is a nasty man with a nasty demanding temper. Just "google" newtimes john McCain and read it all!
Cindy everything in this world is not always Black and White there are Gray areas that deserve to be looked at also and I believe thats what you were trying to say,but then when you got home Im sure you took a shelacking!!! for your honest comment.
That is a disgusting about faced action. To think I almost liked a Republican, then she turns out to be just another liar like the rest of them. Shame on you Cindy! Take a good example of Maria Shriver who stayed Democratic married to the Republician Arnold. Get some damn back bone!
As a Navy veteran, I am a big John McCain fan. It is obvious that his wife Cindy is pushing her daughter, and not John's, through the political process. In addition, she has political ambitions herself.
Cindy Macain says she "fully supports the NOH8 campaign and all it stands for and am proud to be a part of it". Then she says she stands by her husband's position of forcing gay soldiers to hide their sexual orientation. To quote Chief Sitting Bull, "Paleface speak with forked tongue".
She's an unhappy woman, just like her foul mouth, overweight daughter who will do anything for publicity. Cindy is a "Plastic Barbie Doll"....and lonely at that...perhaps this is her way to get attention from the old man she is married to! He should have retired and gone home to be with his family....
A RINO just like her husband
Cindy and John, what a couple. They deserve each other.
Men and women in the military are housed in seperate barracks. So it is perfectly logical that people who are attracted to their same sex should thoretically be housed seperately. This does not happen, Thus don't ask don't tell is very appropriate.
just like he husband...he flipped then floped then flipped again concerning the illegal immigration issue!!
hollowbutt..already knew you didn't do common sense. Please do NOT post your picture bareback.
